  • This was my very first 45 when I was 5 years old...I am OLD!

  • Me too Nov 15. :-( of all the songs from '77, this one had to be it..... boring. Sorry guys

  • This was the number one song on the US Billboard when I was born November 13, 1977. Maybe the title is a sign for me.

  • @Dodgerfn5 You are one day younger than I.

  • @sfldrtracr That's wild 11-12-77. But then again there are 7 billion people worldwide and there's bound to be a few with my exact birthday and year.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever!! I'll never be too old to listen to it!

  • I remember the movie with DeDe Conn you lip sink this song. And she (DeDe) really did a masterful job. Thanks for posting.

  • An amazing, beautiful and powerful voice!! A timeless classic.

  • i had to sing this for 8th grade graduation:)

  • awesome!

  • Great voice.

  • I have ALWAYS LOVED this song and Debby;s voice--so pure--so true. Something which for MANY YEARS you do not hear anymore. The so called Pop "singers" need a lot of "help" (electronics, synthesizers) to make them sound okay. The vast majority of REAL voices are in the Country music genre and others. BUT CERTAINLY NOT in Rap, which is NOT singing in the remotest resemblance of a voice!!

  • Great song loved this since I was a little kid.

  • Great voice for this song .

  • This is a beautiful song....it comes from the heart, the woman singing is fully dressed with NO SIGN OF sexual content, nor disgrace to the female community thank you for posting this.

  • I remember this song when I was 7. And the movie featuring it. Tell you the truth, I got here looking for a clip of the The Jeffersons, where George is in a recording studio singing this song with flare. As he's singing with gusto, Louise (Weezy) is being assaulted in the background. Classic! Still, glad I watched this vid.

  • @tongerator --George & Weezy may they R.I.P....

  • This song touched me at so many levels, I don't even know where to start.

  • some years ago i saw debbie do this song, but with deaf childeren singing in signe language,it was so moving id love to see it again

  • Yes you're right ... 1977

  • Class, beauty, talent; shes everything lady duh duh isnt.

  • 20 people have nobody who light up their lives.

  • @singingindark12 Hahahahaha

    Pretty clever remarl, pal.

  • one of my favourite songs.I remember I heard it when I was a teenager. It brings me memorys... and it brings me to tears

  • Have not heard this in like forever Such a pretty song no matter what way you take song its a beautiful love song!

  • This was the #1 song the day I was born. Lame!

  • I soooo loved this song as a kid growing up, and today, it still gives me a vibe, but I just thought I was at a church.....

  • I didn't really care for '70s hair, but it looks great on her.

And a truly iconic song of the time. Not a big fan of a lot of '70s music, but again here's an exception.

  • ONE OF THE FAVORITES OF MARGE & HOMER SIMPSON! ‎(*´ο`*)AAAWWW...!

  • She may be the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Maybe not. But certainly her rendition of this song puts her over the top as the most beautiful woman on earth.

  • My mom was in highschool when this song came out , and she sang this for Marching Band class. She walked down the stairs in school colors and sang this in front of the student body , she says she always idolized Debbie Boone.

  • esta faltando musicas do marrathans

KISS AND SAY GOOD BYE ENTRE OUTRAS INESKECIVEIS

  • Lo único bueno de los gringos... ¡son las gringas! <3

  • I was 13 also when this song came out and my sister got the 45. Heard it at least five times a day just from her alone. I have to say, after all these years, I still love this song!!!

  • This song sucked I was a kid and still sucks.

  • Jeffrey Dahmer told a court psychiatrist that he would rape, dismember, and cannibalize his victims while he blasted this very song on his stereo; it was Jeffs fave.

  • @GraveyardGhost559 lol you serious?

  • @GraveyardGhost559

    U R an ASS

  • @RosieCruz --Wanna go out on a date with me?

  • @GraveyardGhost559 .. Thanks man, You just killed this song for my Girl! Jeffery killed someone in her family!!!

  • @thds699 --What was the victims name?

  • @GraveyardGhost559 Why did you need to share that info. yuck dude!

  • My GOD !!!! Ive been saying this is the best version of this song anc countless singers have tried to do it from aretha franklin , whitney houston even boy zone they all fall short as far as im concerned but gee Debbie Boone is also the most gorgeous thing ... I think im in love lolololol

  • I was 13 yrs old when this came out and I got so tired of hearing it played on almost every radio station and tv variety show! Now, I listen to it for the first time in more than 30 years and I look back and wish that I was 13 again and still slow dancing, with my date, at our 7th grade school dance!

  • @JimiBLong .......AMEN!! I was 12 when it came out (turned 13 in December) and at first I was tired of it too but it eventually grew on me. The 70's were great....... music-wise, the TV programs back then, girls with LONG hair, tube tops, tight bell bottoms, etc.

Trivia: The song was released on August 16, 1977 - the day Elvis died.

  • one hit wonder

  • Amazing song, I love this xxx May I dedicate this to the one who loves me xxxxxxxx

  • Oh god. I was 17 when this song came out. If it played 1,000 times in one day on the radio, that's not an exaggeration. Everyone was singing it at every event. In church, at weddings, at school functions, holy cow man.

