dude, you got too close!! I guide mule deer.. you gotta hold up at about 50 yards and wait him out... then when he stands up, he'll hesitate for a moment before running off... if you're much closer than that, there's no hesitation before they run.
with the mule bucks that I have stalked, 42yards is where they can feel something close to them. 4 times this year i stalked bucks, and every time I got to the 42 yard mark, they stood up. I shot my biggest at 47 yards
