  • thursday did an amazing cover of this...rickly 4 life...jonsi 4 ;life

  • I fucking love this song but it's kind of disappionting at 6:13 when you're expecting "Aleinn á ný" (alone again) but all you get is Sjussasu pleeeeee(obviously hopelantic)

  • All time my favorite the bow guitar intros too abrasive but expresses the feeling of having my nerves torn apart while the rest of the song oozes angst for me

  • orgasmic

  • Good performance, but tempo is a bit too quick

  • fuck they're good.....just.....fuck.

  • lindo.

  • What language is this?!? cuz its sexy! i must learn it... NOW!!!

  • @maad131 Íslenska að visu! :) It's Icelandic. It's a fascinating language -- a living time capsule. In some ways, it's even more reminiscent of Old English than modern English is. And I agree, it has a really beautiful sound, between the trills, the unvoiced consonants, the greater variability in plosives and fricatives, etc. Give it a shot. :)

    Gangi þér vel!

  • @KarenRei I love your language!

  • this song translates to something very disturbing. I think It's about someone getting raped. It's a beautiful song, my favourite.... Did Jonsi ever get raped? O.O

  • Fucking Hiatus... At least I got to see them once before it. I fear they'll never come back.

  • They didn't have their famous cymbal. ):

  • This was in Philadelphia in early 2000

  • do they still play this song live? i would kill

  • @1111BLAKE1111 Nah, i don't think they do.

    Because they're on hiatus...

  • fuck, there when the drums kick in, it's like a fuckin orgasm

  • Jonsi is so brilliant. This song is so sad and beautiful.

  • i'm a relatively old fart (almost 59) who just discovered this band a few years ago. i don't want to sound too depressed and suicidal, but i can only stand so much sad sounding music. i have only so many tears to shed(?), and i've shed quite a few million gallons. i would like to hear them to do something with a little more danceable beat.so, Dear SR, please get crazy and let's hear you do a cover of a Cure song New Order, Joy Division, ....something like that....for Jeepers Creepers Sake!!!!.

  • @SanFranciscoJames check out the new stuff like "Saeglopur" it is very lively. And might I recommend that if you want to hear something upbeat like the Cure... listen to the Cure!! If you don't want to cry... don't listen to Joy Division

  • @jswee217 ...js.....i regard anything that makes me cry as Divine........ there's nothing wrong with making suggestions to artists, who can sometimes get stuck in ruts and then kill themselves. Michael Jackson, for instance....now he would have done good to make some really sad songs....with lyrics like 'please help me somebody. i'm stuck in the closet and i'm going to kill myself'. that would have been helpful. but for now, i'm checking out saelplgopur. thanks.

  • @jswee217 thanks. i don't think i'd heard this before, not to mention, seen this incredible video from 'the fountain mix'.

my mother actually saved me from drowning once, but i don't feel like crying right now....maybe later.......

  • @SanFranciscoJames It's sometimes odd what people interpret as being depressing or sad. To me, this just sounds extremely relaxing, warm and mind-filling. Fine music to have a meaningful lay to, if you know what I mean.

Stuff like this has a very similar quality to some classical pieces like Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a theme - powerful and maybe melancholy, but I always get a lifting feeling in my chest when I hear it.

  • @tSp289 i agree, its not depressing at all. If anything it gives me a feeling of calmness and a picture of Iceland or somewhere with lots of blue and ice. lol.

  • @jswee217 yes, i think this may be my favorite song from them so far i've heard. exhilarating..a symphony of emotion...

  • @SanFranciscoJames Wow, nice to see some more adult people enjoying their music! Everyone are always a little depressed and cries, it's normal. I guess when you just think about it, it sounds rather weird and that you're the only person in the world that feel that way. But you're not!

I'd love to see them cover some Joy Division songs myself, It would sound wild!

  • wow

  • The bass in this song Butchers me!...in a gooood way xD

  • 10 People without Soul

  • They need to put EVERY performance onto DVD's.

  • que carajo xD como pueden llamar Emo a esto !!! esto es Magia! n________n !

  • It's not emo and It's like music but It's more ... It's perfect

  • deep into the soul...

  • and for the Emo`s... to make them happy "we should keep true screamo bands like saetia, envy, or funeral diner as screamo, because otherwise people will continue saying bullshit like My chemical romance is emo, Alesana is Screamo etc... People have to understand that it's certainly not embarassing to listen to true emo and screamo, because it's actually not different than listen to true grindcore or else, and that emo / screamo actually has nothing to do with so called emokids"

  • @zantetsu666 the fuck are you talking about?

  • @zantetsu666 Why are you having this argue in this song. this song is the essence of life... and those alessana and MCR are just little actions figures in a game that we call Trends... THis son is eternal.

  • @zantetsu666 Why are you having this argue in this song. this song is the essence of life... and those alessana and MCR are just little actions figures in a game that we call Trends... THis song is eternal.

