I went to the original video by Robert Reich ... it has more dislikes than likes, and he's disabled comments. I guess he's not interested in debating his beliefs.
Free market did not fail, it could have but was never given the chance to, so we really don't know if it would work at all. The theories are sound, much more sound than what we have now, so we need to give it a shot at least to see. We know Communism and Socialism fail because we see it fail, same with so many other forms of government, and for the market we know that over regulation will give us what we have today. So let's try something new for once.
Sorry but this guy(lee doren) is totally wrong about Franklin D Rossevelt, after the great depression, the new deal developed the destroyed middle class it was keyssian economics at it best, the free market system failed and crashed and needed and stabilizer wich was good goverment spending but i agree that after the 60s the goverment stop seeing themselves as mere free market stabilizer but as a full economic motor wich lead to the stagflation crisis that was solved by milton friedman
@guanaguacoa You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I can't really debate this because there's no where to start but a history book. Go buy one.
Two points I can think of on subsidies: One is that the transcontinental railroad consisted of three projects. Two were subsidized. One wasn't, and it wasn't one that failed. The others failed.
The next thing is that if the failure of a company helps other business owners learn what not to do, and thus be more profitable and help the economy, the government would want to subsidize companies w/ the stated goal of failing.
An excessive amount of failed companies puts an economy into a recession.
Idiot. Private parks are better maintained than public parks?? Do you mean six flags? What are private parks? I was never into politics until these mouthpieces for the oligarchs (teaparty) showed up
@madmadison2002 There are a lot of parks which are open to the public that are maintained by private organizations ... and they are better than the public parks maintained by the government. That's what he's talking about. For example, the park here in Dallas where the OWS idiots were protesting ... it was a PRIVATE park open for public use.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You have completely misrepresented Robert Reich, and your arguments reveal that you are just a shill for the rich and the corporations -- typical for a right-winger. Robert Reich is my choice for Czar of the U.S. economy.
@MortimerTheClueless "Robert Reich is my choice for Czar of the U.S. Economy." Are you a parody? Thanks for convincing me I'm on the right side of this issue.
@Aeros802 Keynesian based economic schools are the most scientific and mathematically rigorous schools of economics. Most of the other substantially different schools are just full of assumptions based on unfounded assumptions and outdated psychology. I mean seriously... Compare the papers in the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics to the papers in a real journal like Econometrica.
@JamuelSLackson Like the keynesian proposed bailouts? or how about how Joseph Stiglitz advised the greek govt? or how Paul Krugman was an adviser to Enron?. Keynesian economics is garbage and has failed where ever it is tried. The notion that you can revitalize an economy by govt spending is none sense. If keynesian economic spending fails then the excuses are always the same, "well we just did not give govt more control" and "stimulus was not enough". The Austrian economist saw all this coming
@Aeros802 To be fair alchemy is slightly more scientific than keynesian economics. At least it is actually possible to turn lead into gold, you just need a super collider. Jobs based on Keynesian "theory" on the other hand... well let's just say I think voodoo has more going for it.
@intepidator I laugh at what you call pro business. Businesses aren't hiring here because Americans don't want to do their cheap labor. They are sitting on their American assets because the fed keeps interest rates low, and gives them free money which they speculate on. If you think Rick perry is going to change this system? The system that gave him political power?? All I have to say is ahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha think again bro!!
@intepidorator wow you really think BEN BERNANKE and the fed reserve cares about how much debt we have?? They've created 1.5 quadrillion dollars in debt through the derivatives market. They will NEVER raise interest rates that high. All they will do is more quantatative easing. Do some research pal. The money we will pay back on our debt annually and aggregately is at a historic low.
And your wrong on almost every point. Since interest rates are super low, there is no debt crisis. Corporations are sitting on trillions of dollars of assets from the federal reserve. That's obvious bro.
@Ukweli93 No debt crisis because interest rates are low? Are you kidding. $14 trillion dollars is a debt crisis. Even if you were right about the interest rate determining whether or not we are in a debt crisis, what happens when we accumulate $20 trillion in debt and interest rates go up to 10%, Your opinion is short sighted.
Of course corporations are sitting on their money, they are waiting on a pro-business president. If we elect Rick Perry you will see that money in the economy.
government does not compete with the private sector, it helps the private sector, quality infrastructure helps the private sector, healthy employees who arent injured at the workplace cuz the government enforces safety rules help the private sector get yer head outta yer ass howtheworldworks or change yer name to howIseetheworld
we also had a mild RECESSION after world war 2 because government cut spending, but we had to reduce spending naturally because we were spending on the war and we didnt need war supplies anymore.
interesting Henry Morgenthau, Jr. is the man to blame then for the recession of 1937 , it was him who convinced FDR we should stop spending and then boom our economic situation got worse, wikipedia that shit recession of 1937, it was because of reduced spending we had a double dip in the great depression,FDR sent a large scale spending progarm to congress and thee economy recovered, unemployment went down with world war 2 , so in effect spending got us outta the shit hole great depression
Much better than past videos, but you still have a way to go unless your plan is to hype your way in to acceptance. Saying that government regulations do a worse job than private is naive. I am not sure that you really understand what it takes to run a business.
I agree with the supply and demand problem, and I want to say that student loans are the problem, but what about small colleges that rely on tuition to fund the college? Most big colleges that have large stock and alumni funds would be fine and their prices would drop, but almost all the smaller college would eventually have to fire half their staff (not necessarily bad), and that would result in many lost jobs. (Not to mention a loss in voice in "dialectic")
Government is a fire, it can help keep you warm if it's moderated, it will burn out if you don't supply it enough (taxes), but most feared of all is when the fire blazes out and burns down everything you hold dear.
@ShinjukuHH You are like an exercise in a tedious daily workout.
How does a society with an income disparity injure the lower class more than a society where there is equal income and everyone makes the same as the lower class in the forementioned 'dispared' society?
@ShinjukuHH No. Not the inequalities in wealth. It is already given that there is inequalities in wealth..
You have given me a textbook example of correlation equals causation without covering the other variables. And how does the income disparity cause people to experience more or less mental illness? You have to explain that in your stupid formula and where is the other example with the same phenomenon? Where is there another case of income disparity with similar results?
@KingDingaLing090 That's the wrong question - one doesn't lead to another, they correlate.
But, the WHO wrot in a 2009 paper: "Rogers and Pilgrim (2003) highlight three key issues in understanding the mental health impact of socio-economic inequalities:
- social divisions - mental health problems both reflect deprivation and contribute to it"
