To the person below, there's nothing wrong with watching English dub anime first. It doesn't mean that you can't be a "hardcore" fan. I watched English dub of naruto first and then craved more and more and then started to read the manga and watch the original dub. Then gradually I moved on to other original Japanese anime and explored. The end result is that I have been looking at anime and reading manga for 9 years.
I belive myself to be an otaku since I do watch(just wanted to make that clear so you understand were i'm comming from)
You realy didn't say anything wrong if anyone troll you claiming to be an otaku well he's not he's just fanboy/girl that has just finished watching Naruto, Bleach or any other anime show that aired on cartoonetwork and now think they're harcore anime fans
My only qualm with anime these days is the fact that kids or young teenagers would go online and search the Japanese versions of these animes they like and subsequently find hentai or the like...
the fans made me switch to regular DC/Marvel comics. theyre brutally! i said i didnt like a certain character and the just went off on me! its a fictional character!
I may love anime but I'm no weeaboo in fact i hate when people complain about a dub that is good like Baccano. Baccano has better voices than the Japanese version but yet weeaboos say it sucks fuck weeaboos they scare me
I couldn't agree more. I've grown up with anime, and I started reading manga when I was 9, and I watched anime on Cartoon network when I was younger, so I don't think that it's "only for teens". Hell, I'm 13 and I'm watching Elfen Lied currently and I really like it so far. As for the dubs, I try not to worry about those and I just stick to subs. And even with dubs that weren't very good, I still enjoy the series for the series, not its dubs.
Ah, thank you. I agree with you on pretty much anything. It still shocks me that a show like FMA is considered appropriate for kids in Japan, but I suppose that just means children in Japan aren't treated like impressionable idiots.
@ 2:59 : In most anime it wouldn't change anything at all if they expressed their anger in a more neutral way, so unless it's Black Lagoon which got half of it's dialogues filled with swear words, they wouldn't miss anything important.
@ 3:50 : All those anime boxes are hella expensive tough. If I bought every anime I watched on the internet so far, I would've been broke in no time >.<
For people with a decent income tough I think the prices are acceptable, the quality is awesome most often :3
First off, 2:04 has to be one of my fav jap-to-english motivators so far, didn't knew that one yet so thanks ;3
On topic : Can't understand all those sub/dub trolls either, even guys that pretty much tell you that the japanese version of an anime is the only one worth watching still come by to flame the subs/dubs no matter how well they're done.
I've bought the complete DVD box of Azumanga Daioh and listened to english, german and japanese dub and all sound fine to me, still ppl flame that dub.
@ReViewMeMedia Guess you've never heard of the Sonic fanbase... atrocious little bastards, they are.
I can't believe people would complain about fansubs. Even if they are inaccurate, these people take their time and effort to sub a series for no payment at all. At least give them credit for doing so.
A LOT of fansubs suck like FUCK, and people have a fit because they suck. If you're decently versed in Japanese and you're not just a faggy weeaboo, you can tell what they're saying (even roughly) in the original version. People get butthurt about CENSORSHIP, not "no swearing". I'd rather Naruto not be aired on Toonami than be left on the cutting room floor. Swearing alone isn't a big deal - but censorship is. Most anime fans arent little kids who don't know what a swear word is.
@tw1stedgrudge That said, "suitable for kids" is relative, we've seen that country-to-country. The UK gets better dubs than the US, who actively bans whole episodes and leaves black holes in series due to minutae. (Example, the cross dressing scene on Pokemon). In my opinion, EVERYTHING should be dubbed into english, word for word, and NOT changed at all, merely translated. In doing that, we get the original work, and they can just slap an age rating on it, and fuck kids who cant watch it.
Well, I am definitely an otaku, but I don't agree with these stereotypes you're familiar with. For one, I happen to prefer dubbed over subbed anime. Another is I don't even care about language in anime. I'm more concerned about the editing done to more relevant things within anime such as episodes being left out almost completely or butchering a series past recognition of the original. I've also already known for years that anime is made for kids, teens, adults, etc.
i read in a book that talked about manga, and it said that technically there are no swear words in the japanese language (with the exception of really offenseive/rude words such as "teme" = "you").
I like anime and manga, but I totally agree with you in this video. I'm not an obsessed otaku/weaboo whatever cuz I think it's stupid, but it really pisses me off when people get out their pram over crap like that.
