@guitartur I realise you commeted on this video ages ago, but i thought I'd enlighten you. 50 seconds of exhaling isn't bad, if you've mastered circular breathing. I can actually exhale for 3 1/2 minutes without stopping. It's really very simple.
Whoa... Your singing is truly nice and sounded like Mongolian singing. Would you show how you are doing this, or what you are doing to achieve binaural singing?
@slamboyj1 yes it is, i remember learning this at school in elective music and you have to like do something with your throat and it creates like another note on top. just takes practice.. like circular breathing
So did you make your overtones louder for the vid somehow? Mine are so quiet I can't tell if I'm imagining them or not! Maybe I'm just not singing loud enough.
what you have to do is reinforce the particular harmonics using the shape of your mouth and tongue position and such. It's like being in a room where the acoustics make a particular note boom but not other notes.
Dude, I attempted this for the first time last night and posted a video... It's NOT good, but I DID get some overtones in there and considering I'm a girl and it was my first attempt, I'm proud...
Sounds awesome. Are you doing any post-production EQing or anything to knock off the sounds from the full voice? I've never heard the drone be that quite with harmonics sounding that loudly!
Wow! You are very good! I've been trying to learn this, but my harmonics are still very shy... Please consider posting a tutorial :D It would be very nice!
@chipfadawada if you've ever been in a choir, and have your vocal chords/ diaphragm whipped into shape, you would be able to hold a note out that long, and longer, without running out of breath. I thought it was fake at first too, than I realized I could hold a note for that long too, and I wasn't out of breath. Try it! you could too :)
Is it really necessary for me to address that that's physically impossible? Lung volume can expand with practice, and half of singing long notes is knowing how to produce the most sound with the least energy.
@earsuboat There is nothing in your post that lends itself to the notion of sarcasm. I suspect you think the obvious lunacy to be an indicator of such, but surely you know such a stupid statement made in full seriousness is not impossible on the internet. As such, I was not wrong in presuming you might be "one of those people", especially in regard to something so obscure as this. How did I know someone hadn't misinformed you about circular berathing?
Yes, for Mongolian people are superior human beings and thus have completely different features than all other humans.
Or not. They are humans and he happen to be one as well, and therefore able to train himself to do Mongolian throat singing (or whatever you wish to call it).
Its easy polly. Allyou do is curl your tongue behind your front teeth about 1 cm or so. Then 'hum' a note. Change it by changing the position of the back of the tongue and how much you close/open your jaw slightly to make the space behind your curled tongue tip smaller/larger. Its kinda hard to explain but I think this should help.
I think I figured out how to do it. How high are you singing 'cus my vocal range is pretty low. It was sounding like the way you were doing it, but in a much lower pitch 'cus I'm a baritone. Do you live in Australia?
@pollywannacracka its very interesting, these high pitched overtones are actually present in normal speech, everybody uses them. They are the tones that form words. You just have to learn how to control them. Chwck out some Natascha Nikeprelevic- this video is great for learning, I found. /watch?v=XZyoElS5Fns
@eriknyquist123 Thanks. I was getting better at doing it, but haven't tried to do it in a while. I tried to at work the other day and sort of remembered. I'll check that out.
it's really not all that hard- i learned how to in about an hour (well not as good as he does but i can do a littlie bit) there are vides on y.t. that show you how
Great demo - I've been using this technique for years. You probably already know of David Hykes (I sang with him once way back when). If not, check him out. He does the same thing but with a chorus of voices. And actually, you've got three tones going there. Listen to your gut.
I seem to be getting quite a few requests on how to improve your harmonic singing... I learned from Track 18 on 'A Millennium of Choral Composition' by The Australian Voices. Tooootally recommend it!
No. Throat singing is a bonafide technique. The high pitch is not a whistle, but a false vocal fold you create in your larynx that generates the pitch.
you are getting it, but this is "western overtone singing" i sincerely advise you to take up cenral asian overtone singing. Problem with the western style is it is relativly weak and it does not progress, the sound you posses now will be the same a year from now :(
