One sublime moment sums this video up: 3:13 -3:30 ish. The pass is so deliciously exquisite that everyone runs to congratulate him and not the scorer (Viera).
After Tuesday at Nou Camp and earlier in S Africa I as a Rotterdammer unfortunately have to admit that Van Persie is not in the same league as Bergkamp -who is from Amsterdam (Ajax and all that) which makes it a bit painful...
henry confirmed it! henry: bergkamp is the best player i ever worked with! hmm he worked with zidane also ? that just proves bergkamp was the better player!
The brilliance about all these passes is that they are all fast enough so that the defender doesn´t catch up with the attacker, but slow enough for the attacker to make the perfect decision... every pass with so much feeling and played on shear instinct. This makes football even attractive to watch than a perfect finish. A true artist.
Really look at it and you'll be speechless. Best 1st touch ever, best goal EVER scored (Newcastle), best 3-trick ever ( Leicester), best WC goal ever scored (Arg '98).
His assists are even more jaw dropping. He made it so, that strikers had no other option but score. Really look at his vids: it's regal, cerebral, instinct class.
A career from striker to shadow striker to provider to playmaker to tempo dictating player. Better than Pele, Cruijff, Eusebio, Maradona, Puskas.
Most beautiful thing about it is that he gives a pass and the attackers can't do anything but score! Look at the assist on Ljungberg (my personal favorit) against juve, he gives the ball with a bounce so Ljungberg lobs. Or the one Viera against (i think) chealsea, give the ball in the run keeper comes out and Viera just has to touch it and he's pas the goalie. Fav player all times
Dennis Bergkamp. The legend. It wouldnt be fair to call him a human being, his skills defied the rules of logic.A true Arsenal legend.Hats off.Had it not been for his fear of flying,he would have been in the same bracket of Pele and Maradona,or need I say even better than them
@jagadeesh007 - yeah - we can only imagine what he would have accomplished if he didn't fear flying... guess it's the same with Ronaldo and his blown knees..
Thank you for this upload, being half dutch i grew up watching the dutch players, and having them as my idol. Many are among my favourit, one stands out during my childhood growing up, his name is Dennis" Bergkamp"
So elegant, so classy in his fotboll. I miss this kind of elegance now that players like him and zidane are not around to show us what fotboll is all about.
p.s. I post his on a video to his assists, because i feel that this marks the player Bergkamp was; a amazing teamplayer who used his skills for the team. Players such as Henry should have made a statue for him.
In Van Persie you also can see the touch of the master..... enjoy!!!
As an Ajax fan and Dutchmen i truly have to say that Bergkamp easily, but i do mean easily fits in the category of Cruyff and Van Basten. It is so embarrassing that he never got the recognition he deserved.
i m morrocan and i watch dennis since i had 6 years old bergkamp is the best i v never seen i player like him he deserve at least 4 time best player in the world of the year
We will never see another player like him, watching this just had me shaking my head in disbelief.
To see things as quickly as he saw them, and then to put the ball where not one player thought he would put it, all in the blink of an eye.
Probably the most cerebral player ever, always looking, always thinking, had a picture in his head of where everyone would be, this guy could tell the future on the pitch.
@8lackfoot ahem...xavi, xabi alonso, van der vart? theres quite a few just as good or better than bergkamp. dont get me wrong bergkamp was good but you are putting him on a pedestal of the likes of Zidane which is ludicrous.
@987costa so you are saying that bergkamp is better than zidane? hahaha Bergkamp hasnt even won World Player of the year.
those examples were bad, with the exception of xavi which i have no problems saying he is better than bergkamp. he deserved the Ballon d'Or this year.
now thinking it through, i would say sneijder, ronaldinho(past), kaka(at Milan), Gerrard(a little iffy) and fabregas has the potential(he's not going to win anything at arsenal)
@hyphyhour - Zidane (and Ronaldhino at his peak) was better than Bergkamp yes... but none of the other players you named... I love to watch Xavi play...but he is not either. Bergkamp went from a pure striker who led the Dutch league 3 years in a row which is a feat only done by Marco Van Basten and Romario!!! Even his so caled "failed" time at Inter... he still scored beautiful goals. He then went to a "support striker" and then to a playmaker.... not many players in history can do that.
as a whole maybe not, but i'd take him over Zidane any day. Bergkamp has a better shot, better vision, better passing, his 1st touch was almost as brilliant. trophies don't mean much. Zidane got most of his for playing great in 10 games during a whole season. why? cos it was at big international tournaments. how many times he was chosen as a best player of the season in the league? ONLY once. way overrated.
im not an arsenal fan but you have to say bergkamp (genius) and viera were the backbone of the arsenal midfield during the invisibles run 49 games undefeated they were on top of th world
@miz97, on paper yes he was a striker but after he hit 30, he started dropping deeper and deeper. Sometimes he would play right in the centre of midfield, picking the ball up and spraying it forward. Obviously he didn't tackle or defend like a midfielder but he played a very deep role.
There has never been a greater creator that Bergkamp......I think not, that's why they called him "God".
He could just unravel a defense like no other.
That's what sets him apart from the other "legends" of the game. Others were more prolific goalscorers, but there has never been another striker/attacking midfielder that pulled the strings like the Maestro. He just made everyone around him better.... just make a run and a perfectly weighted pass falls at your feet.....
so? he created more goals was more of an overall help to the team he wasnt a wait in the box then tap it in more creative then Nistelroy and Hasselbaink combined times 3
they didnt make assists like him, didnt start movements like hime, didnt score goals as good as him, didnt make every1 else around look much better etc etc etc..
@jigglyfidda125 - do you mean for club or country? the only Dutch player that scored more than him for the national team is Kluivert I believe.....and that's only because Dennis was afraid of flying!!
that's great. I am surprise to see many people consider bergkamp as their sports hero like myself. bergkamp is my greatest sports star to me though there are many great dominant sports stars.
Watchin Spain v Russia today. Tied nil - nil. The tournament's tip scorer, Villa, goes off. Cesc come on. Sets up two goals that could have been scripted by the Dutch Master himself. Long live the Iceman!!
"Intelligence and class. Class is of course, most of the time linked to what you can do with the ball, but the intelligence makes you use the technique in an efficient way. What he does, there's always a head and always a brain. And his technique allows him to do what he sees, and what he decides to do."
