  • @arcpineapple I'm not saying he wasn't great. He was amazing. But technique is something that can be taught and replicated. He had skill, not technique. If he had the best technique, it would have been able to be learned by other violinists, and there would be more like him. Rather, Heifetz had skill, an ability to play better than anyone else, and not a single way of explaining it, replicating, or teaching it to others.

  • For those wondering about her instrument, I believe it's by Paolo Albani, 1633-1680. another great student student of Nicolo Amati. I'm not rational or objective about this violinist: I love her performances, her charismatic presence, her fine musicianship; that's all I can say . . .

  • Uh.. is there any way that I could "dislike" those 13 "dislikes" ...?

  • To note: her technique works for her, and she is a master. She may have suffered a previous shoulder injury that forces her to play like that. I injured my rotator cuff a while back, and when I picked up violin, the first couple months after my recovery involved playing with a raised or dropped shoulder, whichever was more comfortable at the time. Heifitz had poor technique as well, but he could nail anything. So if she can play this piece this well with a shoulder raised, then why criticize?

  • @mochixsasuke 'Heifetz had poor technique' - where do you get that absurd idea

from? Please tell me it's not your violin teacher. Suggest you watch his Paganini 24

or Wienawski Polonaise Brillante. He had 'technique' in spades and possibly the

greatest mastery of an instrument the world has ever seen.

  • @mochixsasuke Heifetz had poor technique? Don't be ridiculous.

  • wow... I really enjoy listening and playing this piece.. but the way she plays it... I JUST LOVE IT.

  • Wonderful... beautiful but strong, she takes us in her music.

Best woman violinist ever for me.

  • damn, she has nice lats

  • she plays with heart, soul, and... and...

  • I DIDN'T like her at first...but then..... she's actually AMAZING!!

  • @esther8495 Yes. Pure heaven!

  • Wonderful. I'm speechless.

  • Obviously a wonderful violinist but I have an old recording of this concerto with Arthur Grumiaux which is in a different league, it is simply the finest intrepretation I have ever heard or am ever likely to hear!

  • @TheVaughan5 You should upload it to youtube so the rest of us may hear

  • Very pretty~ :)

    So intense!!!!!!!!!! XD

Wish they had something like this for the flute, but the violin plays so darn fast!!! Sugooooiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • Magnificent playing of this gorgeous concerto. Very spirited, I really enjoyed this, as it is one of my favorite violin concerti. Orchestra is wonderful too!

  • As far as I'm concerned and have heard so far, this belongs to the very top of violin recordings.

  • my favorite! :D

  • I really like her alot the only thing I don't understand is why does she lift her sholders so much? Is that a technique that is common? I don't know about anyone else but I was always taught that was bad

  • @YNGVIRTUOSOVIOLIST

To raise the shoulder is unorthodox , but I think she needs it for more powerful strokes. Her index finger is stretched way forward too, probably for the same reason.

Perlman can play holding the bow with two and a half fingers, but he is a giant.

Whatever the hold is, she plays really great

  • @damshek You don't actually get more power out of having your shoulder like that, but there's not point in harping on it. She's an amazing player, and there's a level of playing at which the technique is actually less important than the sound that the player achieves.

  • look at her never-ending vibrato!! this is so beautiful! :D

I love the beginning. her strokes are so clean yet powerful!

  • I can only agree. She is fantastic!

  • Amazing!!! If someone is complaining about her playing then they need to have their ears checked I'm afraid!

    Just wonderful music!

  • linda morocha...........yo la vi en Buenos Aires tocando el Tschaikovsky

  • The best saint saens 3 i heard...

  • WOW.....i bet she's been practicing this much 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 x 1,000,000,000,000 :O

  • Gorgeous. She manages to make the 'runs' delicate without losing the power and grittiness of the movement. The beginning notes always give me shivers, too. :)

    Bigheadet: Haha, me too!

onetwothreesteal: I think a completely 100% perfect performance is impossible, too- there'll always be some tiny flubs. But that is what gives the performances character, too- I actually enjoy it when I've listened to a master's performance so many times that the slubs are familiar to me. :)

  • some of the camera angles are interesting.... great performance though

  • @jyoon712

lo que es interesante es la morocha, no los ángulos de la cámara

the really interesting is the beautiful lady

  • bad....

  • bed....

  • very very good

  • To every performance, well there will be some parts people like, and some parts people don't like. No need to start biting each other just because others didn't agree with your view.

Anyways. I do hear some tiny faults, and some part I would play different...But there's no doubt she is one of the more professional violinists, to be able to play this piece. =) Truly amazing performance! Loved it!

    P.S. I've yet to hear a 100% perfect performance of any music...I mean 100%.

  • how can i have those STRONG fingers??????

  • Incredible.

  • stunning.

  • that was really flawlessssss!!!! especially the last part of the 1st movement! AMAZING xD

  • im 15 and im learning this song i think my fingers will fall off or sth

  • the bowings at 5:23... oh geez... which orchestra is this?

