Hey Chris. Dunno why I've never looked you up on here before, but glad I did. You have only gotten faster and more technical... just when I thought you couldn't possibly get any more impressive, you do. Snare sounds amazing. Your bass keeps getting faster and faster. Keep up the good work. For those comments about the vid being sped up: I marched on the same drum corp for years. This is CERTAINLY NOT sped up; it's all him. But to the haters: Don't worry I feel ya... I'm jealous too. -Ryan
I was going to mention that you should try a different style setup, but I guess your already on top of that :]
youve got such tight single strokes, and that fig snare is really singing in this. Theres chops here for sure, now you just gotta work on being Tasty.
Yep still amazing... I wonder how many people watching know that along with the single bass pedal, you are also blind in your right eye and still manage to be a badass. Keep it up man. Can't wait to hear some new stuff.
I dont want to come off the wrong way, but being completley blind shouldnt even affect anyones drumming. I think sometime it can make u better seeing as how drums are a instrument based on feel. I know when i play and get into a groove my eyes are usually closed. When u go blind or if ur born that way, ur other senses are intensified and amplified. That includes feel. I mean look at Stevie Wonder
You're right :) It's more of an annoyance than a handicap. Being blind in my right eye eliminates the peripheral vision to my right side, which is one reason why my head moves around a lot so that I can see where I'm going when I need to jump over to that side. I mean, yeah I can play without looking, but it's still nice to be able to somewhat tell where I'm going lol. Setting up and breaking down means that the drums aren't always in the exact same position every time though. Pianos are.
I have now re-arranged my drums to be more ergonomic than they used to be though. My setup back then was all out of whack lol. Look at how spread out they were... it was ridiculous haha. I keep them tighter together now, and I use a jazz setup, which makes everything much easier. I made it harder on myself before by setting them up that way.
a drummer who wears glasses lol ur sick. i was hoping to learn something off some people on youtube but your too complicated to learn off man and im too shit . your sick thoe.
Dude Im still loving this three years later, great stuff bud.
Dog, why dont you over analyze what he is doing a little more, seriously, everyone has there own style, own grip and so on, let people play their own style so we arent all robots following a book of "Drum Law." Last time I checked some of the greatest drummers alive right now have some jacked up grips and everyone has there own style and groove, its nice to see not everyone following the norm.
boring, no dynamic awareness, lacked evenness and the worst possibly setup ever! Plus your grip looks horrid...yes your fast and have chops, but technique starts from your grip, setup aswell as you speed...and these things do accept your sound, which is why alot of this has no dynamics or is uneven in places...learning to play quietly, even and still play with energy is ten times harder than the chops your trying to pull off in this. Sorry mate
Why do you critisize his drumming. Its really good. Everyone has their own unique style to play drums. This guy doesent need a good Grip or how you see it because maybe its not his Style and maybe he prefers it that way. Plus you cant judge his setup....Because again every Drummer has their own setup That THEY like not for people like you. So yeah....
every drummer plays like this. I'm not saying it's bad, but what ever happened to the ridiculously hard-hitting massive pounding drumming of drummers like Dave Grohl? there should be more drumming like that. people who play the drums for the songs, not for their own satisfaction. Having good songs as a band (if you're in one) is much better than having just a good technical drum part. again, I'm not saying this is bad, all I'm asking is why do all drummers strive to be fast and technical? I dont
Obviously playing with other musicians and playing solo are two completely different animals. I love Dave Grohl's playing (one of my first songs to learn on drums was "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters) but that drumming without music is just another plain drum part and wouldn't carry a video by itself. I like to play in both worlds; one being where I compliment a song with back beats and hard hitting grooves, and the other side where I push my technical limits. This vid is the latter.
nice groooove dude. i think you should add a secondary snare on your left. that Yamaha is cool but after many beats sounds boring. by the way you're great.
i thought he did in the tags. but this guy isn't arrogant and self-praising like i thought when I made that comment. i found out later he only put virtuoso in the tags so this vid would show up in more searches. my bad.
I always played with the snare farther from the set and tilted nearly 45 degrees and people always think I'm for it. Thats what you get for teaching yourself with a rudiments book and a few of those play along book/CD sets.
Most excellent! The imagination, the physical exertion, and the satisfaction of soloing and acheiving optimal results are just cause to be a bobble head! Dont worry about it! A great solo video without a doubt! Smooth, fast, accurate, creative and flowing...seamless percussion! It does tend to remind me of Hillary Jones style in a big way, she's definately one of my favorites. Drum on!

Chris, can you please tell me what your finger technique is... it looks like you mainly focus on putting a lot of pressure on the fulcrum between your index and thumb? I'm trying to copy you. =)
i did, "genius". why does everybody use that argument? there are points that he didn't speed it up at all, but there are some fills that you can clearly tell its sped up because of the way his entire body rotates. you cannot move your entire body back and forth that fast.
but I'm not going to argue. if you think, its not sped up, its not my problem.
I didn't speed it up. If you don't want to take MY word for it, fine, but you're in denial. NONE of it is sped up. If it was sped up, don't you think the tone of the drums would change? Wouldn't there be some kind of artifacts in the sound that would show that something wasn't right? It's all legit.
P.S. I'm blind in my right eye, so yeah a lot of times I may turn my whole body really quick to see what's to the right of me. There are a few times that I shift my whole body really fast to look the other way... that's just the way I have to do it.
hey man love ur speed its demonic- hah theres a good compliment for u- im a young drummer and would love half ur speed can u mail me sum tips plz- would be awesome- thanks!!
Maxtotheham: I moved my hihat later on to play around with the clave.. I just got it and hadn't used it much, so I didn't really know where to put it haha.
If you wnat to tighten up your groove, shorten the distance of your beater-head to the kick. You bass drumm is playing catch up to your licks/groove. If you can't handle you can try cranking up the bass drum head (get a single ply). You'll sound much tighter. The left ft clave is cool, but pointless.
hey this is one of my favorite vids on you tube and this is what made me think of micing my drums and snycing the video with it.. but you are great.. what type of heads do you use
Awesome solo mate. Remember its best to do a drum solo as a story. Start with an intro, fundamentals, then variate on them until you get to the highest point, the climax (pull off lightning fast up here), then slow decline into awesome finish outro. Good job with the video.
you look like you can play pretty well but this wasn't some of your best work i'm sure. This sounded like you got reallllly high and started drumming...you were going allll over the place with no real linking between beats. It was like a schitzophrenic on crack playing the durms.
Hey Chris. Dunno why I've never looked you up on here before, but glad I did. Maxtotheham: I moved my hihat later on to play around with the clave.. I just got it and hadn't used it much, so I didn't really know where to put it haha.

dude....it donesn't even look like you're using

Woodrimmed snare gives a more crisp tone, I love it. Your solo is great too, and I bet a lot of people wobble there heads, haha I do.

How long have you been playing dude ?

you look like you can play pretty well but this wasn't some of your best work i'm sure. This sounded like you got reallllly high and started drumming...you were going allll over the place with no real linking between beats. It was like a schitzophrenic on crack playing the durms.
