Israel got those lands in 1967 from the country of JOURDAN, that had it for only 17 years before us... in 1995 when we had peace with them we offered that back and they didn't want it. As for me, I prefer to use objective sources of information.
In terms of ranking Democracy/Freedom I know of no more objective and qualified online sources than Freedom House and the Economist.
However, if you live outside the Middle East you can go to a library and check out books such as the Marie Besançon's "Good Governance Rankings" or Andrei Mellville's "Political Atlas of the World." Both excellent objective sources of rankings. : )

The article you referred to is an editorial appearing in one of the Israel's most liberal papers. Editorials, by definition, are not objective, they are opinion.
