James Dean, Shelley Winters and Marilyn went a nd saw the movie "On The Waterfront " together around 1951 as a triple date. They saw it at the RKO studios. When they came out of the building someone in the group made a comment about the orphanage across the road and the comment hurt MM because she had been there for two years as a child.
marilyn actually enjoyed her own company, she said herself " an artist needs time alone to develop their talent" She also said of herself " I'm not lonely, just alone.
@RideHanna That's true . . . she did say that, as well as many other things. I also feel like I relate to her on many levels. From everything I've come to know about her through countless books, she was a lot like me. When I am at my loneliest, I retreat and seclude myself further, because I'm too sad to seek out company. I believe I understand her quite well, though I may very well be wrong. I think she was the saddest, loneliest woman in the world.
@Mezzosoprano97 Yes Marilyn is universally relatable that is a prerequisite for a star we have to be able to project onto them. Another reason for her popularity would be her paradox's for example serious acting student and blonde bombshell. Marilyn was years ahead of her time to be embodying such extreme contradictions, but hey! we all have them. Over the years I have met many who knew her, some of her friends have become mine. Sam Shaw told me she had the exuberance of a teenager to the end.