I hope this proves my point - If you want the link to the paper, PM me :)
@ShinjukuHH I didnt pose a question. You need to prove the idea that mental illness is a result of low income disparity. And if you are going to cite a paper you need to tell me how this supports the idea that low income disparities cause mental illness.
@ShinjukuHH Neither do HIGH disparities. And you need to prove it if you think it does. I didnt ask for the paper. I said: "if you are going to cite a paper you need to tell me how this supports the idea that low income disparities cause mental illness."
Oh yeah, Doug Vogt has a good collection of evidence to prove Obama's birth certificate was forged too.
Go ahead and debunk that Lee. (your stupid subsciber Yoda (troll) can't do it). Nobody can do it. Youre a smart guy right? I though we were all stupid conspiracy theorists. You should be able to make a video debunking us. What happened to that???
@putittogether In the brave new world a conspiracy is anything the government wants it to be. I guess LEE isn't really up to the task of battling that machine.
If conservatives are too big of pussies to investigate Obama's forged birth certificate or talk about his fake social security number I am ashamed of you and I give credit to liberalism.
LIBERALS WOULD NEEEEVER let this go. EVER. That's why they are winning. They are winning because they fight for what they believe in and conservatives get slapped around like a red headed step child. If there was any doubt George Bush had a forged BC and fake SS# this issue would be front page news world WIDE.
On Social Security, OASDI ran deficits many times in the 60s & 70s (including the entire 1976-83 time frame), yet from 1950-75, SS payroll taxes increased by over 300%. It works great, so long as most people die before the gov't-mandated retirement age and we have about 20 employees per retiree. Demographics doomed SS, aside from the other myriad problems it has. If SS was run the way it was designed, I should be able to opt-out. Unfortunately, it's a legalized Ponzi scheme.
Damn Lee. Your viewers are stupid. I need a challenge. Go ahead and debate me on the Obama forged birth certicate. Or maybe the fake social security number. (you guys are also scared to talk about that).
@KingDingaLing090 Ah just as I expected no reply. Unfortunatly people often group libertarians with fools like you so please stop embarrassing us and attack obama on his policy not where you think he was born.
@666or999 I replied. I thought you were being sarcastic. Every American in the world knows Obama must be born on US soil and if his birth certificate is fake it means he likely was not. I posted more on another previous comment. Below
@666or999 I guess you don't know anything about it because you are British right? M'kay if it is fake Obama is illegally occupying the white house because he is constiutionally ineligible and he has commited a felony (high crime), both parties were derelict in their oath to uphold the constitution, and they and the media has covered it all up. So what? So this is by far the greatest scandal in American history probably world history. Everything Obama has done is illegitamate and illegal.
@KingDingaLing090 What does it matter? If Obama was forced out of the white house on this he would be replaced with someone else not so different furthermore this would make the right seem foolish and drive the general populace of america to the left making the problem worse. Even if you are right pursuing this will cause more harm than good.
@666or999 You tell me something. Why aren't you curious about this? Has the media so overwhelmed you with accusations of racism & crazyness that you are afraid to talk about it or even think about it? If you read the WND reports by Paul Irey and Mara Zebest you will see that there is no doubt that Obama forged that birth certificate. He is usurping the white house & we are living under a coupe de etat. Obama is the greatest criminal in American history. We know he has been using a fake SS# too
@KingDingaLing090 I really really doubt the law about the birthplace of the president will be enforced and I also disagree with the law in principle I don't understand why it should matter.
@666or999 You disagree with the law that the President should be born in the country where he has all the power and is the commander in cheif of the military? Why don't we just fly Vladmir Putin on over and hand him the keys to the nukes?
We have a Constitution and it is the foundation of all laws created in the US. The constitution validates and or delegitamizes every law and every Representative, law enforcement and Judge since our independence and creation over 200 years ago.
Robert Reich doesn't even have a college degree in economics.
His "area of expertise" is "social science", which is to say socialist mysticism. It's the art of duping your mark into believing your socialist agitprop is all scientific-y.
@dinex2 Except, of course, that history (and rational thought) demonstrates conclusively that the profit motive protects consumers. Businesses husband therir reputations and protect their consumers in order to retain them as customers. Look at how Johnson & Johnson reacted to the Tylenide scare (without governmnet prodding). Consider the thousands of products you use every day without thought about safety issues. THAT is the profit motive protecting you.
Most of the Departments of the government are a joke, especially the dept. of agriculture. In the past (i don't think they're still doing this) the government would pay farmers to not harvest their crops. That is the government's idea of job creation/security. CRP is a big negative too.
However, in the defense of farmers, most of the money that looks like it goes to agriculture goes to food stamps, with a smaller amount going for "conservation" practices.
Keep up the good work. you are so right on so many things. its the over bloated government that is keeping America down. to many regulations on business's oil and other producers. Unions asking for way to much driving their jobs over seas or to area's where there are no unions and they wonder why they are loosing jobs. Unions should only be there to see that a employee is treated fairly and that the safety and labor laws are upheld not scalp their employers for more money of benefits.
I really hate the idea that the government is responsible for jobs. I'm a very scared to think the government is out to take care of my life, rather than being responsible myself.
This guy Donald Right (should change is name ti Donald Wrong) wasn't paying attention to Reagan's speech when he said that gov't is not the solution, gov't is the problem. We need a MUCH smaller but efficient gov't that only provides the necessities such as securing our boarders, keeping wallstreet and big business honest and held accountable. Let there be a real free market and competition will take care of the rest.
Here's the part that makes no sense: WWII didn't get us out of the Great Depression.
Yet you acknowledge that WWII practically created full employment. We got out of the Great Depression the second we were able to compensate for the drop in demand and put people back to work.
Any restructuring of the private industry that took place after the war came AFTER the war lifted us out of the Depression. Sitting around and waiting for subtle policies to kick in wouldn't have done the trick.
@HowTheWorldWorks And Mexico has 4.5% unemployment. Why don't the Mexican nationals go back? Because they can suck off us forever.
Hey when are you going to have the nards to talk about the Obama birth certifigate? The small things need to be done but come on. Say something you can't ignore it forever. Eventually you will have to face it. You know this is a story. (message me if I'm wrong and I will link some sh..) The very fact that it is a story is a story. And the facts? Secrets?? Crimes?
@KingDingaLing090 Can you prove is, or are you just going to cite some moonbat's video "proving" that Obama's birth certificate was a fake. How do you know any "real" certificate they compare it to isn't doctored or a fake?
@MerlinYoda Yes I can. Go read a few of the dozens of WND articles with 20 experts that have found dozens of red flags. We know it is fake and we are past that point. Now we are going after the origianl document.
