  • I prefer this system than anything that use rotating turbines of any type...this more in tune with marine life. Keep up with the green work.

  • People really aren't giving fish enough credit in this debate.

  • I think theres a way to block them out but allow water to come through. place a net around the turbines thats tight, but not touching turbines.

  • I wouldn't say that was massively practical. If you put any sort of net in water it will get stuff caught in it. Be it weed which would stop the flow to the blades, or just fish! Plus any net getting caught around a turbine could cause it to completely stop working, and potentially cost a lot to fix. Nice idea! It would need some details worked in to make it work I reckons. Have you heard of anyone doing that? I would be interested who was doing it if you had.

  • well, one way is to make the nets very strong and keep them tight be away from blades.

man i wish i could draw it on youtube, it would make so much more sense then simply talking

  • @dangermackie ditto, if the debris collected inside the net that were place in front of the turbine would cause low pressure region between the net & turbine. Seriously affecting the turbine's efficiency. In this case the the bioSTREAM does not need any of the shrouds, nets & what not, because its not a rotating turbine but an fish motion to generate power & not susceptible to clogging.

  • also: you know that slow movement doesn't necessarily mean low energy. You can have a slow movement with lot of power transformed into fast movement with less power by a simple array of gears.

  • Seems an odd design, the thing has to slow down and stop before reversing directions. It would seem to be more efficient to just use a turbine.

  • Sure, but I think its blades would endanger sea creatures.

And if you put a net shelter to protect them from the turbine, that would be occluded in little time by seaweeds.

  • I really want electricity more than I care about a few sea creatures. So let's just not put them anywhere there's endangered species.

  • We are seeing where that not caring attitude is heading us all.

Lets change it from now, at least for new ideas.

Maybe it's time we think at the consequences ahead of our actions.

So if there is a way to get free renewable power without side effects for anyone I think that's the right way to go.

What's more: I think a turbine would be more exposed to being worn. But I'm just guessing here.

  • I had a thought about anchors, It seems to be that those would be prone to catching anchors, I think the water surface would have to be contaned with bouys and what not to keep anchors from breaking them

  • Simply place them in areas where there is no fishing, or too deep for small boats' anchors to get to...

I like this system, seems to be easy going with its environment, demand little maintenance, relatively easy to install, pretty much provides constant energy... well done!
