Fuck you Ron Kershaw. You drove Jessica to her early demise by beating the shit out of her and getting her hooked on cocaine. Kershaw you bastard motherfucker. Hope you're rotting in hell.
@DNSKansas He may be rotting in hell. He died from liver and pancreatic cancers in late 1989. He has a son working who is a cameraman at his old broadcaster WBAL in Baltimore.
@Freezer818 LOL...Well to the Chinese the old high power saline needle in the womans belly was far cheaper and more male friendly so the Male Pill never saw the light of day.
Ahhh, that golden smile! Jessica, oh Jessica, we all love you so. I can't imagine how hard it was for her to break into the industry during her time. She was told a female would never anchor the nightly news. She did a lot for women in journalism/broadcasting, and to this day I don't think she's given the credit she deserves for that. Sure, she had problems. Who doesn't? She WAS trusted to deliver the news. She WAS well liked. She IS missed. ~ R.I.P., Jessica Savitch ~
don't worry hon, I've been taking the pill(yea right!)
A network devoting 2+mins to news updates between programs? That's gone wayside blue, never to return. (Seems I remember nbc said they thought it would increase ratings for their news progs...don't remember if progs such as Dateline (or abc's 20/20) back in1979 tried or pretended to have actual news-worthy content. Don't recall when they gave up pretending, became 'tv movie of the week' fare
She looks and sounds fabulous here! She was on top of her game...if you watch later clips from 82-83, you can see life was taking it's toll on her. Network news can be a brutal way to make a living.
I love this lady! She reported on the flood of '79 in Jackson, MS when I was only 7 years old. You could see the beautiful homes that emphasized the beautiful of our state, and not hick-town country-bunkin place of the south. RIP Ms. Savitch!
@robatsea2009 her car flipped over into a muddy canal ever since her, tv news producers have this fetish that tv anchor women have to have bleached blonde hair diane sawyer was miss junior miss
@jessica56786789 She was driving out of a restaurant parking lot after dark. She drove out the wrong driveway and it turned out to be a narrow road next to a canal. She couldn't see exactly where she was going because of the weather and drove into the canal. The car flipped over and she was unable to get out.
@zuzupetals1999 Actually she wasn't driving, her boyfriend at the time Martin Fischbein was and it was suspected that he accidentally went down the wrong road which lead to their unfortunate accident in the canal. It was stated much later that her body was found in the back of the car in a position that looked like she was struggling to get out of the submerged vehicle.
I can see the similarity between Jessica Savitch and Veronica Corningstone from "Anchorman". Apparently Will Ferrell wrote the part based on Jessica and her struggles in a male dominated profession back in the day.
She's still the benchmark for me among major network news anchors. When I think news I think of her before Rathers, Cronkite, Brinkley, and certainly any of the buffoons anchoring news today. At her peak, she just "had it". But she was so driven she burned out early and then the tragic end to her life just as she had apparently found happiness. One of the most beautiful women ever, too.
I remember her when she was in Philly, and then she moved to work nationally for NBC. I had some fantasies about her,I thought she was the prettiest tv reporter on channel 3,besides Beverly Williams back many years ago. It was an unfortunate tragedy that happened to her.
She had a glorious voice.

I seem to remember it was a drowning in an automobile. If I am not mistaken it was a wrong turn during a rain storm into a canal in New Hope, PA.