@KingDingaLing090 ya because WND (assuming you mean WorldNetDaily) is the most credible of sites and would *never* exaggerate details of a story (or blatantly omit them) a story to make money off page hits and ad revenues to be gobbled up by consipracy theorists and those that have to link to them to prove factually how they are not accurately representing the topic at hand. Just look at the article about Libya's Draft Constitutional Charter, it totally overlooks key articles.
@MerlinYoda Why would I look at something that is totally different than the issue we are talking about?
Right because if you can't attack the facts attack the messenger. What a coward. Why are you on a conservative channel? Why don't you go sign up for the next Code Pink meeting and stay away form the big boys Junior?
Or debunk something they said about the forged birth certificate. lol (won't happen and you don't even want to know about it because you are scared of the truth).
@KingDingaLing090 You accuse me of attacking the messenger yet use ad hominem attacks in your *own* reply?.. nice. You might want to cover up, your hypocrisy is showing. The Libya article is an example of the quality of stuff they link to (... some of it worse than even the MSM...). Maybe *you* should crawl out of your conspiracy theorist comfort zone and read/analyze some differing points of view. BTW, I'm a *libertarian* like Lee. Don't group me in Code Pink (or other progressive nut jobs).
@MerlinYoda My message is based on the facts and yours is based on decrediting the website that posted facts. And calling you a faggot or whatever the hell you are is beside the point but you made that your salient point.... because well... I don't KNOW what is wrong with you. Faggot.
Let me know when you can debunk the facts. Mkay you slimy weaselly fuck?
@KingDingaLing090 I guess it's my own fault for then, Mr. conspiracy theorist troll. I'm *so* sorry I'm not as knowledgeable as you on how Obama's birth certificate is a fake and am not out leading the charge to get the "real" one released. Of course for all those "facts" out there you'd think we could figure out where his "real" birth certificate is so that we can expose him for the Kenyan Socialist Muslim he really is!!!
(btw, I was being sarcastic there ... except about the "mr. troll" bit)
@MerlinYoda Why are you still talking? Let me know when you can debunk Mara Zebest and Paul Irey's analasis that Obama's birth certificate was forged.
If it was forged you'd have PLENTY of reputable people coming out telling you it was forged, not just a few conspiracy theorists. There were a lot of republicans who were studying that document making sure it was real. Anyways, Obama was elected, I think it's time to move on. I'm not saying its not possible, anythings possible, and unless I was there to see him emerge I'd remain skeptical, but lets face it, it's a dead argument.
@Smullet90 There are plenty of reputable people out telling me it was forged. You label them conspiracy theorists because they pointed out errors in the forged document. Yet you do not, can not and will not debunk their points. Nobody decided it was real. No network ever said it was real but Fox and the guy they used to say it was real came out later and said Fox lied. You are just too big of a coward to say anything about it because you've been coraled like a sheep. Baaaa you fucking stooge.
I'm not going to waste time debunking a bunch of guys on internet blogs. I could find plenty of idiots with a simple google search. Please send me a few of your reputable sources and I will address them.
So a guy went on Fox, said it was real, and then said "Fox lied?" That sounds pretty... interesting. Because that means that guy lied at LEAST once to everybody. Maybe he just wants money?
@Smullet90 Then why are you even talking? Don't speak out of pure ignorance. Get the fuck away. lol Useless piece of trash.
Paul Irey, Mara Zebest.
Fox said the guy said the birth certificate was real and then the guy came out later and said he never said that. Why do you even try to talk about stuff you don't know anything about? Ignorant people should read. Go go do some homework Junior. I gave you two assignments.
You and them ARE conspiracy theorists, by definition, and I have read many articles on the birth certificate, I'm not speaking w/out any prior knowledge of the debate.
As far as me being ignorant because I've never heard of your reputable and highly well-known sources, that's just a silly argument. You're clearly a very irritable, reactionary fellow, but I'll humor you and look at your sources. Please carry any further discussion into private messages.
@HyrbidHermit War did not end the depression, most were employed by the military yet, there was rationing of eggs, milk and pretty much anything else people needed to survive, you could have the government pay a million people to dig a ditch and a million others to fill it back in, you'd have 0% unemployment and nothing to eat. The great depression ended when all of FDR's new deal items were revoked except Social Security, taxes came down, and the economy was released from a stranglehold
@jkessler410 Perhaps unemployment is a bad way to look at it. The definition of a depression is a when there's a downturn in the business cycle for an extended amount of time - unemployment is the consequence of but not the defining factor of a depression. So by definition, we were out of Depression during WWII because the government was able to use deficit spending to buy and increase the demand for war materials and other expenses associated with war which increased aggregate demand.
@HyrbidHermit "Here's the part that makes no sense: WWII didn't get us out of the Great Depression" I agree that WWII help get us out of FDR's extension of the depression. There's nothing like killing off huge portions of the unemployed to get their numbers down and open up positions for others.
But the fact that the tax revenues increased after FDR's programs were cut is evidence that gov't held the economy back. Just as in the 20s a cut in gov't spurred the economy.
BEST Republican in the world. I love having a democratic view and often hate the right wing agenda. But your all together good and argue so well. Keep up the good work.
This idea that government spending is crowding out private investment is divorced from reality. Corporations and businesses aren't spending, they are sitting on something like 2.5 trillion in capital.
That is the whole idea behind counter-cyclical fiscal policy. When the economy falls into a recession and business stops spending the government needs to spend to slowdown and stop the recession. Only when the economy picks up does the government need to get out of the way by cutting spending.
@Lonesharck "This idea that government spending is crowding out private investment is divorced from reality. Corporations and businesses aren't spending, they are sitting on something like 2.5 trillion in capital." So? God forbid businesses save money. That's just terrible, and somehow implies that government spending isn't "crowding out private investment".
@HowTheWorldWorks, I will give you this, that video from Reich is pretty gawd awful. I just can't agree with your conclusions. You place more faith in corporations than their reputation has warranted.
@vincentaxelrod I'm sorry but the character limitations of YouTube's comments page does not facilitate an adequate reply to this broad of a question. The short answer is "quite a lot of them, even more than I have time to count because like most of you I have a life and all the attendant grown up responsibilities." If you would like an earnest answer to that question feel free to contact me privately and we can continue this discussion.
i hate unemployment benefits. seriously, if about a hundred kids in MY HIGH SCHOOL have jobs, why cant the hundreds of unemployed in my town get those? people need to put their ego aside and realize that they arent going to get a dream job right when they get fired. work at mcdonalds, even if you are underemployed there. if the government cut those benefits so people would get an equivalent to 10 cents below minimum wage, it would drop to 3% in a day.
@nickmax123 problem comes down weighing your options. single man loses his job as a manager takes a job as a dish washer so now he has lower pay and has to work his way back up. no prob. same man has 2 kids a wife and car payment, house loan and medical bills. if he takes the job as a dish washer he cant accept state aid for food and medical and his pay wont cover his house or his car. in the end if given a choice of working a shitty job and losing everything or taking state handouts it obvious
