Just lost my 3rd box to an "E74 error". First it started to get those horizontal lines after I had been playing for a while... happened randomly for a week or so and then; one red light in the ring, error message in all languages and "E74".
And this happened ironically on the 5th anniversary of the xbox 360. (2nd of december).. and yeah I'm also out of warranty.
And the funny thing; the only model they're selling in Finland now is the slim. so my 120gb HDD won't work with it.(not compatible)
I went through 4 them, then I said fuck it and bought a PS3 slim, then suddenly Microsoft starts coming out with a new xbox which I don't even think I would wanna get it because it going to brake down like the older system.
@cortes1988 Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the slim broke down.. I mean, seems to me they've been having hard time trying to get any of the models to work properly and now they make the casing smaller... I mean, isn't it ALREADY overheating like hell?

My brother had an original release xbox 360 (like a 2005-6 model) and it lived for an astonishing 5 years and THE GRAPHICS CARD snapped inside which still means it works, you just can't see anything. And since it's so old it wasn't meant to be opened without breaking the shell.

I decided after i fixed my original xbox to put it into my pc case, and get a longer sata and power cables and place the dvd drive in a spare drive bay, i also modified a a pc heatsink which is much bigger and put it on the motherboard. I also have three fans built into my pc case, i rewired the fans to the xbox motherboard, now when i feel the heatsink it is cool as fuck
your getting those lines because your GPU has dried up like a crusty clown. In other words, the compound is dry as fuck, the heatsinks are way too streamlined and small for that processor, microsoft did this because after designing the machine they found out there was no room left for the dvd drive. Now the dvd drive sits on top of the GPU, that poor processor is being suffocated by heat,
My 360 started freezing without giving an RROD and I traded it in on a PS3. That was last month and I couldn't be happier now. Blu-ray, free online. Damn thing even has a built in internet browser. And better graphics than the 360. Killzone owns Gears 2 & Halo 3.

It's true the old xbox360's often suffered from the dreaded RROD, but the new ones don't have any problems. RROD is a thing of the past now for 360's ^_^

I just sent my 360 in for the fourth time. The first two times I got the red rings and the last two the damn disk drive wouldn't read the games. I won't get a ps3 because all of my friends own the 360. The least microsoft could do is get someone who's primary language is English for customer support.

Same, mine is waiting to be sent out tomorrow. Mine is not even a year old with the new heat sink. Lines on COD 4 and then turned it back on it had a blank screen. Tried everything but nothing. Mine is still in warranty and they are paying for the UPS but still I loose it for 3-4weeks. this blows

xbox 360 - 16% failure
playstation 3 - 5% failure
wii - 3% failure
the new models are this.
xbox 360 - 0.5% failure rate
playstation 3 - 2% failure rate
wii - 3% failure rate.
it depends on what system you have, mine was manufactured and shelved on may 5th - 25th may 2009.

I just sent my 360 in for the fourth time. The first two times I got the red rings and the last two the damn disk drive wouldn't read the games. I won't get a ps3 because all of my friends own the 360. The least microsoft could do is get someone who's primary language is English for customer support.

yea i know i sent mine in got i back, they said it was brand new, i opened it up and the x-clamps were all bent to hell so what they did was just fix the motherboard(haha yea) and not the x-clamps and they put new plastic shit around it and a new code thing, but same xbox, it rrod the next day, i called then and bitched them the fuck out
