@McLovin6n9 I'm guessing the game designers probably wanted to troll people by not having Poke balls available off the bat, in case of a shiny appearing.
I was playing Ruby (haven't played it in years) just to get the regi's, went through a tunnell, wild shiney golbat appeared, I was like, "huh." caught it and it is now a member of my team in Diamond, soon to be in White :)