@nickmax123 You do realize that to collect unemployment benefits you need to demonstrate that you have been actively looking for a job and you can't turn down jobs or you will be disqualified for benefits. You don't just show up at the Unemployment Office and they give you a check every week.
Are you also one of those people that doesn't understand how initially unemployment goes up when the economy adds jobs? I'll be happy to explain that too.
@SRT480 I have news for you; If the government was so corrupt they would let those so called to big to fails; Fail. Our government is so beholden to these companies because of money that they have to do what they say. look at all the BS with the unions in Obama's pocket. They were given an out of Obama care as soon as it was written. They were invited in to help write it. The goal should be to keep them separate just like they do religion
@ABGrhino i guess i am confused your saying our government isnt corrupt but in the next sentence you say they are dependent on the corporattions money is that right or am i reading it wrong?
@ABGrhino It's news that the gov't is corrupt? Wow, what rock have you been hiding under? I don't understand why ppl always assume that anything short of absolute undisputed blind faith in corps to "do the right thing" translates into blind faith in the gov't for the same. This is not an either/or proposition, it's not as if I have any more faith in my gov't to get it right. But if you genuinely believe a corp will truly self police for the greater good, then *I* have news for *you*. Look around
@ABGrhino semantics. I was simply saying that government is way corrupt. and I am not giving an out to business but if it wasn't enabled by the government they would not be in the position to give money to the political machine and expect something in return. Hell Obama was casting dispersions about the US Chamber of commerce and where they got their money yet in his own closet he received donations from the middle east. Someone screwed up and reported it.
Sadly, arguing about cuts (austerity measures) or government spending and raising taxes is a distraction. Austerity and trying to pay off the national debt is just reducing the money supply, since all money is debt. More stimulus does not help either, because the money is borrowed with interest. So the discussion is just a political distraction. The real solution would be to reform the monetary system.
Why is it that every time liberal progressives claim to have a new idea it turns out to be a revival of the new deal? Let's bring back the CCC (which was based in equal parts on the squadistri and the sturmabteiling). Let's revive the new deal (which cut GDP and raised unemployment). It's annoying as hell.
All the arguments I heard were actually better solved by smarter government spending not getting rid of that government spending.I don't think anyone want s more government spending just for the sake of government spending.
Ex: Unemployment - As long as businesses aren't hiring (i.e. ~5people/1job) we should provide unemployment benefits. We can't just set an arbitrary deadline. If there are no jobs for them to take what do we expect of them?
I dont understand why we are cutting beneficial programs and could so easily raise revenue. No can argue that oil company need their hundreds of billions of subsidies and there can be no argument over closing tax loopholes. Also I dont know if people know this but the stimulus and healthcare reform bill slowed job loss and cut the deficit.
The original video portrayed the right as a bunch of idiots who don't know what they're talking about. They must not have seen any of Lee's videos -_-'
The Democrats love depressions, they think they will be able to take advantage to baloon the Federal gov't again. The terrible thing is that we are in the twilight of socialism. In the end, socialism was nothing more then politicians bribing people to vote for them. Eventually they naturally wound up like Byalestok & Bloom in the "Producers" They've promised a 100% share to everybody, now everyone wants to collect.
Look at the comments from Lee's video, and look at the comments from Cenk's videos. Here, people are at least respectful, on Cenk's videos, people are swearing, cursing, and saying horrible things towards politicians
I cant agree with you on self regulation Lee, Any time you have a motive to make money their will be corruption. i am not saying a company like Legos is going be corrupt i am saying employees in that company can be corrupt and their needs to be agencies that provide oversight. because once these people are high enough on the corporate ladder then their is no chance of them being weeded out by the company and self regulatiing
@SRT480 Question: Your saying men are greedy and need oversight. what makes you think the men giving oversight are less greedy than the men they are overseeing? This is one of the things i dont get about communism; men are greedy, therefore we need men to rule the men?
@QCprepper you are absoulute correct. i live in the philippines and the most corrupt people are the police agencies, the people hired to fight against exactly what they themselves are doing. As for communism in my opinion that is why it failed, greed. but if you have a better plan i would love to hear it, no one i know can self regulate their lives let alone other peoples money so i am at a loss on how the situation can get better.
@SRT480 The proven way to make money is to create long-lasting brand loyalty and make your customers happy via trust and good products. The profit motive works.
@HowTheWorldWorks i can understand that as that is how i shop, but what i am concerned about is companies dumping chemicals, using slave labor and other unethical practices. the part that gets me is that people state well they will lose business. but who will? so many companies are subsidiaries or change their names. Check the lables and be informed...yeah i work 14 hours a day when you count commute i bearly have time with family and sleep to be that informed. Loved your debate with TYT.
@SRT480 If your concerned about buying a product made by people who worked for low wages, then dont buy the product if your that concerned about it.
A company is not going to put poisonous chemicals in their products for the fear of being sued. You can get millions from lawsuits, they dont want to deal with it.
Your definition of unethical differs from person to person. Its arbitrary, therefore its meaningless.
If you dont like your job for w/e reason, get a diff one
@superlucci that sounds great, but how do you know? companies dont have to specify on labels that they a subsidary of the company you are boycotting. if you think companies arent going to produce poisonous or dangerous materials then you dont realize a majority of what we buy is a either treated with or is made with dangerous chemicals. plastics, tires, electroncis are not naturally occuring materials, and it takes alot of processing in order to get them. Wow unethical is meaningless?
@SRT480 Then the onus is on you to look up this information, not for them to always provide you with all the information in the world.
Once again, if you think companies are going to want to be sued milions of dollars for each person who gets poisoned due to something, you are totally wrong.
Also, just because something may have some sort of chemical, it doesnt mean its harmful unless it has the necessary quantity to be bad.
Unethical is a subjective term, therefore its meaningless
@superlucci sounds like denial to me. do you have a chemisty degree? are you a practicing physician? im not and i know that when you mix alot of different chemicals together we dont always know what can happen. I have a Hazmat and HSE background and professionals dont always knwo what will happen because our world is ever expanding and changing. we still have diseases we cant cure and problems we cant solve what makes you think a company is in some way shape or form all knowing? good luck man
To Mr. Reich, courtesy of EconStories:
Jobs are a means, not an end in themselves.
People work to live better, to put food on the shelves.
Real growth means production of what people demand.
That's entrepreneurship, not your central plan.