I couldn't help but notice you used a song from the Elfen Lied sound track. Do you like Elfen Lied? ( I have yet to meet another fan... person who likes it. :( )
I love the Claymore anime (the ending was pretty good) and the manga up to around volume 14; then there was WAY too many characters and the story was going nowhere.
At first I thought you were going to bash Anime fans in general lol. After I got that sorted out, I have to say I agree with this rant. I hate weeaboos. Weeaboos mainly like the mainstream stuff. So you will mostly see a weeaboo who only watches Naruto, Bleach, and Death Note. All fine shows (Er..I don't like Bleach though personally) But you know who's a weeaboo and who's not by simply asking them "What do you think of (Insert Non Mainstream Anime Here)?" and see their reaction.
I was just inches away from being weaboo but now I dislike most popular Anime and Manga series, I only like Cromartie High School, Black Lagoon (Which I was bashed twice for liking and they wern't even anime haters), Afro Samurai and Battle Royale.
to the people who complain about anime redubs: i actually like the redubs of anime because i am a non-anime porn kinds guy i am not the kinda guy who gets excited over uncensored body parts in anime i like the child friendly anime like sonic X and the anime movies from Studio Ghibli (since they are completely child friendly)
I think the marketing or anime to the US mainstream is shit. Good shows aren't showed, instead the American youth gets shit that challenges the mind as much Twilight.
What? No elfen lied is horrible and there is no way you can judge people over what anime they like since I like some anime others might or might not (princess tutu, welcome to the nhk, hajime no ippo
haha u say u aint a fan of too much anime but you sure know alot about it ????? show your self its gay seeing a black picture.. plus your the one making a big deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well you are mostly right.. but death note is not meant for kids, a show that gets 17+ and 15 cant possibly be suited for kids in japan. I know that the say that japanese kids gets mature at a much lower age... But that's pushing the limit
It's still a Shonen Jump manga and anime though, so its still technically for boys in Japan. I do agree though that it does push the limit though (as I said before, the anime even aired late at night in Japan)
Oddly enough, I actually heard the word "kawaii" being used in a coherent Japanese sentence. It's not a word you're not supposed to exaggerate, it just really is a normal word. So I have no idea why people would go around saying, "KAWAII~!!!" It's the English equivalent of going around screaming "CUTTTEEEE!"
its hard enough to find anime 4kids!!!! and i agree wtf is up wit em otakus they all read the same mangas bascily because there all ust girls saying im srry blah balh blah like a broken record =_= it makes me kinda feel stupied ust saying it
I agree with the SOME anime are for kids. But realistically, most aren't. Your right that there's a difference in whats considered OK for Japanese children and American children (Jap kids can take more I guess) but Death Note even in Japan is not considered a kid's show. Which is why it doesn't air on FujiT.V. or T.V. Tokyo.
The fiercest of all anime fans, are Bleach fans haha. They're so brutal. BTW, this is coming from a strong anime fan. Not necessarily Otaku or Weeaboo. (because I don't say "Kawaii or Nii-San).
Hmmm 4kids is just a fail in nature and etc. But also, the japanese doesnt really have sware words persay, just words that fansubs roughly translate to appeal to veiwers as you had brought up. Good vid, but yeah, not super specific, the extremeties of a society always give a bad rap for those less extreme, and this is true with everything
Your right, the anime community is abit over the top at the moment, with the whole "anime is for grown-ups" & "This dub, sucks, because it does" sort of thing. I had no idea the rest of the fanbase was so over the top on swearing, I mean, that's just stupid. Otaku's are only advanced fans & wouldn't really bitch about it that much. Try to build a stronger argument, though, as it isn't quite strong enough to really have a voice.
Otaku won't be at your through those are the weeaboos and fan boys and fan girls! You getting Otakus and fan boys/fan girls mixed up! Otakus are like anime's version of the hardcore gamer. And a lot of people get the hard cores and bitchy video game obsessed fan boys mixed up.
Don't take that statement I said seriously. I was simply exaggerating for humor. There actually are some otakus that act fanboyish/fangirlish out there, but obviously not all of them are.
Im an anime fan..& even I have Issues with the Fanbase & Anime in general. There just...way to Radical & Immature. ecspecially the webawoo & Otaku's who dis Dub's I live in a english speaking country, I wanna speak english Darn it! LULZ. Also Fansubs are indeed less relible then the Acutual Dub/Sub. Also hate people who also watch shows only for fanserives, Animation is an art., not somthing to oogle! ...Thank god for people like Myazaki. (who makes strong female characters)
