Wow. very unique!! wish i had the ability to even do something remotely like this.. i dont think my parents will let me get a tesla coil though... :) BEAUTIFUL work!
Wow! Very interesting to see the relief form due to the charge and heat. It actually creates a stunning illusion of topography. And clouds too! The nebulae are magnificent. Beautiful work.
@DETACHED76 Thank you. What bugs me is my video has lost sound for some reason. So now, if I re-post it, I will lose my nearly 30,000 views which really bugs me. Oh well ... the joy of computing ... Thanks again!

As an ameteur enthusiast this technique has a million possibilities for me. Do you have a website or other video explaining this 'shocking' setup or is it a closely guarded trade secret? I would LOVE to learn it as I havent set myself on fire for ages.
Like the video. And I just bought myself a Dave Archer original! Beautiful. Only reason I didn't get Elysium was due to the nasty charges to get glass safely all the way to Australia! But WHEN I do get another one, it'll make me a collector. :-). Cheers and thanks.
Yea! @greypalladium ... thank you so much for collecting my work. I had three wonderful trips to Australia, (Adelaide) each one better than the one before. I love your country, the animals, and especially ... the people!!! My greatest adventure was a flight to Kangaroo Island in a small plane piloted by an Aussie "bush" pilot where we landed in a herd of sheep and almost hit a row of trees! While there we had a sensational bar-b-que with seven different meats. Thanks again, Dave
Yep, that's me on Bill Nye the Science Guy ... ha! What do the letters "lmao" mean ... remember I'm an old guy and we have to be instructed in the fine art of anacronyms, okay ...
HCB! I will now filter lmao into my nym-bank and have at it and drive the old farts here in the fidgit-farm completely round the bend .. I need this new information man, thanks for the update, and keep them coming ...ps: " hcb" equals "holy crap brother!"
Dave, In the 80s I saw your work in San Fran. I couldn't afford even a print but years later I was able to afford an original "Brilliance". It remains my most prized possession. You truly are an "Artist". THanks
Great to hear from you man. Ah yes, San Francisco. I remember it well. Now I live in the Oregon countryside, in a natural Paradise. From all the "clear-cut logging bs" that has been put out over the years, people actually think we have no trees here. Ha! If you look at the time-exposure photo of the US from space, Oregon is the only area with no lights. Hum, must be all must all those trillions of trees. Glad you love my painting ... makes me feel good when people tell me that. Thanks!
Hi Gemini ... have no idea what the "3:04" clicker you put in is, since I clicked on it and it didn't take me anywhere. Thanks for liking it though! Ha! I think.
Several weeks ... the paints go on in thin layers, each must dry, and there are many layers. Usually I take more time than that though, because I can't paint anything out or change it, so I want to make sure I'm happy with the piece before I go on. Often I do many different drawings on the front of the glass using a grease pencil that is easily removed. Placement of moons, etc., is very imortant for me. Thanks for the comment.
Many years ago, decades really, NASA astronauts used to tell me things to the effect, "I don't know what you are doing, but it actually looks real". Others would say: "It doesn't look like this exactly, but it "feels" like this". Thanks, Moirasaur
FUZZY PEACHES! Thank you for taking time to let me know you enjoyed my work. I remember doing Bill Nye, many years ago, and am glad to hear the re-runs are still going. I plan to make a new YouTube video soon. I'm older now, and it takes me time to get everything I want to do actually done. All best ...
A lot of folks won't believe this, but I am the guy who started it all from doing "Beyond 2000" decades ago and showing techniques. Kids in South A. and Mexico picked it up and the rest is history. Beyond at the time had the highest syndication rate worldwide of any show. Thousands saw me paint once a month for five years. I feel proud to have brought this about. It pleases me very much. A friend even called from the remote island of Christmas Island in the pacific to say he was watching!
Dear Everestlad, Thank you for your thoughtful hate mail. I value your letter but do to the amount of hate mail I receive I am unable to personally respond. I know that your time is valuable and i appreciate the time you took to express this to me.
lol there is two ways to respond to hate mail. cursing that person out or sending him back to his mothers basement saying wtf. i like how you handle hate mail. =] and that was cool
Thanks sk8 ... I realized one day after getting a particular nasty one, that humor is the best route for me, personally. I told a friend and he got hate mail too, So we wrote it together, laughing all the way. Thank you for your warm comment.
hi ChiefMojoRising LIVES! Yes I do commissions for many folks, famous and otherwise ... would you lik to see some work just finished? I'm an elder, so bear with me, okay ...
In 1970 an artist named Lee Byrd suggested I try painting on glass with his small coil ... drove it to my studio, and we had a ball ... "It's Alive!!! It's Alive!!!" That's how it started. Did my first tv show a short time later. It was fate.
I actually got to go out to Dave's house a few weeks ago with my science class and watch him use his Tesla Coil first hand, I also got to weild the lighting with this rod thing. Dave is a pretty cool guy.
I saw a short documentary of your work on german tv,a few years ago,and I´m very glad to find you here on youtube, giving us some information how you do your paintings. Looks awesome!
I recommend Dave Archer and Linda Riegler (she has a gallery in San Francisco that shows Dave's work) as two very decent human beings, kind and considerate beyond all expectations. I said it over the phone to Linda a number of years ago and am saying it now to both of you-thanks for you help!!
Wow! This art is fantastic! I am in my final year of highschool and I needed an artist to learn about and study his technique in the subject of space. I found the work you do on the internet and I a completely inspired by this, i am trying to do something like it in the physics lab but i can't find anything on the net on your technique... Truly fantastic though.
Thank you Hyashia, Just got back from an "on the road" trip to old friends and family. My heart is full. Life is good. Glad you like my work. If you want to interview me for your paper, email me with five questions. Best, Dave
Dear Epic310 ... glad you like what I do. Thanks for taking time to post a comment. I live in the country after a life in the big city. Sure is different. Too quiet. Good to hear from people. Best, Dave
Dear D4nk5, Thanks so much for taking the time to write a comment. Really picks up my day, and that's saying a lot, considering my son got married yesterday and I was there. Yea! I'm on top of thw world. One of the best days of my life. Thanks again. I gotta make another movie. Dave

Thank you J.R. Phoenix was really great huh. Hanging out with seven men who walked on the moon. Did you see Buzz Aldrin brush his teeth in front of three hundred people? Ha! Like they say, if you're Buzz, you get to brush your teeth anywhere you want. Doing the show nearly killed me, physically, but I'm recovered now, and making a new show. This time, sculpture.