@madmadison2002 There are a lot of parks which are open to the public that are maintained by private organizations ... and they are better than the public parks maintained by the government. That's what he's talking about. For example, the park here in Dallas where the OWS idiots were protesting ... it was a PRIVATE park open for public use.

Anyone whom is a Keynesian has ABSOLUTELY no right to label themselves an "Economist". It's like labeling an alchemist as a legitimate chemist.
Aeros802 5 months ago 2
@Aeros802 Keynesian based economic schools are the most scientific and mathematically rigorous schools of economics. Most of the other substantially different schools are just full of assumptions based on unfounded assumptions and outdated psychology. I mean seriously... Compare the papers in the Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics to the papers in a real journal like Econometrica.
JamuelSLackson 5 months ago
@JamuelSLackson Like the keynesian proposed bailouts? or how about how Joseph Stiglitz advised the greek govt? or how Paul Krugman was an adviser to Enron?. Keynesian economics is garbage and has failed where ever it is tried. The notion that you can revitalize an economy by govt spending is none sense. If keynesian economic spending fails then the excuses are always the same, "well we just did not give govt more control" and "stimulus was not enough". The Austrian economist saw all this coming
Aeros802 5 months ago

Ukweli93 5 months ago
@intepidorator wow you really think BEN BERNANKE and the fed reserve cares about how much debt we have?? They've created 1.5 quadrillion dollars in debt through the derivatives market. They will NEVER raise interest rates that high. All they will do is more quantatative easing. Do some research pal. The money we will pay back on our debt annually and aggregately is at a historic low.
Ukweli93 5 months ago
And your wrong on almost every point. Since interest rates are super low, there is no debt crisis. Corporations are sitting on trillions of dollars of assets from the federal reserve. That's obvious bro.