the anime fanbase does suck. by the way, you should've mentioned their whining about sonic x(4kids dub), espicially only because sonic didn't say he loved amy
I know exactly what you mean. They need to understand is that fansubs aren't even that accurate to the original dialogue. I can't stand weeabos. They give the sane anime fans a bad name. I understand your position man. I'm ashamed of how bad the fanbase is since I'm a huge anime fan. I'm not even that interested in most of the new anime coming out. Mostly the old stuff. But I don't think the funimation dub of DBZ was bad. The anime fanbase complains about everything and it's stupid.
4kids should just stop showing anime because their dubs are so fucking horrible. And cartoon network also contributed to making naruto based towards little kids and look how that turned out. you cant buy naruto cards in wal mart or target now. Adult swim should just become an anime channel because they actually show everything! grrrrr
well actually sonic isnt that bad, although im mostly worried about the animes based towards teens/adults such as ranma 1/2 and naruto and pokemon. Those are the kind of shows they ruined.
Heaps of people make a big deal out of voices, which is really unnecessary. I mean, unless it's ear bleeding, it doesn't really matter too much. Most anime fans (especially ones from youtube families) usually bitch about little things anyway
And of course when somethings marketed to kids, stuff has to be taken out. The U.S. has been fightin to stop tobacco ads in magazines for years, but you pathetic whiners still wanna keep a cigarette in a childrens cartoon? Why don't we just show Dora doin meth then?!
I'll say this now:
I am Heine7777, and I approve of the lollipop. -_-
im nota very big anime fan but i realy like code geass besides i watch tokusatsu which is japanese live action sure some people say its chessy meh were all entitled to our opinions like for example of toku is 1:25 you see the red spd ranger but in japan hes known as dekared besides super sentai (japanese power rangers and they originated in japan in 1975 took a break in 78 but ever sence 79 theve made nonstop series theres lots of other tokus that people enjoy like kamen rider or ultraman
In my opinion I don't mind a little editing, in fact making anime appropriate for kids when I was younger was how I was able to watch the dang stuff and become a fan. You're completely right the anime fanbase goes out of control and I try not to be one of those fans. I am a fan but not crazy like them. Also with that whole swearing thing I don't care, in fact to me the language makes the anime more unsavory to me.
I admit I do like it when fansubs say Japanese terms you know cause i have something to learn but i dont spazz out if its not in the English version i mean it is the English version after all
very true dude.. Nice video I really enjoyed it and I agree with you on the whole disliking on some of the fan bases out there that do nothing but bitch like that.
Yea im not obsessed with anime, i just like to watch certain ones that are actually good and ones that i can get into.I agree with you ravencrow, good video man.
I so agree, because the sooner they learn, the smarter they'll get, so if they learn about that stuff sooner, they'll get better grades in school and their graduation rates will skyrocket!!
I think that some Anime shows such as Naruto and FMA. are suitable for kids, but others such as DBZ should be watched by teenagers depending on the country and the culture. It´s not always about the violence or the swearing.
I completely agree. Speaking as a naruto fan who appreciates both the japanese english dubs, I think the cursing used in the japanese version was suitable for the situations in the show, while the english dub did a great job of finding alternative ways of saying them to keep the mood similar but make it more approvable for the specific audience. I also agree about the age group thing. It bugs me when people diss an anime cause its "childlike". Most animes are for anyone who wants to watch them.
You are completely right!! The anime elitists are annoying!!! Localization is not bad sometimes geeze!!! Maybe 4kids does it bad but Funimation did a splendid job at the localization for Shin-Chan and also YOU CAN NOT MARKET A SUBBED ANIME ON T.V.!!! So it has to be dubbed!! Get over it!!
Well the series is a Shōnen Jump property, so it is suitable for boys in Japan. Despite that, however, Death Note likely pushed the limit on what could be suitable for a Shōnen Jump series, because the anime series aired late at night in Japan, similar to how Death Note aired on Adult Swim in America.
The whole sub vs. dub thing drives me insane. I hate it when hardcore fans of a series complain when there isn't anything wrong with the dub. Unless the dub is done by 4kids, or is a very poor dub there's NOTHING to complain about!
To the person below, there's nothing wrong with watching English dub anime first. It doesn't mean that you can't be a "hardcore" fan. I watched English dub of naruto first and then craved more and more and then started to read the manga and watch the original dub. That and if people see a dub first, like it, see a sub next, and then hate the dub, they need to be burned in an oven. Honestly.