  • and for the Emo`s... to make them happy "we should keep true screamo bands like saetia, envy, or funeral diner as screamo, because otherwise people will continue saying bullshit like My chemical romance is emo, Alesana is Screamo etc..."

  • "...bands that go for the money and bands that play for the souls... i just wanna keep that separated...

and who knows maybe next year post rock becomes the new "emo" for companies and the? same discution will start all over, but it will be the same, fabrication versus real..."

  • sigur ros is sigur ros, that's all.

  • their music is great when you hear 3 or 4 songs, but after a while the string trick with the guitar becomes gimicky

  • this is emo??????????

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What a fucking stupid whoever said that.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah.. i agree.. with comment below me...

  • my only love...jonsi

  • unici....

  • I'm glad I don't know what he's saying

  • BAMM BAMM BAMM

  • The barbwire returns in my mouth, ripping an old healed wound My soul has grown rusty The electricity is gone I want to cut And slice myself to death But lacking courage, I shut myself off instead I'm alone again ---------------- Reading the lyrics of this song completely changed my conception of Jónsi. I feel more sympathy of him now,
  • @imaloserhavenolife wow, I would have never expected that to be the lyrics

  • @imaloserhavenolife i've read in a number of places that there are very few actual words in his lyrics, but it's what he calls "hopelandic", which is almost all an imaginary language with some derivatives of english and icelandic thrown in. i don't think they're real lyrics.........where did you hear these were the lyrics?

  • absolutely fantastic

Do someone know any band even similar?

    AWESOME!!

  • @bodubogaucho album leaf, amiina....they're all icelandic and mates.

  • semplicemente fantastici!!!!

  • WOW!!! who the hell call this emo?? Way off. This band is like Radiohead, One in a Million. They have their own sound.Amazing band.

  • Haha! Only 10 people gave this video a thumbs down. It's still a lot [for Sigur Rós] in my opinion. But funny.

  • is it real that in one CD they do not have Lyrics? that's just nonsense Melodies??

It's really ODD and Different, that makes it so cool

and their Language it's just so weird... I thought that Finnish was the most Difficult but this really won xD

  • @36428543 You gotta point out that majority of lyrics is jsut jibberish or how jonsi puts it, iicelandic baby talk. The rest of lyrics is iclandic and lil bit of english here and there.

  • is there a dvd of this show?

  • @musicshake , there is a DVD titled HEIMA. It chronicles their tour throughout Iceland where they travel to various towns and stage free shows. Part travelogue, part documentary/concert series. It's really incredible.

  • @beefknuckles yes i got it and i love it

  • Nice

  • huh, is it just me, or are the lyrics different after "aftur með gaddavír"?

  • What do you mean? Like after that sentence? Or verse?

  • no there name was aqually sigurney rose named after jonse"s neice i think that was born the same time that the band was formed to my knoledge anyway .but on other acount this is i think there finest peice darkly hipnotic

  • Man i can feel you about their effect .. but if they are darkly or heavenly is a big subject .. hearing them makes me feel ok ..

  • @Glaros21 What a fatuous statement. It is the least important subject there is.

  • @lithium Some times m8, connecting with the "just is" can lift you up. Which is the most important issue here?

  • song is soooo rexling.

    i effin love it

    =D

  • really you think so? I think this its one of theyr least relaxing songs, idk just has so much tension in it, its a great song

  • Once backstage he signed an autograph for a girl who was like "i love you.. your music speaks to me..." etc. After she walked away he looked at the crown and remarked 'dumb bitch'. Greatest moment of my life.

Sigur-ros stands for victory ros. In their early career they did speak their native tongue.

  • It's quite strange to call that way a person, who appreciates what he's done. If it's true - big minus for him.

  • This is the show in Philadelphia from 2001, simply amazing.

I can't decide which version is better, since the studio version is more soothing and this one more aggressive, but they're both great!

  • i´m diggin the agressiveness, but i agree, i couldnt tell wich i like best... both cut right thru my soul

  • These guys are to music what the impressionists and surrealists are to art.

  • not just any artist, they can be a renoir, carravagio or a monet. one of the greatest.

  • it is the atmosphere that creates the beauty of Sigur Ros (best band nowadays) The lyrics doesnt bother

its the beauty of their atmosphere

    love you Sigur Ros

  • better than the recorded version

    absolutely amazing

  • it's funny how people love sigur ros but never pay attention to its hidden message and deep meaning behind.

maybe if you were locked up in a cage and want to slice yourself to death, you would truly get their music.

  • true that sir....

  • New Batteries Barbwire Stapled In My Mouth That Bleeds Me Locked In A Cage Naked Animals Beat Me And A Savior Knocks An Untamed Puts In New Batteries And Charges Once Again (X4) We Set Off Into The Unknown Until We Destroy Everything And Are Dominant Once Again (X3) Once Again In The Back Where We Fuck (Ride) Again The Barbwire In My Mouth That Rips Up An Old Healed Wound Have Become A Rusty Soul
  • wow

  • The Electricity Is Gone

    I Want To Cut

    And Slice Myself To Death

But I Don’t Have The Courage

    I Rather Turn Myself Off

    I’m Alone Again

  • This song is actually in icelandic, not vonlandish. So it has real lyrics.

