Isn't the soap still pretty caustic when it's new? I though you were supposed to glove up to handle it new due to the lye and then let it age for x amount of time.
@ytctma no it's only caustic if you don't mix it throughly. Also the hot process helps with that alot so that is why I chose to do hot process. Blessings!
Please help, I'm trying to make hot processed tallow soap and it isn't working. First it got really thick really fast but it was smooth and pretty. Then I added a little water so it would thin out, then it got grainy, so I let it cool and cooked it back down but it just kept getting too thick so I kept adding water, now i have a big pot of suds and it won't saponify. Is there any hope for this mess?
@purity4all can you pick up some glycerin that Will help. Just add a couple of teaspoons just get it where you can press it to stick it Will still be good. Blessings!
i think your so clever i have actually spent a day watching ALL your videos i think they are great ,im from the UK and people have no need or just dont can or have a food storage however i think it is a good idea as you never know what can happen ...also your soap is great ,i very much would love to live of my land and make all my own products ..keep up the good work :-)
@sharkdark666 I'm not sure not that I know but I'm not by any means a pro on soap. Give bearlysceneranch2011 a pm she makes some amazing soaps. Blessings!
@mikallang I know firing rockets was the fun days , now i help people by making the cheap and unavailable things like soap due to the blockade that Israel apply on us
P.S: we have to make everything by our hands now , since they destroyed all our factories and we said goodbye to any automated manufacturing :(
@BexarPrepper Great stuff, if people only knew how hard our ancestors worked years ago for everything, they would be grateful. We go to stores today and take everything for granted! Great Vid!
@KatNip2007 It would be easier for you to go to soapcalc.com just put in the amount and type of lard or oil you have on hand and it will give you the amount of lye and water you need. If you have trouble pm me with the amounts you have and I'll figure it out for you. Blessings!
@jerwar68 well the only thing I had to pay for was the fragrance and the lye. The fat was from brisket I did. It would depend on the ingredients (fats) you use. Go to soapcalc.com and you can make your own recipe based on what fat you want to use.
@possumfam First no question is stupid. There are two types of lye that I know of NaOH or KOH. I found mine at the hardware store in the pluming section (look for it they were no help in mine) Mine is Roebic Crystal Drain Opener and should say 100% Lye (used recipe for NaOH at soapcalc.com) somewhere on the label. Red Devil Lye is no longer sold.
Hey, just remember water weighs 8.4lbs per gal.so a pint is a pound. 1.05lbs actually. You can use this to determin what size container you need for measuring when you use lbs instead of ounces. Or just use this the next time you're playing trivia. LOL
@MsDKGirl I used 55ml of fragrance in each crock pot and just used food color for the coloring. It's really easy just measure your ingredients use the soapcalc(dot)com for the right amounts depending on what type of oils your going to use. I made 5 lbs of soap.
I wouldn't be cutting on your table, cutting board! The pink almost looks like Zote soap. if you whip your soap before poring in to the tub it will float like ivory soap. You can make a nice round soap shape with a clam shell mold and a hydraulic press, to get that professional (store bought) look.
Grew up with Grandparents in WV all of our clothes were washed in Lye Soap in a wringer washer and blueing (not sure of spelling) for the rinse water the Lard that was use was from Sausage grease. Pap put it on the wood burner stove for days it seems like do not remember the time for sure...after it set up we had hand coleslaw graders to get in little flake pieces for washing clothes. Oh the memories you bring!!!! Thanks for the videos....
@msdodgeomni too many of the older skill sets are being lost to the current generation. I hope I am helping to keep it alive and also teaching my children ways to survive in the comming troubles.
@jimhuntermj21 I was surprised how easy it was. The hardest part was cutting the fat off the brisket. Next time I think I'll just go to the butcher and ask for a bag of fat.
You can use any type of oils or lard. There is a geat web site that you just put in how much of what you want to put in it and it gives you the water and lye measurements. soapcalc.net/calc/SoapCalcWP(dot)asp

Do you have a recipe video for this soap?

@astrialkil Thanks for the info. I was surprised how easy it was to make. I wasn't really cutting just gently pressing down it was still very soft.
