  • Obviously a solid tour swing. Great contact.

The lines point to the golfer keeping behind the ball.

It's time to stop teaching that....

The guys from stack and tilt have the idea about where to be upon impact.

Of course staying behind will allow more angle upon impact like a baseball player hitting a home run but itis a matter of consistancy verses the occassional bomb.

    Your choice.

  • @TheUnGolfPro There is no reason being ahead of the ball will make someone more consistent. Ernie Els has never had a problem with consistency.

  • cayrul, you are right about that.

  • Is this at Harbour Town number 15??

  • anyways...i think the most determining factor in golf is not the driving, but the short plays, like the 8,9 irons, chipping and pitching. if u can be good at that, ull already be at the 18 and below handicap for sure

  • Yup but tell that to most of the hacks you see at the range. They'll barely touch their middle irons but you can bet they'll be swinging a wood 80-90 percent of the time mixed in with some chipping and putting practice for the rest.

  • i was only saying that since you said "perfect drive" and in Golf there is no perfect swing/drive. IMO you're right driving isn't everything but still, nowadays in tournaments if you miss the fairway you're struggling to save par; for normal everyday golfing the courses are set up easy. Also IF i were to have a say, it would be PUTTING that is the most determining factor in golf. not just the short irons or chipping and pitching.

  • well...being ONE of THE best is good enough for me?

  • he may have a good swing or even the "best" but we all know it takes more than a good swing to be the best.

  • Sure we do but that's not the point of this thread.

  • Well, no matter what anyone thinks of Els' ability as a golfer, I'm glad you posted this video. There aren't many videos of this great golf swing to be found anywhere.

  • Not to say that you shouldn't emulate his swing. It's a great swing to emulate for anyone. Like I said, the positions he gets into in his swing are textbook.

  • That's what I'm getting at. I'm sure to all the swing doctors out there, Els is the new Hogan.

  • at the stage that im in right now...im focusing more on consistency rather than distance...

  • Excellent. That's the right approach. As long as you build on solid fundementals, you'll have a much easier time working on distance. Just remember the saying: "Drive for show, putt for dough."

  • ??? Where do you see that he's not consistent? Also, his speed is actually conducive to consistency. How do you figure otherwise?

  • Well if you look at his driving accuracy stat, it's actually quite low compared to a lot of tour pros. He ranks not that much higher than Tiger in driving accuracy...right arond 150th.

  • Not really a telling stat considering that for 05 he missed almost 5 months due to an injury.

  • No doubt, a model for consistency. Not the longest hitter though.

  • So what? In 2005 his longest drive in a PGA event was 396. On average, he hits his driver around 300 yds. For my money, he hits it long enough. So you'd rather hit long than consistent?

  • Actually, I checked the PGA tour stats...he is quite long. Not quite as consistent as you may think though but you can't be at his speed. I don't know if anyone in golf gets in better positions than he does though.

  • Thing of beauty. Trying my darndest to emulate his swing by watching his videos and reading his books. So far, I'm 80% there. Gotta work a little more on the release.

  • wow, what a great swing! Thanks for sharing!

  • how i wish i could make a swing like that...
