how far away have you got your leds im doing my first led grow and cant decide on a height a few inch seems good doesnt burn but i also have tried 10 inch away it still seems fine but as i have nothing to compare it to would like to know what you think?

@tommo2147 I had a friend that growed this way and he moved them up about two inches per day. As long as they are close enough I do not think that it really matters. There is little or no heat so for the most part they can touch the plant with no problems. He used to use mirrors around the plants to make it even better seems that your idea would work as well.

@doughauf you should tell your friend to either use tin foil/mylar/white paint, mirrors are no good when it comes to reflecting light because they absorb 70% of the light shone into them. ;)

@meethrip Man dont use tin foil it can concentrate the light like tiny lttle lasers and burn the plant. Use mylar or paint flat white as you say. A benefit of using mylar is it blocks infrared heat so cops cant see the grow from a chopper.

bullshit cfls are great full spectrum.you can get cfls in any size..there only economical for like a 2x2 or maybe a 3x3

to all those people out there debating L.E.D.s and H.I.Ds, one question:

which would you rather use to grow in a closet, 120w L.E.D, or 125w H.I.D.? the answer will tell you which is better. cost does not matter because in the end you will pay as much if not less to by a good L.E.D. unit and get way more in return. spectrum specific lighting is the only way to save money and get a better return.

the problems with cfl's and led's is that there is no penetration. The light only services the top of the plants therefore to get the most out of them you have to have plastic netting over the plants and promote lateral growth meaning tie them to the netting and make them spread sideways so as to promote more surface area so to speak. The blue spectrum is for vegetative stage and red for flower. LED's are great but dont compare to mh or hps so the plants must be shaped to make the most of them

im not arguing with u that cfls r fantastic. my grows r a bit bigger so cfls dont cut it. the quality is just as good but they dont have a high discharge. Ok leds are better in regard to spectrum thus efficiency therefore will give great results in quality. do a simple test. grow a large crop with leds the grow a large crop with hids. im sure your quality will be great on both but the hids will outperform the cfls any day in regards to weight. leds for larger grows are just not there.... yet

the wattage has nothing to do with the drive penetration of the light photons which are the particles of light that enter the leaf to react with chlorophyll to perform photosynthesis. learn what you are talking about b4 you comment. a torch is bright but it aint going to grow a 2 pound crop in a closet for you.

cfls work great because there in the perfect light spectrum just like the sun

example 8000 kelvin ultraviolet/blue to

2700 kelvin orangish yellowish/reds

perfect..also lotsa 6500k daylight they work awesome at 26watts per sq foot for veg and 60watt per sq foot for bud under cfls..there the alternative to heat/higher bills/safety..perfect

no argument there. but hids work better for plants that are larger. if you grow lots of small plants cfls are great or scrog or sog. I cant say that I have used hi intensity leds so im not entering that argument. but for the time being hids are better for larger taller grows. im sure that is a changing though in the future

you can get a 12pack of cfls for 20bucks

and put 1 14watt light per main bud on a

large 9foot tall plant ..they can do large areas.they have 300watt cfls now as of 2010..hella bright

tie them down, cut away anything under the netting and grow your plants scrog or sog style.. then you will see the leds work best. you can also put leds under the netting which works great. Look up scrog (screen of green) and sog (sea of green) if you are unsure what im talking about. Growing them tall like this is pointless so to speak coz u have to grow too many plants as only the tops get the light penetration. Well done for the video tho and well done on showing your leds

metal halide light at walmart and 1 2700kelvin

red flowering light at home depot 68watts=300watts ?and put in about 5-6 26 watt

6500 daylight and 26watt=150watt cfls at 3bucks a piece .from walmart total price about 70.00 bucks..schults flowering ferts 10-28-54 2.97/miracle grow 19-28-10 2.97 total price under 75bucks for everything with more light

than you have now..