hes stupid ukweli he bought into conservative propaganda which unfortunately ruins his ability to think critically and use common sense.
samtotheg 6 months ago
@Ukweli93 No debt crisis because interest rates are low? Are you kidding. $14 trillion dollars is a debt crisis. Even if you were right about the interest rate determining whether or not we are in a debt crisis, what happens when we accumulate $20 trillion in debt and interest rates go up to 10%, Your opinion is short sighted.
Of course corporations are sitting on their money, they are waiting on a pro-business president. If we elect Rick Perry you will see that money in the economy.

"Student Loans are the problem"
I agree with the supply and demand problem, and I want to say that student loans are the problem, but what about small colleges that rely on tuition to fund the college? Most big colleges that have large stock and alumni funds would be fine and their prices would drop, but almost all the smaller college would eventually have to fire half their staff (not necessarily bad), and that would result in many lost jobs. (Not to mention a loss in voice in "dialectic")
insidetrip101 6 months ago
Government is a fire, it can help keep you warm if it's moderated, it will burn out if you don't supply it enough (taxes), but most feared of all is when the fire blazes out and burns down everything you hold dear.
ThatHaloGuy117 6 months ago
The biggest problem - jobs aside - is the fact that income disparity and and all the accumulated wealth is off the scale.
Thomas Jefferson was talking about it in 1786 when it came to "property barons"
Nouriel Roubini is now talking about it.
The United States don't rank 64th in income inequality for no reason. There is too much wealth at the top for society to function properly.
ShinjukuHH 6 months ago
@ShinjukuHH You are like an exercise in a tedious daily workout.
How does a society with an income disparity injure the lower class more than a society where there is equal income and everyone makes the same as the lower class in the forementioned 'dispared' society?
'fuckin durrr'
No seriously try to answer me.
KingDingaLing090 6 months ago
@KingDingaLing090
How to measure inequalities in wealth? ->Gini coefficient.
It's considerably higher for the US than for Germany.
Unequal societies are harsher; they imprison a higher proportion of people.
People in more equal societies are far less likely to experience mental illness.
Homicide rates are lower and children experience less violence in more equal societies.
Children do better at school in more equal societies.
For further reading: Just google "equalitytrust"
ShinjukuHH 6 months ago
@ShinjukuHH No. Not the inequalities in wealth. It is already given that there is inequalities in wealth..
You have given me a textbook example of correlation equals causation without covering the other variables. And how does the income disparity cause people to experience more or less mental illness? You have to explain that in your stupid formula and where is the other example with the same phenomenon? Where is there another case of income disparity with similar results?
KingDingaLing090 6 months ago
@KingDingaLing090
Those are not my personal findings, they were found by Richard Wilkinson who made numerous scientific publications in reputable journals.
If you WOULD read the data and findings that prove my earlier statements, you would agree with me by now.
I highly recommend you reading his book: The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better

