Hello Guy after watching this video I scoured and searched and finally found one of these and bought it ,However it is missing the fifth string tuner peg is there a chance you may have one for sale ?
@FrostyMorn It is such a joy Michael . The higher action and NYLGUT strings also adds some interesting dynamics with hammering on and pulling off ; Adding a very percusive feel .I tried to get both Music Emporium and Fretted Workshop to work on this banjo and both said it was not worth their time. Funny since I was willing the pay to fix the thing up .. I may ask Mike Ramsey to fill the tunner holes and put Pephead tuners on it and do a fret job . . Thanks for the visit .. Yours Guy
@banjukebox Yes the very old & thin skin head is a large part of the tone from this banjo . I love the tune nancy too and learned it from Don Zepp's clip here on YT . I had some Northumbrian pipes as a young man so I had knolege of the tune then . Tom Clough is still spoken very highly of in the north of England I hear ..
Guy. I've got a George Clifford Dobson Matchless banjo and I'm trying to learn this song from your video. It's a cool song and you do it really well. Thanks for posting it.
@rpeek I love the tune NAncy .. The guy that wrote it was an amazing Northumberland pipe player . They love variations on Northumberland pipes . If I ever get out we have got to get together to play .. All the best , Guy
It turns out one of the men that owned this banjo had a very very bad ending . Thats the problem with Google you can find out amazing things .. Have a look at Earl E morrie salsbury ct . Ah well . G
@guywolff I've got a Fairbanks with a name on a piece of tin someone put in the back that also says "class show" and I googled the name and found it linked to a house of ill repute.. hahaha..
@haygarthtony ..HEllo Tony I remember Collin Ross and Alister Anderson of the High Level Ranters , used to speak of Tom Clogh "The prince of Pipers" . It was here on YT that I heard he wrote the tune "Nancy ". I must go look for it as a piper's tune here . It has the sound and balence of a Jane Austen era dance tune . I am afraid your going to have to get the boy a set of Northbuberland Pipes !! No matter what else he plays he will have to learn them !! All the best , Guy

I love the deep tone you get from that banjo. Is that a natural skin head. Nancy is one of my favorite tunes. Great hearing your version
