  • "...See a way to still better their condition." ("To whom it may concern" letter) I agree that he was alone and that he did not do it for money. These people should not believe everything that their government tells them and some are even revisionist propaganda that they teach (And still today)! History is re-written by the winners.

  • I don't believe that Booth did it for revenge: as his letter to his mom, his "To whom it may concern" letter and the diary all paints him as a soldier as his motivation. If these people can at least back up their theories it would help in their credibility as experts. Now as Booth being a racist anyone would agree a racist would not have any sympathy for any other race and Booth had even said "Yet Heaven knows no one would be willing to do more for the negro race than I.   • "American Brutus", by Michael Kauffman is one of the best books I have ever read.  Great book!!!!!

  • @redlion83 I totally agree. Shortly before the book was published, I had the great fortune of doing the Surratt Society's John Wilkes Booth Escape Route Tour and Mr. Kauffman was the tour guide.
