Yes, it may seem dated, but let us not forget, and honor, the Harnoncourts and others who made the revolution. We take it for granted now, but not then. Thank you for posting this.
Hola Tienlain.
Coming of age in the 70s, recordings of these two Masters, Alice Harnoncourt and Jürg Schaeftlein taught me as much as any teacher in school. Schaeftlein died of cancer not too long after this. Really moving to see this.
i like it..i usually listent to another kind of music..but this is nice too:)..i like it..i listened it for my music class but...is nice to hear that..:):D
That's because most original baroque wind instruments were about a semitone lower than the modern standard of a=440Hz and many period instrument groups play at that pitch. It works better for the gut strings as well. BTW, this video is pretty old and baroque violin playing without chin rests, etc., hadn't yet become standard.
Wait, never mind, it's supposed to be in the same key (I can see the fingerings are the same) but the audio in this is a half-step down for some reason.
The poor oboe is trying to get a note out over the WHOLE orchestra! I agree the balance is off. Yeah...I see chin rests on period violins..arrggghhhh, take them off!
The balance is off, and, given the fact that Jurg is playing on a baroque oboe, I find it odd that the strings are using modern technique. They need to unclamp themselves from their instruments and lighten it up a bit.
And, is that not a very young Count Nikolaus de la Fontaine und d'Harnoncourt-Unverzagt playing the cello?

I get to play the oboe part on my violin! Yay!
Mine's in "d-moll," which I'm going to assume is "D minor." Any reason why it's in a different key than this?