  • sounds amazing. i dont know crap about orchestra but if anyone has more like this let me know

  • amazing..

  • Beautiful!

    She is amazing!

  • This is the MUSIC ! <3

  • WHAT THE HELL....those last few minutes were CRAZYYYY....specially that last note......WOW....amazing piece!

  • wow the begging is amazing

  • her interpretaion is one of my favorites. It's simply glorious and very exciting. I also really ejoyed her Bruch. And concerning her posture, oviously its "bad" form, but she's found a way o make it work for her. Name me a great violinist who maintins classic posture and form.

  • @musicalyam Yehudi Menuhin has pretty damn impeccable posture...

  • @musicalyam Henryk Szeryng has a perfectly classical posture.

  • Marvelous.

  • I'm highly impressed !

  • Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana

  • Avessi una ragazza con delle spalle così non la contraddirei mai o.o'

Comunque splendida esecuzione, davvero impeccabile. Saint saens era un compositore eccezzionale!

  • I love all the Ms Marcovici´s videos.

    I´ll say : BRAVO SILVIA!

    Splendorous violinist!

    Please, come to Brazil!

  • She plays very well in this, however, her technique is shocking! She must get terrible shoulder injuries! If you watch the way she bows, her arm is so high and stiff.

  • I play like that o.o But it never gives me cramps.

  • not YET perhaps

  • I used to play like that...until I was diagnosed with arthritis in my neck and shoulder this summer.

  • How can anyone say the her technique is shocking?! Every note, every phrase is impeccable from begining to end. AND she delivers the music with true virtuosic panache! And you could not achieve that unless your technqiue is flawless! Perhaps you're thinking of "style" rather than techqniue. Many violinsists play with raised shoulders, and it is obvious that Silvia is comfortable with this. Thus it is not for us to tell her how to handle her instrument! This is a really polished performance!

  • Actually, I thought the raised shoulder detracted considerably from the phrasing of the opening. It seemed very detached, as though she played note with no regard for what surrounded it. It's also a very basic ergonomic issue. Putting one' shoulder in that position for any length of time is bad, full stop. You can call it a style, but it's also a glaring technique flaw.

  • @JiangxenPeter listen to her chord at 1:23 it's god awful.

  • @macaronimadnessx Is that the only fault you can find with her performance?

  • credo, che nessun violino suoni da solo.......magnifica esecuzione!!!

    sublime::::::

  • cavoli, questo violino si suona da sè.non fa nessun tipo di pressione e quello suona.magari avere un violino così.oppure è anche merito dell'audio...

  • love it love it. but hate when the camera comes close and staring to shake, it gives me a head ache.

  • Perfection. Love her interpretation, her expression, and her vibrato.

  • i want to be her

  • she got it right from the first note till the end. I really like this

  • mad violin skillz

  • Me encanta esta versión de Marcovici, con una seguridad, técnica y expresividad fuera de lo común, ¡enhorabuena!

  • One of my favourite Concerti. St Saens never disappoints. Ms. Marcovici's performance of this work is intense, and profound. The Orchestra is polished sounding, well balanced, and voiced properly. The Orchestra and the soloist work together as opposed to Soloist vs Orchestra. Great Synergism to get the message of the music across.

  • wow magnifique. Merci beaucoup de ce paratage

  • When was this recorded?

  • Studiez acest concert de ceva vreme,e extraordinar,e greu, dar cu munca si pasiune se rezolva!!!imi place foarte mult cum canta Silvia Marcovici!!!e romanca de-a noastra!!!se vede!!

  • Great intensity in this performance, and incredible technique. Great musicality on the solo, making it very interesting to listen to.

  • is it just me, or does her violin look really big at the beginning??? it's probably just the angle :P

  • By memory. Holy. That's amazing. One of my all time favorite classical pieces.

  • I actually don't find memorizing pieces very hard. It usually doesn't take that long. The only part I have trouble with is practicing, but after practicing a whole bunch, you'll have it in muscle memory to where you don't even have to think about it.

  • So excellent.

  • Those men who say that a woman can't play properly are those who urgently need a brain inserted. And a hearing aid.

  • have you ever been around musicians?

  • @AfroPoli People who say they "don't play properly" are.. of course full of it. HOWEVER.... there are (in general) very distinct differences between the way a man or woman plays. And this shouldn't be shocking to anyone.

  • @AfroPoli Woman have different experiences in life (menopause, pregnancy etc) and men see life through different eyes, so it's natural that they would express themselves differently. (Women play with more "restless abandonment" (ie Mutter, duprey, josefowitz, sonnenberg, Argeritch, Neveu, Laura St. John and this woman

  • a truly wonderful rendition. would like to hear her version of the rest

  • lol goodly .

i must say silvia is a great violinist

  • Comment removed

  • Silvio823, marry a man, so...

  • This is a damn good version by this woman. Bravo...Silvia............

  • que sonifdo tan fino

  • This is amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • What violin is she using?

