I'm impressed with Sean Penn. He's one of the only Hollywood actors with enough conscience to speak out about what he sees happening to his country. Or maybe he's one of the only ones who sees what's happening. Whatever the case, I just read "Mean Justice" and bought this movie online, and also ordered the T-shirt. Everyone should watch this movie and think about what it says about the kind of society we live in, that allows things like this to happen.

I met one of these children (now an adult) last night. There was no denying the injuries and scars left by the actions Bakersfield law enforcement. Some wounds still fester.

We owe this episode to the passive acceptance of propaganda by the early '80s voting public, now old and on their way out.

Our justice system is still just like the Salem Witch Trials. They give out plea bargains, just say you're guilty and they'll let you off easy, but heaven help you if you maintain your innocence!

And then there's CPS, the child kidnappers, who are somehow above all the other laws. Even if the charges are dropped, you still have to go to a different court to try to get your child back, and if they don't like you, you're screwed. :(

It was painful to watch this documentary. I had trouble watching it all the way through.

These people had 10, 15 and even 20 years of their life taken away from them due to wrongful convictions.

In one case a prosecutor agreed to drop the charges if the accused passed a polygraph test. After he passed it the prosecutor backed out of the deal. The man spent 10 years in prison before his conviction was overturned.

As someone who is studying criminal justice now to go into law enforcement this doesn't surprise me at all. Sometimes police do this whether because of pressures from superiors, public or sometimes just to be asses. Police are supposed to protect us the public and not this shit.
