Hey, what's neat is this song is from the album "All the Pain Money Can Buy" in 1998...and look at the responses now. Seems to me to qualify as a CLASSIC. It is, in fact, based on a real incident, which I posted the details somewhere before. Out of Austin Texas, area. An old couple who "disappeared" and later were found in their car in a ditch. Go look it up. Fastball just got it right in their interpretation.
@ewells2420 This is about real-life happenings, but not kids. Researched this song for a school project a few years back. An old couple were heading to a family reunion, but never made it. Tony Scalzo (bassist and singer) optimistically thought they'd just run off, sick of the world around them. They turned up dead in the desert shortly after this song was written
@RedComrade I did... You can find multiple references pointing towards a real-life couple getting lost as the song's motivation... Yes, "The Way" refers to Taoism. At least, as a quote. This song is not about Taoism
I was little when this came out, I remember singing it in the car with my mom. When I found out what the song was about I got pretty bummed but I still love it and I remember all the lyrics.
About 13 years ago, my beloved mother and I went on a road trip to do some genealogical work on the family. It was an amazing trip in many ways. One of the things that stood out was my (then 68 year old) mother's immediate affection for this song. I was pleased that she liked it so much because it was also one of my favorites at the time.We talked about the lyrics and the incident that inspired them. In the intervening years, my mother has slipped away into dementia. Now this song makes me cry.
This song is a great example of a band hitting everything the right way. I love the Texan bar band guitar solo and the great look the dancing senorita gives the guy that plays it. The best thing about it is that it could have been recorded any time in the last 20 years.
this song was the song of my 90s (or the first 10 years of my life)
back then i didnt know what it was called and the depressing thing is it took me until i was 20 (today) to find out and finally hear it somewhere other than the radio
@nerycioso lol... i miss mtv too... but i love youtube a hell of alot better... here you can choose, mtv you couldnt.... even though they played videos they also played alot of crap... they even threw mainstream music into headbangers ball... .
MTV as a music network is obsolete. Stop clinging to the past! And don't act like you don't own an iPod or a smartphone and have access to music you like 24/7 now (which was pretty much the nail in the coffin for giving people a reason to no longer need to tune in to MTV).
fuck new music, fuck newer technology, fuck people changing. Where's the 90's where life was good, MTV played music, no body was texting every damn second of their wasted lives, people were relaxed, music was amazing, people were out messing around, concerts were the thing to go to, drugs and what not. I dont know about you but the 90's was the time of my life and now a days, everything changed.

I've seen this song played a few times on shows that are focused on supernatural themes and vampires come to mind from something I saw that remains lodged in the back of my consciousness. The truth of the matter is that vampires in particular are known for their sexual appeal and ambiguity. I have always loved this song and it fits in well with a faltering yet guiding light I call my projects and my life.
I was raised with this song but never knew the name. I had forgotten about it but remembered it when I heard this on the radio a few years ago. I'd been searching for it and finally found it again. :) <3
"thats my taste in men" but "i'm straight though". i think someone is confused, very confused hence the name bandAIDS. i aint hatin bro just be honest with yourself.
@esweet7 I am being honest with myself. I am a heterosexual male. There are a select few men that I would screw. Actually, that's not entirely honest... The thought of actually having sex with them still kinda disgusts me. Let's just say that if I was forced to go gay, but given a choice as to who I would screw, I would have a few men in mind. This guy would be one of them. The other two that come to mind are dead. There is one other, but only back when he was young.
The lead singer of this band is one of the few dudes I would go gay for if given the opportunity. I find him unbelievably attractive. That's my taste in men. Right there. I'm straight, though, so my taste in women is pretty much anything with a vagina.
I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT THIS SONG MAKES ME SAD... ''They'll Never get hungry
They'll never get old and gray, You can see their shadows Wandering off somewhere... They wanted the highway, They're happier there today''... SOUNDS LIKE HEAVEN...
Great song, great video, and I always loved how they sneaked a bit of 'Foolish Games' into the very beginning. :0 It's so soft and bried that a lot of people miss it.
"Anyone could see the road that they walk on is paved in gold, and it's always summer they'll never get cold, they'll never get hungry they'll never get old and gray."
this is a beautiful song even in the lyrics. The Way expresses a newborn sentiment, and a sense of freedom. The sentiment is a new awaking or dawn to a new you who is in a new place. Like if you moved away and started completely fresh in a foreign country. A light turns on as you get to redefine yourself in an invigorating, happy, and open disposition. Somehow, this artist was able to indirectly express this complex sentiment. Brilliant, wonderful!
Funny thing is this song is based off a true story where an old couple was heading either from their kids or to their kid's house and ended up getting lost/decided to travel more. Sadly they ended up driving off of a cliff and dying :(
@monkeywolf i actually heard it was about an old couple who had alzheimer's and got in their car and no one ever saw them again. "When the car broke down they started walking" "They wanted the highway. They're happier there today" "They won't make it home but they really don't care"
@reszzz Was it that they had Alzheimer's? I mainly just remember the part about them leaving their daughter or son's house or going to it and never showing up.
@monkeywolf not sure that's just what I remember hearing one time haha. I remember hearing that their kids did show up at their house looking for them. I guess it could be either scenario really depending on how you interpret the lyrics
Nah, I think they were just irresponsible. "They'll never get hungry, they'll never get old and grey. The children also woke up and couldn't find them, which likely suggest that they're still quite young, and the opening line of 'Foolish Games' is sneaked into the beginning. Still, for some reason, I can't help loving this song.
@Serena2009ification Nah it was actually based on an older couple and not a younger one. You have to remember they are going to change some of it so it makes for a good song and story lol.
Was only 8 when this song came out. Oh how I long for the cartoons and fun I had back then. All this money in the world can't buy me a time machine. :(

The lead singer of this band is one of the few dudes I would go gay for if given the opportunity. I find him unbelievably attractive. That's my taste in men. Right there. I'm straight, though, so my taste in women is pretty much anything with a vagina.

The exercise at the beginning with the weird chick is actually great for lower back pain! FYI

:0 It's so soft and bried that a lot of people miss it.

this is a beautiful song even in the lyrics.

Sadly they ended up driving off of a cliff and dying :(
monkeywolf 1 month ago
@monkeywolf i actually heard it was about an old couple who had alzheimer's and got in their car and no one ever saw them again. "When the car broke down they started walking" "They wanted the highway. They're happier there today" "They won't make it home but they really don't care"
reszzz 1 month ago
@reszzz Was it that they had Alzheimer's? I mainly just remember the part about them leaving their daughter or son's house or going to it and never showing up.

@monkeywolf not sure that's just what I remember hearing one time haha. I remember hearing that their kids did show up at their house looking for them. I guess it could be either scenario really depending on how you interpret the lyrics

@monkeywolf
Serena2009ification 1 month ago
@Serena2009ification Nah it was actually based on an older couple and not a younger one. You have to remember they are going to change some of it so it makes for a good song and story lol.
