Here in Toronto it's effortless to catch one. I just go by the plaza and after 5 minutes of throwing bread crumbs there will be literally 200 pigeons around you and some even on you. The seagulls here attack the school kids for their food getting extremely close.
I remember picking up pigeons all the time when I was small and putting them back down but they wouldn't fly away they'd just continue looking for crumbs.
The pigeons by me don't like to be handled, but if you feed them a little, then hold your hand out with crumbs or whatever in they swarm around you and perch on your hand. My little sister loves it when they do =)
I was young I used to lay on beach and cover with a towel and wait for pigeon land then I flip with a towel on few pigeons some escape but I caught 2 pigeons. then I show my friend and my mom and I release 2 of them.
I caught a pigeon like that before, and it gave me parasites in my arm, little disgusting worms that lived under my skin, took 2 weeks to get rid of them with medicine, no joke!
