Oh sorry forgot to add....upgrading to 7 from XP is great. People have been getting the RC to run on old XP machines with RAM as low as 512 MB as MS wants 7 to run on netbooks as well. Do not be afraid to try W7 as Vista may have been a heartache. BTW revivedone what size is your MacBook? I am an HP man myself but I gotta say aluminum bodies are very snazzy.
Um how about try running the release candidate for awhile. Most of the tech community actually likes it, it is very stable, compatible with everything currently out there which was not the case when Vista came out, and overall is really a great step in the right direction. How about you try it before you flame it first.
I have 3 copies of Windows 7, including build 7260 which is one of the more recent builds, tested on my hard drive, removed it, but I still have it in Vmware. So next time, don't make foolish assumptions. I'm not saying that Windows 7 is not any better than Vista because it is, I'm just saying that both suck and no, I don't like OS X or Linux either, yeah, I know, it sucks. I shouldn;'t have a system on which I have to worry about viruses and potential hackers or spyware.
And with OS X I shouldn't have to worry if that cool hardware is compatible and with Linux I shouldn't have to read dumb outdated techdocs to get some random codec working (plus the millions of other things wrong wth Linux) or how to install/run the best commercial software without issues.
I have a quick question, will this wipe my laptop clean? I.E. all my files get deleted, and the laptop will start again as if it were "Brand New, Straight out of the box"? I have all my files backed up on my external hard drive, but am wondering if it will all get deleted off my laptop.
In Windows Vista you can drag the gadgets all over the desktop too. Windows 7 Beta doesn't come with programs like Windows Movie Maker, which is why it is about 9 GB instead of Vista's 10+GB. Windows 7 also has the same internal system as Vista, and it's been tested as 5% slower. I really didn't like the new taskbar because you can't see all your open windows at once without alt+tab, which I find annoying to use. The new Windows Explorer is also a big copy of the Finder, which is a bummer for
old Windows users who are used to Windows explorer's way of organizing their files. Also, the preloaded drivers are probably just a waste of space, since it can't hold drivers for everyone, else it would be much larger. Also, it clearly will not work on netbooks or lower powered PCs, so Windows XP will still have to sell on netbooks unless the final version of windows 7 fixes this. Oh and I didn't install this on my Mac because Windows Vista overheats it, does windows 7 overheat your Mac?
I haven't used windows 7 extensively but I have not had any issue of it overheating my machine. Granted I do use a laptop coolers and have my fans set to a minimum of 3000rpm's.
Well in that case, just to warn you, that's not good for your fans. I used to control my fans with SMCFanControl and after a couple of months, I went to Apple and asked them to check up my system. When it came back, they replaced both fans. So yea.. I don't think you should mess with what the system decides to set them at.
Thanks for the input. I always knew it was worse then a slower speed but I would rather have worn out fans as apposed to a dead cpu due to extreme heat.
Well the CPU has Intel heat sensors built into it which will forcibly kick up the fans when needed. I find that it usually goes to 3000RPM at 70 degrees, and if it remains 70+, the fans spin to 6000RPM. 70 degrees is fine for your CPU, so I think it's best to let the sensor do its stuff. I keep iStat Menus running in order to check in on the heat and fan speeds just to make sure though.
Well before from when I used to manually adjust the speed of the fans, even setting the fans at 4000RPM, it would stay at 70. Oh and what laptop cooler do you use?
I got the beta too. Not so bad coming from a Mac point of view. Im not really a fan of Windows but 7 seems promising. It has a lot of user friendly features and the entire user interface of 7 looks quite nice. The only thing Windows have to make sure its that the OS as a whole is very stable.

Uh release candidates are basically the final build, not betas. They added a bit more after the beta.

Lame features all around. Not impressed in the least with the junk they've added since Windows XP (aside from the search feature)

Yes, installing another OS will format your old hard drive (clean slate)
sliver37 3 years ago
If you mean using a mac, no.
with bootcamp assistant you create a separate partition on your hard drive which you can set the size of.
(leaving your Mac partition safe.)
but like you've done, backing up is recommended.

Great vid man.
your videos are the 1st I've seen with this high quality.
(res)
I just got a refurb mb pro (early 08) 15" 2.5.
As you mentioned, bootcamp doesn't format the partition just creates it.
thats because depending on which version of windows you install your format options are different.
XP does FAT32 and NTFS.
vista only does NTFS.

looks promising. any word of when this will be commercially released?

All we know is that it will be sometime this year.

Bromangg 3 years ago
The beta is ending in August, which means it could come out the same way Vista did, last day of december, or perhaps early 2010.
MadBoyAstro 3 years ago
Microsoft have stated that it will be released in 2010, however previous operating systems have been delayed for years.