@ShinjukuHH Prove that income disparities lead to mental illness or shut the fuck up.
KingDingaLing090 6 months ago
@KingDingaLing090 That's the wrong question - one doesn't lead to another, they correlate.
But, the WHO wrot in a 2009 paper: "Rogers and Pilgrim (2003) highlight three key issues in understanding the mental health impact of socio-economic inequalities:
- social divisions - mental health problems both reflect deprivation and contribute to it"
I hope this proves my point - If you want the link to the paper, PM me :)
ShinjukuHH 6 months ago
@ShinjukuHH I didnt pose a question. You need to prove the idea that mental illness is a result of low income disparity. And if you are going to cite a paper you need to tell me how this supports the idea that low income disparities cause mental illness.
KingDingaLing090 6 months ago
@KingDingaLing090 Sorry, but LOW disparities among incomes don't correlate with the occurance of mental illnesses.
I thought you had a question - There was a question mark at the end of your last sentence :)
PS: I sent you the link to the paper via PM
ShinjukuHH 6 months ago

On Social Security, OASDI ran deficits many times in the 60s & 70s (including the entire 1976-83 time frame), yet from 1950-75, SS payroll taxes increased by over 300%. It works great, so long as most people die before the gov't-mandated retirement age and we have about 20 employees per retiree. Demographics doomed SS, aside from the other myriad problems it has. If SS was run the way it was designed, I should be able to opt-out. Unfortunately, it's a legalized Ponzi scheme.

The great depression ended when all of FDR's new deal items were revoked except Social Security, taxes came down, and the economy was released from a stranglehold
jkessler410 6 months ago
@jkessler410 Perhaps unemployment is a bad way to look at it. The definition of a depression is a when there's a downturn in the business cycle for an extended amount of time - unemployment is the consequence of but not the defining factor of a depression. So by definition, we were out of Depression during WWII because the government was able to use deficit spending to buy and increase the demand for war materials and other expenses associated with war which increased aggregate demand.
.
HyrbidHermit 6 months ago
@HyrbidHermit "Here's the part that makes no sense: WWII didn't get us out of the Great Depression" I agree that WWII help get us out of FDR's extension of the depression. There's nothing like killing off huge portions of the unemployed to get their numbers down and open up positions for others.
But the fact that the tax revenues increased after FDR's programs were cut is evidence that gov't held the economy back. Just as in the 20s a cut in gov't spurred the economy.