  • whooooaaa niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee

her elbow goes high high high!!

    shes cool

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!she is great

  • She is wonderfull. She is not a violinist, she is an artist. I remember his stay in Buenos Aires, with a concert of Tchaikovsky in 1998, in an excellent performance

  • Romanian are the best! Romanii sunt cei mai buni!

  • Hihi luca :)) !

  • Why is it that everyone who criticizes a performance is told to "play it yourself"...the music world is all about critiquing performances. That's how one gets better, for one thing- by getting feedback. And personal preferences are varied. It's just a knee-jerk immature response.

  • wow!! amazing everything! if you have any kind of ear, you can hear the depth in her playing. it's not stiff, it's technically perfect. it reminds me a little of heifetz.

  • i completely agree!! she plays with an inner passion.

  • absolutely! and her playing is so sturdy, so marvelously old-school in the best sense. yes, passionate and every single note is there.

  • tiene cara de loca pero toca depravado

  • OMG'

Her Tune is so Perfecct : O

  • listen to Zino Francescatti playing this.....

  • her right hand is very rigid... and you can tell sometimes because her bow connections sometimes have little breaks.

I don't care for her interpretation either, she plays a lot of the delicate parts forte... Perlman is the best on this concerto, in my opinion.

  • why don't YOU play this? let's see..

  • I'm working on it right now, for your info... doesn't mean I can play it perfectly, but when I perform it in March with my orchestra I'll post it...

  • Sorry, but how hold are you? please, go to google and search 'silvia marcovici', and reed who is her..

  • Her shoulders look as if they're tense. And yeah, I thought he right elbow was quite high too, although different violin schools prefer different positioning. Wouldn't work for me but hey, she plays the Saint-Saens great!

  • Her right hand is really high but I guess that doesn't bother her. Very nicely played.

  • omg her vibrato is always the same. this kind of obnoxious, irritating spasm. i wish she would vary it just a tad. it could add so much. but it just takes away so much musicality for me. like i cant get past it.

she has a great technique but i cant tolerate the copious vibrations every time theres a slightly sustained pitch. whatever, its made her famous

  • bravo!

  • she has an amazing 4th finger vibrato

  • the tempo is kinda slow don't you think? I know it's really depends on the soloist, but...even I used a faster tempo..about 8 minutes in lenght. But I've heard recording which is faster, only 7 minutes in lenght. And the interpertation was good too.

  • man. this is the only half decent recording of this concerto on youtube. can somebody plz record a really really good performance of this and post it for me so i have another perspective. im researching. but the only ppl who play it on youtube are a bunch of kids.

  • i really like her violin. amazing sound.

  • she is the virtuoso! no doubt! also i enjoyed bruch violin concerto too. she poured her passion into.

she has similar violin as mine, ruggerie(?), she uses 4 fine tuners as me, my teacher said it could change the tone. but it is easier to tune.

  • Fantastic violinist, great concerto, beautiful performance! Bravo!

  • What the fuck, man. You have no idea what you're talking about. Can you play better I don't think so. Post a video of yourself playing it as well as her, or shut the fuck up.

  • uhh..previous comment directed towards kellbellwon

  • um. you are crazy. i didnt say she was a bad musician. it's a matter of techinical preferance. take some anger management buddy.

  • hmm...in color....

  • Flawless and fascinating technique and musicality!!! Love it...Thanks for the videos guys!

  • I played this piece for my senior recital in college, and I wish I had heard a recording by this lady--she is amazing! She makes it look and sound so easy--and I know from experience this piece is pretty darn tough to execute well!

  • well, post your video then!

  • Dude, there is no video to post.

  • Check out the old Columbia recording with Zino Francescatti and N.Y. (Mitropoulos - I think)). You'll never be able to listen to anybody else play this piece. But, Marcovici is quite wonderful. Also a huge and gorgeous sound live.

  • I am very impressed too. Today I discover the conductor Piero Bellugi as well as the soloist Silvia Marcovici. They are amazing.

  • She is amazing. Very expressive and with an obvious love for what she's doing. I'm very impressed.

  • GODDESS

  • I was thinking about playing this piece for my audience on academy, but I also like concerto in e minor of Mendellsohn. Which one is better? :S

  • Mendelssohn

  • depends which one u can play better

  • Good idea!

  • Lol it's funny. All these songs that aspiring musicians like absolutely must play lol. Mendelssohn is cooler if you ask me. Saint Saens makes interesting music though

  • This must've been done around the time that "Cher" was on - she looks like a less beautiful version of Cher! Anyhow, the playing is absolutely splendid. I've heard Silvia live a couple times and she always sounds terrific...a very underrated violinist. I hear a lot of boring performances of the Saint Saens #3 but this is not one of them!

  • i am learning this concerto for my audition to conservatory, it's great they way she interpreted, very helpful, precise tempo.

  • conservatory? isn't that that glass thing that tails off your house into the yard? you mean conservertoire? :D

the tempo is flexible, there is no precise tempo good luck with audition

  • Silvia Marcovici is my favorite musician. She interpreted Saint Saens perfectly. Tones on G string was very impressive. Thanks for posting.