  • Vonlenska, also known as Hopelandic. The fact that it's considered by them to be language would, I guess, make it lyrics.

I think it sounds amazing as well. So, powerful lyrics!

  • this is not a fantasy language from the

singer I speak it!! It is icelandic:)

  • Yeah, sorry, this song is in Icelandic, which happens to be a real language.

  • Amazing song with powerful lyrics, awesome performance of it too

  • 我真得好喜歡這首

    好夢幻 好好聽的旋律

  • Ive seen many concerts in my day, and Sigur Ros is still and probably always will be the best.

  • absolutely amazing

  • Gods...I'm getting chills!! This is even more amazing than on the CD...the bass is stronger here and Jonsi's guitar has a fuller sound.

  • totally their best period.

  • Greatness..

  • They came to Aussie last year... I'm so disappointed I didn't know about that... T_T

  • nooo.... same here.

  • Fantastic.

  • Amazing, hard to believe they keep getting better. Saw them in NY in '08 , best show i've ever seen , I've seen enough to blow your mind! Truly a band to go down in history as elite , greatest of this generation...

  • suddenly...i fly.

    ouh jonsi...bawa aku terbang sama2!

  • They're fantastic live. Have to see them again when they come to Finland.

  • No mames Sigur Ros es otro pedo poca madre diria yo estos weyes todo lo que tocan es una obra de arte musical

  • èh? cosa? non capisco...

  • It's not emo. It's theatrical. It's very dramatic thus evoking alot of emotional responses. Sigur Ros can't be classified as "emo" or anything else for that matter. Nor can they be compared to any other. They are in a league of their own.

  • @Franundrum theyre postrock actually.

  • @Franundrum also i don't really see any reason for doing that

  • @Franundrum : Couldn't agree more...

  • amazing...

  • I think that this music is kind of emo music. Not like those modern shits like MChR or Tokio Hotel, this is what has to be called real emo, strong and emotional music like old emo bands from 90s.

Please, before you'll call me a motherfucker or something else, search what the real emo means.

  • i wouldnt say its emo, i mean ofcourse its emotional, but i would rather use the word emo for crybabies with makeup and shit.

  • This is different from the 90s emo bands though. This is vastly different from bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and Mineral and the Get Up Kids. This evokes alot of emotion from the listener however I would classify it more as ambient than emo. The definition for ambient is that it evokes an "atmospheric" feeling and I believe Sigur Ros very much does that

  • This is post rock. End of...

  • ...

Clearly, you have no idea what emo means.

"emo" is short for "emotive hardcore".

Unless you want to try to make the argument that Sigur Ros's music is hardcore punk, I don't think you can really support that opinion (mentioning Tokio Hotel as emo is also laughable).

  • jonsiiiiiiiiiii

  • I hate the crowd. I bet they were expecting some fall out boy shit. Sigur Rós rapes. I love them.

  • haha words i never thought i'd hear: 'Sigur Ros rapes'

  • Well, they do.

  • Now, this is the Sigur Rós that I love.

The emotion in this song is simply unfathomable.

    Brilliant.

  • a-w-s-o-m-e

  • ..-e-...

  • He did every night, I think. It bounced off my finger tips in Wolverhampton, couldn't quite hang on. Gutted! :-D

  • Sorry mate. Im a huge fan. Would never sell it.

  • Ok ta, he did the same thing thurday night.

  • Saw them friday night. They were unreal, best gig of my life. I managed to get the cello bow that jonsi broke+through into the crowd.

  • You want to sell that?

  • saw them last night quite literally the best gig i have ever been too.The support band were also very very good but the crowd didnt really seem to be into the whole post rock thing. was a bit of a shame but the crowd eventually got going. the special effects were incredible as well, the whole waterfall on stage and the confetti not to mention the sepia images of the band somehow morphing into something else. anyway enough rambling on.:

  • they were freeking awesome last night man, yeah i agree the crowd were a bit lifeless, me and my mate started jumping at the second song and saegplour, hope i spelt that right, but loads of the crowd werent really feeling it. yeah for a minor reflection were brilliant as well.

    Loved everything about that gig.

  • I saw them yesterday in Luxembourg. one of the best concerts I've ever seen... amazing, beautiful, unfortunately much too short.

  • How long did it last for? Did they play many songs from previous albums? Takk etc? Going to see them tomorrow night.

  • they played approx. 100 minutes. I think, there were only 3-4 songs from the new album and at least 2 from the Takk-album. but you can find their setlist via google. ;-)

  • I am seeing them tomorrow night at Alexandra Palace, cannot wait!!!!

  • I love you, jónsi! Amazing!!

Whithout having any idea what he was singing about i had a feeling... which was right. Of course this music is mainly influencing cause of the "How" not the "What"... all together : true art. Masterwork.
