Andy left, the brother got pissed and went off to Andy's house but when he got there Andy was already dead. He fired a shot to flag down the police and the corrupt lawyer and judge had a 'trial' and hung him for murder when really it was the sister who killed andy as well as the cheating wife.

The girl singing this song is Brother's sister. She knew about the cheating wife and Andy, Brother's "friend." Sister went to Andy's house and killed him, but the town thought Brother did it, so they hung him - even though he was innocent. Sis also killed the cheating wife, but hid her body ...

The night of the hanging, there was a black out, a night that everyone would remember. The "pretend trial" meant that the judge acted unjustly. There was never an investigation, and the judge knew he didn't kill Andy (blood on his hands - a metaphor). That's the main idea. A lot of people don't understand the song, and there's a few more trivial "tidbits."