The dubbed dragonball Z again, whole lot better. Funimation rocks

(who makes strong female characters)
soundmonkey44 2 years ago 3
the anime fanbase does suck. by the way, you should've mentioned their whining about sonic x(4kids dub), espicially only because sonic didn't say he loved amy
327HUH 2 years ago
I know exactly what you mean. They need to understand is that fansubs aren't even that accurate to the original dialogue. I can't stand weeabos. They give the sane anime fans a bad name. I understand your position man. I'm ashamed of how bad the fanbase is since I'm a huge anime fan. I'm not even that interested in most of the new anime coming out. Mostly the old stuff. But I don't think the funimation dub of DBZ was bad. The anime fanbase complains about everything and it's stupid.
aikoarisaka420 2 years ago 3
4kids should just stop showing anime because their dubs are so fucking horrible. And cartoon network also contributed to making naruto based towards little kids and look how that turned out. you cant buy naruto cards in wal mart or target now. Adult swim should just become an anime channel because they actually show everything! grrrrr
animeroxmysox012 2 years ago
Actually, 4Kids has considered to sub Sonic X
marcster1994 2 years ago
horrible D:
animeroxmysox012 2 years ago
Actually, that's what people WANTED, am I correct?
marcster1994 2 years ago
Yeah, but to be honest, I don't really care. Sonic X wasn't that good of a show to start with.
RavenCrow89 2 years ago
well actually sonic isnt that bad, although im mostly worried about the animes based towards teens/adults such as ranma 1/2 and naruto and pokemon. Those are the kind of shows they ruined.
animeroxmysox012 2 years ago
Heaps of people make a big deal out of voices, which is really unnecessary. I mean, unless it's ear bleeding, it doesn't really matter too much. Most anime fans (especially ones from youtube families) usually bitch about little things anyway

I agree. Japanese standards are different from American standards.

good rant i hate the fans that dress up as the charecters it bugs the shit out of me and its kinda sad and funny at the same time...
Fishcheetah 2 years ago
People complaining about voices makes me angry too.
if they don't like it, GTFO and watch the sub then.
marcster1994 2 years ago
And of course when somethings marketed to kids, stuff has to be taken out. The U.S. has been fightin to stop tobacco ads in magazines for years, but you pathetic whiners still wanna keep a cigarette in a childrens cartoon? Why don't we just show Dora doin meth then?!
I'll say this now:
I am Heine7777, and I approve of the lollipop. -_-
Heine7777 2 years ago
I don't really. A toothpick or something would have been a better substitute. That's just me though.
RavenCrow89 2 years ago
I agree with most of his stuff.
Some edits are completely acceptable, and people shouldn't complain about it.
And sorry, but whenever anyone has an "excited" kinda attitude towards cursing, I hit them. I hit them hard. What are you people, FIVE?!
Heine7777 2 years ago 3
A lot of anime fans do complain a lot
i however dont really give a crap
except once when Drunken Fist=Loopy fist but other than that i dont care as long as its true to the original (which i dont really watch either)
and what is an otako and weeaboo

