Sorry I have a berner and I have to disagree with a lot if this. He weights 120 in shape. Brush once a week and I have tOwn him to a groomer and had no problems.
So so so cute!! Who wouldn't want to have these dogs all over you, snuggling up?!! The only con (which is actually a pro) is that I'm really into rescue, but it was hard to find a rescue for Berners where we are. Not many people relinquishing Berners to rescues (which is good!) but harder for those who would rather adopt instead of getting from a breeder. Love these silly, beautiful, loving doggies!
@heightssurfer My favourite dog, but all the same the fur, short lifespan and in some of them, the drool are all cons, but it still doesnt stop me LOVING my bernese :D
The fure i can deal with cuz i have two very fluffly cats that shed like no tomarrow so not prob with that. My dad might be getting the whole family this kind of breed next month from newhampsher. Can't wait! Dad wamted ,e tp dp sp,e reasearch so i shall email this link.
His little face!;3 i really want one of these dogs, but most of the days i'm at school and my mum and dad are at work so I don't think the dog could put up with this, so i can't get one at the moment :(
@evguenia7 I would recommend researching temperaments and lifestyle fits. Everyone has different considerations. But don't just get a Bernese because they're really cute. They're not necessarily the best dogs for first-time dog owners, or those who've never had a large/giant breed before. I have lots of information & experience, but my best ADVICE is to make sure you're ready for this dog. They need and deserve a lot from those who choose to adopt them.
Berners love their humans. If you are working full time and there is no one home during the day , this is not the breed for you. You'll just make this precious puppy miserable and neglected.
They live such a short life they should enjoy every minute of it.
Check out my 9 day old berner that opened his eyes for the first time.

My dog Berner goes everywhere with me but has no problem being at home by herself for 8 hours. And yes, there is hair, hair, and more hair...

What kind of idiot groomers does this woman encounter? I've never had a groomer who would agree to shave a berner or st. bernard - even at petsmart!

@liona43 That's a shame, i really wanna get one, bad sadly he/she'd be home alone during the day, unless I could get a dog walker/sitter. :(
nickeroo 1 year ago
@liona43 I agree. The longest our baby is ever home alone is 2 hours or so. He wants to be around us all the time.