  • @minkymott Well, you were lucky. I was 36 so that tells you how old I am! Curses.

  • @minkymott NO, that is definitely not an exaggeration! :) I was in first grade, and I remember hearing this song as often as every 15 mins on the radio. It's like it became an anthem, or something. THE song of 1977.

  • @snoops71 I too was in 1st grade in 1977 and next to Star Wars this song was the biggest thing going. Debbie Boone was all over TV and radio. You literally could not get away from this song.

  • @Warpigpen That is so very true! :) It was always there.

  • Beatiful song!!!so many memories

  • she looks beautiful, and good song. 70's a great decade.born in 1970, and the memerioes of childhood cant be beat. people got along in that decade the most out of every single decade.camping , magic mountain ,remember travel village next to magic mountain going camping in tents. sorry u young kids. u got rough times ahead.

  • Who's this new singer ?

  • @christian4ever4 New?? This is the original 1977 song by Debbie Boone, 10 weeks at #1 in 1977, thank you very much.

  • @ ajax420336 and sormu16 Brooks was arrested on charges of raping 11 young actresses whom he lured to his apartment with the promise of movie roles. He was awaiting trial on 82 counts of sexual abuse. Do you think all 11 of those random girls got together to conspire against him? Get a grip!!! His own son is on trial for murdering his girlfriend, if you don't think that family has issues with women you must be an idiot and there is no reasoning with you after all ...

  • @travellinman321 You're the one who needs to get a grip. Maybe you shouldn't go believing every wild rumor you hear about someone just because they're famous.

    I'll pray for you.

  • @travellinman321

the problem with trusting american rape claims against a celebrity claims is, that any accuser has a great chance for a huge amount of money. In case there has been a sexual relationship and if the woman feel cheated and sour, it is a very easy claim, which can never be disproven.

  • I almost had forgotten the song. I still love it

  • Joseph Brooks died, author of''You Light Up My Life" (R.I.P.)

  • Wow! Debbie Boone is beautiful!!!!!

  • Unforgettable song and gift to all :)

    Much Love,

    Chris in Indy

  • This song is to my baby. You do Light Up my Life :) I enjoy every monument with you Rico. I love you. It has been a long time my heart has soared high :)

  • guy who wrote it killed himself today...

  • @gtijerino First we lose Macho Man, then Joey Brooks. It's been a tough week for America. In fact, I would venture to say we have gone through more difficulties this year than any other country in the world.

RIP Joe Brooks, truly a fine human being and paragon of American song writing.

  • beautiful song beautiful lady!!!!

  • beautiful song beautiful lady!!!!!

  • i used to have someone like that.. too sad its over..

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! Im singing it at a wedding today :)

  • Debbie you are the daughter of our Great Pat Boone. WHAT talent your whole famlly had. I know when my daddy alive Debbie's mommy came along to camp grounds with the 101 ranch boys; My daddy and other musicians would come to these times of singing and sharing music and the Foley Gals were there too. My Aunty had pics of those times; I cherish seeing them from time to time. LOVE you Debbie and wish you the best in life. YOU sure cheered up our lives with song. <3 YOU Dearly.XXXOOO :-))))

  • Thank you for posting. I could listen to this song sung by this beautiful and talented singer forever. Debby is fantastic.

  • I first heard this song in the episode of The Simpsons called "I Married Marge". Homer and Marge sing it in the car and it's such an up-lifting song! Love it!

  • Sooo many nights, I sit by by my Window waiting for someone...

  • This song was hated and disrespected by so many people. I don't get it. Such a beautiful song.

  • debby is a beautiful woman and singer, love her voice, saw her in concert a number of times

  • sing me "his" or "with" song?

  • Absolutely beautifully sung it is hard to believe she's singing LIVE .,,,,those were the days when they had singers with natural talent

  • hallelujah!

  • This is how my daughter Danielle makes me feel each and every day. Love you more than life all my love and more mum xxxxxx

  • this song was number 1 for 10 weeks. only great songs last that long at the top.awsome wedding song too.

  • I don't make this sort of comment often but when I turned on my computer today I somehow was prompted to view a snippet of Brittney Spear's new "song" and video. Tarted up like a platinum blonde hooker who can barely "sing"a note in a voice that resembles a sort of raspy whispered "rap", I can't help but compare the simple and true beauty, abiding faith, the class and enduring talent of Debbie Boone. The difference between the two is measured in light years.

  • @paqumike

Well said! Debbie is not only a class singer of her time, but has that natural beauty that melts your heart when you watch and listen this video! again good shout!

  • Is she Pat Boone's daughter?

  • yes

  • She didn't sing this song in the movie but sure did one hell of a job with it. The original singer thought she would cut the single but they wouldn't give it to her. Her statement read, Good luck Debby because you will never be able to top this performance and she was right.

  • A nice song sung from the heart. In my opinion, it doesn't happen that often. You can see, and feel, her joy in singing it.

  • Wonderful song! Great!