@vincentaxelrod I'm sorry but the character limitations of YouTube's comments page does not facilitate an adequate reply to this broad of a question. The short answer is "quite a lot of them, even more than I have time to count because like most of you I have a life and all the attendant grown up responsibilities." If you would like an earnest answer to that question feel free to contact me privately and we can continue this discussion.

i hate unemployment benefits. seriously, if about a hundred kids in MY HIGH SCHOOL have jobs, why cant the hundreds of unemployed in my town get those? people need to put their ego aside and realize that they arent going to get a dream job right when they get fired. work at mcdonalds, even if you are underemployed there. if the government cut those benefits so people would get an equivalent to 10 cents below minimum wage, it would drop to 3% in a day.
nickmax123 6 months ago
@nickmax123 problem comes down weighing your options. single man loses his job as a manager takes a job as a dish washer so now he has lower pay and has to work his way back up. no prob. same man has 2 kids a wife and car payment, house loan and medical bills. if he takes the job as a dish washer he cant accept state aid for food and medical and his pay wont cover his house or his car. in the end if given a choice of working a shitty job and losing everything or taking state handouts it obvious
SRT480 6 months ago

ABGrhino 6 months ago
@ABGrhino i guess i am confused your saying our government isnt corrupt but in the next sentence you say they are dependent on the corporattions money is that right or am i reading it wrong?
SRT480 6 months ago
@ABGrhino It's news that the gov't is corrupt? Wow, what rock have you been hiding under? I don't understand why ppl always assume that anything short of absolute undisputed blind faith in corps to "do the right thing" translates into blind faith in the gov't for the same. This is not an either/or proposition, it's not as if I have any more faith in my gov't to get it right. But if you genuinely believe a corp will truly self police for the greater good, then *I* have news for *you*. Look around
hmjuleska 6 months ago

I just wanted the video too. Holy fuck. That's the most egotistical video I've ever seen.

Is the other guy just a still image or did they actually film a segment where he says nothing while the other guy monologues?
I wanted to hear from that guy, equal time anybody?
Actually he should have just asserted the exact opposite and provide no rationale, just like this pseudo-intellectual and call it a draw.

Why is it that every time liberal progressives claim to have a new idea it turns out to be a revival of the new deal? Let's bring back the CCC (which was based in equal parts on the squadistri and the sturmabteiling). Let's revive the new deal (which cut GDP and raised unemployment). It's annoying as hell.
pittland44 6 months ago
All the arguments I heard were actually better solved by smarter government spending not getting rid of that government spending.I don't think anyone want s more government spending just for the sake of government spending.
Ex: Unemployment - As long as businesses aren't hiring (i.e. ~5people/1job) we should provide unemployment benefits. We can't just set an arbitrary deadline. If there are no jobs for them to take what do we expect of them?
Lonesharck 6 months ago
@Lonesharck That example has been proven bogus multiple times in Europe. Your assumptions are blatantly false.

SRT480 6 months ago
@SRT480 Question: Your saying men are greedy and need oversight. what makes you think the men giving oversight are less greedy than the men they are overseeing? This is one of the things i dont get about communism; men are greedy, therefore we need men to rule the men?
QCprepper 6 months ago
@QCprepper you are absoulute correct. i live in the philippines and the most corrupt people are the police agencies, the people hired to fight against exactly what they themselves are doing. As for communism in my opinion that is why it failed, greed. but if you have a better plan i would love to hear it, no one i know can self regulate their lives let alone other peoples money so i am at a loss on how the situation can get better.

@SRT480 The proven way to make money is to create long-lasting brand loyalty and make your customers happy via trust and good products. The profit motive works.
HowTheWorldWorks 6 months ago 22
@HowTheWorldWorks i can understand that as that is how i shop, but what i am concerned about is companies dumping chemicals, using slave labor and other unethical practices. the part that gets me is that people state well they will lose business. but who will? so many companies are subsidiaries or change their names. Check the lables and be informed...yeah i work 14 hours a day when you count commute i bearly have time with family and sleep to be that informed. Loved your debate with TYT.
SRT480 6 months ago
@SRT480 If your concerned about buying a product made by people who worked for low wages, then dont buy the product if your that concerned about it.
A company is not going to put poisonous chemicals in their products for the fear of being sued. You can get millions from lawsuits, they dont want to deal with it.
Your definition of unethical differs from person to person. Its arbitrary, therefore its meaningless.
If you dont like your job for w/e reason, get a diff one
superlucci 6 months ago
@superlucci that sounds great, but how do you know? companies dont have to specify on labels that they a subsidary of the company you are boycotting. if you think companies arent going to produce poisonous or dangerous materials then you dont realize a majority of what we buy is a either treated with or is made with dangerous chemicals. plastics, tires, electroncis are not naturally occuring materials, and it takes alot of processing in order to get them. Wow unethical is meaningless?
SRT480 6 months ago
@SRT480 Then the onus is on you to look up this information, not for them to always provide you with all the information in the world.
Once again, if you think companies are going to want to be sued milions of dollars for each person who gets poisoned due to something, you are totally wrong.
Also, just because something may have some sort of chemical, it doesnt mean its harmful unless it has the necessary quantity to be bad.
Unethical is a subjective term, therefore its meaningless
superlucci 6 months ago
@superlucci sounds like denial to me. do you have a chemisty degree? are you a practicing physician? im not and i know that when you mix alot of different chemicals together we dont always know what can happen. I have a Hazmat and HSE background and professionals dont always knwo what will happen because our world is ever expanding and changing. we still have diseases we cant cure and problems we cant solve what makes you think a company is in some way shape or form all knowing? good luck man
