dave is and always was a frontman and an entertainer. he had this flamboyant charisma that made early van halen sound like early van halen. sammy is a singer - great voice and great range. i was never a fan of sammy's lyrics - they always sounded like he was trying really hard to make them into one thing or another and they weren't always strong. dave's lyrics don't try to be anything, they're the embodiment of the type of ridiculous personality that he has. i like both,but roth is classic to me

Dave is a decent frontman for Van Halen and HAD a decent voice back in the day, he also is a middle aged pre madonna. Sammy is down to earth, a fun loving guy, and the RED FUCKING ROCKER! He is 64 years old, 8 years older than Dave and still can shred, have fun, sing his ass off, and be the all around better front man than Dave. The live one didn't go Number 1 but the Four studio Albumbs... 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Cernal Knowledge (The F*CK album as some have called it) and the Balance Album all went #1, while none of the Roth era Alubms never hit Number 1!!! Also I have herd since they got back together that VH is making a new Album... Im not holding my breath Mean while Chickenfoots got 2 Albums made :)

Sammy was good with Montrose, and his own band, but he wrecked van Halens songs and sound. Sammy is a good guitarist and singer, but he isnt a tenth of the showman that Roth is. Rock shows are more than just guitar solos. Its about a show, entertainment. I saw one of the shows and Sammy did better than Dave and Dave opened.Dave was in bad shape then (of course he would never admit that though) but in 2002 in Polk City Florida Dave headlined this big festival event called Rocktoberfest and I could not believe how great he belted out those old VH songs as well as entertained and just really showed that he was still capable of a great performance that would've beat Sammy's
