American schools are notorious for glossing the nastier tidbits of war, rarely ever covering more modern conflicts. In addition, the military are given the names & contact info of seniors in high school so that they can recruit them into service. That has always seemed wrong to me, & a violation of privacy. They have to sign up later for selective service at 18, so that should be enough.

I don't think it's really possible to give a completely unbiased view of anything in a school book, least of all something like a recent war. I totally agree that they should provide honest facts, but it's not really shocking or unprecedented that they presented it as they did. At least they're calling it a war and not a 'conflict' or 'initiative'.

Of course, America spends some 13 billion every month in Iraq & have nearly 4000 dead servicemen. :-/
American schools are notorious for glossing the nastier tidbits of war, rarely ever covering more modern conflicts. In addition, the military are given the names & contact info of seniors in high school so that they can recruit them into service. That has always seemed wrong to me, & a violation of privacy. They have to sign up later for selective service at 18, so that should be enough.
