lol! It's amusing watching people who have never seen Amish before. I used to work at a winery in "Amish country" and tourists would come in and ask me about the Amish. TRUTH - You happened to come thru the area right before the annual "MAKE-A-WISH" truck convoy. It happens every Mother's Day in Lancaster County. Not only do Amish come out but also all other secular folks as well. Make A Wish grants wishes for sick children who want to ride in big rig. Now there are hundreds of trucks that take the route carrying wish children. Sorry, guys - Amish don't stand around all day waving at trucks because they are nice. You just happened to be in town that day!

ok.so I'm from close to this area....I don't know for sure but I would guess they are out here to watch a parade that's gonna be passing by. My dad's a truck driver and when they have a truck show,they'll go out and have a parade.People stand by the side of the road to watch. That would explain why there are non-amish and clowns too :)

@stillwaterguy04 I've seen both cultures and they may dress alike but they are completely different and treat outsider very differently. Amish people have more respect for women and for non-Amish.
Some young Amish in Lebanon love to tail gate people, the speed limit here is 25 mph and they can perfectly pass you since is a double lane road, since tey are so nice i wonder where they get to be as mean as the rest of the population, they need to relax.
They are being friendly. It is also strange to see them on the side of the highway, and some of them are in middle of it too. Looks like school field trips before the end of the school. Their school ends this month instead in June, and it looks like they are having a picnic there as well. Interesting!