Nice Rant!
ADude6 2 years ago
I know 4Kids isn't exactly very good, i can understand why they did some edits(ex. blood, adult language, sexual themes)
But I'm not going to go to far in that.
marcster1994 2 years ago
im nota very big anime fan but i realy like code geass besides i watch tokusatsu which is japanese live action sure some people say its chessy meh were all entitled to our opinions like for example of toku is 1:25 you see the red spd ranger but in japan hes known as dekared besides super sentai (japanese power rangers and they originated in japan in 1975 took a break in 78 but ever sence 79 theve made nonstop series theres lots of other tokus that people enjoy like kamen rider or ultraman
sonicadventureDX 2 years ago
Meh, I still think some people are too afraid of a little swearing.
TB26 2 years ago 3
In my opinion I don't mind a little editing, in fact making anime appropriate for kids when I was younger was how I was able to watch the dang stuff and become a fan. You're completely right the anime fanbase goes out of control and I try not to be one of those fans. I am a fan but not crazy like them. Also with that whole swearing thing I don't care, in fact to me the language makes the anime more unsavory to me.

*clap clap clap* Very good points.

Don't forgot the DiC Sailor Moon dub!
But yeah, agreed, especially with the teenagers comment (someone I know said that once). It's just a cartoon people, please, calm down a little.

I admit I do like it when fansubs say Japanese terms you know cause i have something to learn but i dont spazz out if its not in the English version i mean it is the English version after all
crazygreen89 2 years ago
Also good rant =)
emeraldthechao174 2 years ago
I don't get why people bitch over swear words being in or cut out of anime, they're just words; not a major death-scene or personality factor.
emeraldthechao174 2 years ago
very true dude.. Nice video I really enjoyed it and I agree with you on the whole disliking on some of the fan bases out there that do nothing but bitch like that.
shadow759 2 years ago
Yea im not obsessed with anime, i just like to watch certain ones that are actually good and ones that i can get into.I agree with you ravencrow, good video man.
EpicBlargman 2 years ago
Another good video :)

If someone tries to compare an Anime by fansubs to dubs and complain how there's no swearing or less blood about it, it's makes it really pointless.
It's just an anime, why so surious?
nat1967 2 years ago
amearicans appearently cant handle all the shit japan can
Y does everything have to be cencered when its barely even bad
and kids are going to find out about this crap anyway y not teach them now
completechaos21 2 years ago
I so agree, because the sooner they learn, the smarter they'll get, so if they learn about that stuff sooner, they'll get better grades in school and their graduation rates will skyrocket!!
SonicFamilyGal 2 years ago
I think that some Anime shows such as Naruto and FMA. are suitable for kids, but others such as DBZ should be watched by teenagers depending on the country and the culture. It´s not always about the violence or the swearing.
Sonsally 2 years ago
I saw the spanish dub which was un-edited. Then I watch the english dub in Canada and I was surprised by the change
blakethechao 2 years ago
I completely agree. Speaking as a naruto fan who appreciates both the japanese english dubs, I think the cursing used in the japanese version was suitable for the situations in the show, while the english dub did a great job of finding alternative ways of saying them to keep the mood similar but make it more approvable for the specific audience. I also agree about the age group thing. It bugs me when people diss an anime cause its "childlike". Most animes are for anyone who wants to watch them.
Silverknux91 2 years ago
You are completely right!! The anime elitists are annoying!!! Localization is not bad sometimes geeze!!! Maybe 4kids does it bad but Funimation did a splendid job at the localization for Shin-Chan and also YOU CAN NOT MARKET A SUBBED ANIME ON T.V.!!! So it has to be dubbed!! Get over it!!
TeenChibi 2 years ago
Yeah, usually the only foreign language channels that are provided in my country are in Spanish, such as Univisión and Telemundo.

Death Note was suitable for kids?
That's pretty badass.
JonnotheHedgehog 2 years ago
Well the series is a Shōnen Jump property, so it is suitable for boys in Japan. Despite that, however, Death Note likely pushed the limit on what could be suitable for a Shōnen Jump series, because the anime series aired late at night in Japan, similar to how Death Note aired on Adult Swim in America.
RavenCrow89 2 years ago
Ah, I see.
JonnotheHedgehog 2 years ago
The whole sub vs. dub thing drives me insane. I hate it when hardcore fans of a series complain when there isn't anything wrong with the dub. Unless the dub is done by 4kids, or is a very poor dub there's NOTHING to complain about!