  • youuuu liight upp my LAMP

  • This song for Debbie was a love song to her Lord.. that is what makes the difference between when she sings it and others do. When it came out in the secular music world I like most others just thought it an amazing love song.. \o/

  • this song, is the one i used to request when i am with SHIRLY OPIASA,the girl that came in my life so swiftly, and gone like a wind.Mhine, you knew that our love was true, but i am tied to someone else hands, that is why i dont have the right to hold you. I knew that you love me too, but its all in vain, nonetheless, please know, my love for you will still be as long as there is this song YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE.

  • Very nice song it's greatly appreciated.....you know Jesus can light up our life -

  • John Records Landecker was wrong. This DIDN'T suck then, and, it DOESN'T suck now. Billboard's 475th #1 hit of the rock era. Gotta agree with ya, lyvost! I'm a Christian, too. Bless ya, my brother, or sister!

  • God lightes up my life! He came along and sang me a song...He said HEY "I love You!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!

  • i love this song...she sings it the best...there is so much beautiful feeling flowing through her voice...so precise on each detail..emphasizing each word with such beautiful vibration...Thank You...

  • My all time favorite-I sang to my Hubby when we were married in 1999.

  • This song was, like, the only song playing on the radio when I was a little kid and it is engrained in my head. Still know every word and remember when they did it on the Oscars. The film, of course, was awful with poor Didi being dubbed by Debby. Her dad, Pat, if you ever see the 60's film version of "State Fair" was no Christian singing dove when he was schtopping Annn-Margret and is half nude, and looking good, too. Her talent comes from him. Shame he went on the religious kick and sunk.

  • Sweetheart, i do hope that your refering to me in this song. Cos id just die if you wher.

  • it's not who writes the words, it's who MEANS them.

  • @SimonCowellAI Wow, i have never heard a more poignant statement. Thank you, joey cribb

  • Debbie still sings like an angel. I remember listening to her

during the conflict of Iran & Iraq in the 1980's. I'm an American with family

dated here since 1732. Whenever Debbie sang this song, I looked

at the American Flag tattoed on my arm..and loved it. I don't care who sings it,

  • One of the best songs ever written, but sang by an aweful singer, Debby Boone has no vocal. Kasey Cisyk sang it better!!!!

  • @leretour23 We all have favorite singers, but to insult another singer because he or she is not the favorite is nothing more than stupid bias.

  • very touching!

  • My wife ( also a Debi ) sang this song to me during our wedding a little more than 25 years ago! I remember that to me at that moment she sounded just as good as Miss Boone. Both ladies are still at the top of all my lists. I'm 53 years young and my wife still sings to my heart every day. Thanks baby I'm a very lucky man!

Happy husband in Sugar Tit, South Carolina.

  • @sc6chuck9 OMG that is such a sweet story...true romance...*sigh*

  • @sc6chuck9 I love to hear things like that....what a beautiful memory that you still share....I hope for many many more years to come!! congratulations!!

  • @sc6chuck9 Sugar Tit?

  • @sc6chuck9 ..U ONE LUCKY DUDE...WISH ME THE SAME LUCK IN LIFE, I THOUGHT I HAD IT...BUT.....

  • @rexrockandroll , you got it boss,,,,I wish everyone could be as looking in love as I have been.

  • @sc6chuck9

This song was meant for God - not a lovers love song - a love song to our Lord.

  • @RosieCruz . No it was written by Brooks as a love song.. debbie said she wanted to sing it for god! get it right!!

  • oh and he has a name and it is not the Lord! learn it!!

  • Everybody always doen't have the same taste, but if you ask me & you probably

won't, but to me this is a beautiful song & sung from the heart. JESUS is the light

of my life & as some of our mom's have tought us with manners. IF YOU CAN'T

SAY ANYTHING NICE DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!. Try listening to the words

with an open heart & mind. Perhaps you'll find light & love there. HIS name is

Jesus the Christ the son of God. Peace be with you. Thank you Debbie your

    song lights up my life.

  • beautiful song, done beautifully by her, she is lovely, and she has a beautiful smile.

  • Comment removed

  • her mouth. I love her mouth. she doesn't even have perfect teeth - it's all real.

  • This stinks! If she could sing it in tune, it would be only barely acceptable, but SHE CAN'T!!

  • @carlyn65

Let's hear YOU sing it in better tune. If you can do it, and post it to YouTube, I will subscribe to your channel. Your rendition, sweetie!

  • Cheesy. This song makes me feel like I'm gagging on that goo they fill Twinkies with. Then the strings come in, and it just adds that extra impulse to hurl a stomach-load of Twinkie-goo all over my laptop.

  • i was in grade 2 when this song was a big hit...i still love it until now.

  • I would totally hit that

  • No one compare her

  • Comment removed

  • This is my most favorite song in the world!!!!!

  • @billthechief Get a grip. Debby's rendition of this song spent 10 weeks as #1 on the charts. That's because MILLIONS of people loved it. You've been overruled. Go back to bed and maybe your negative attitude will improve a little.

  • So nice to hear a real song with a great singer singing it

  • wow Im cryng, great song

  • Debby must be the best looking singer ever! She makes Olivia Newton John look like a skank in comparison.

  • 美しい人が、美しい歌を歌えば美しい心になる。
