Much respect.. Greatest all around player IMO... Think about the the stats he could have put up if he didn't check his ego and start playing a team game.. Class through and through...
Lidstrom is great. He learned alot from Stevie Y. His jersey will be the next retired. Then Zetterberg will be the next captain, but we have a few more yrs of Lids.
I think Lidas is going downhill, but that's pretty obvious, he's getting old. I think he has 2 more years, then he's gone. Will be great to see his jersey up with the other big boys!
This is Lidstroms' last yr on his contract. He'll re-sign cheap for 2-3 yrs. He knows it about the younger guys now. Same when Yzerman retired. Yzerman was drafted when I was 6 and I am honestly proud to say I watched whole NHL career. Same with Lids.
Me and my wife have a 10 month old son and if there's any hockey players i'd love him to look up to it's Lids and Yzerman. He will know exactly who they are and that they were 2 of the greatest to lace up a pair of skates.
Yeah.. Steve Wonder was one of the greatests, and most respected hockey players of all time. Everytime he'd score a goal he'd go see his teamates, he wouldnt just skate away like Ovechkin does.. :P

The attendance sure doesn't show that in Detroit. It's like the greater Detroit area has just shrugged their shoulders at the Wings and all their success since 02. In a way, the Wings are kind of the Devils now. They are successful but it matters very little to anyone any more. That was never the case in Edmonton.
Actually I've lived here all my life and hockey is as big as ever. In terms of the attendance at the Joe, I hate to use the cliche "economy" excuse, but in my personal situation, the ticket prices are the reason why I don't go to as many games as I'd like to. And in terms of fan base, I'm not saying that Detroit fans are any better than Edmonton fans, but in terms of American cities, Detroit has the best hockey fan base bar none.
No it isn't. The last 4 years the Pistons have out drawn the Wings. The Wings are an incredibly successful team but they don't play a tough, North American brand of hockey that the Detroit/Windsor area have had the pleasure of experiencing in the past. For the first time in their history they had offer discount packages to fill up the Joe. After coming off of a Cup win that is hardly a ringing endorsement of their place in the community.
Additionally, I've gone to about 50 or so games in the last two years and the atmosphere stinks compared to what it use to be. It feels like a freak'n morgue or a library at exam time. No, somethings wrong with hockey in Detroit but few have the balls to say they aren't enjoying it like they use to. Detroit is supposed to be Hockeytown; we don't compare ourselves to the rest of the US. We are set the standard. Well, ticket sales, discounts, and the general apathy speak louder than words.
Well first of all, I wouldn't say that the ticket sales is indicative of a city's love for a sport. Furthermore, as a city that sets the standard, it's important to gauge ourselves once in a while by comparing ourselves to other cities. With that said, the decline of the popularity of hockey has been occurring throughout the States thanks in no small part to Mr. Bettman.
There is a direct, linear relationship between ticket/merchandise sales and the connection with the community; marketing research proves it. Great markets like Boston and Chicago said that the Canadian standard was too rigorous to try to achieve in the US and then chose to compare themselves to the Carolinas and Atlantas of the world. Look where that got them; they are just emerging from their self-imposed slumber now. Blaming Gary is too covenant and easy; it's the losers way out.
You do realize the joe is smaller than the palace right? Of course the pistons out draw the wings...besides the fact youre comparing sports with different popularity as well. Nice try at a point.
i live near detriot and i know the wings are big as ever whenever there is a game everyone at my school as there fav players jersey on or just a wings shirt and i belive the wings are 3rd in selling the most tickets.
Man, I've watched this video about 20 times over the past year or so and it never gets old. Great work putting it all together. It's by far the best Yzerman compilation on Youtube.
Remember, most of those goas were scored in the era before goalie training made the backstops a real challenge. I mean come on. How many of those goals were scored against Greg Millan?
i DEFY you to watch his retirement night and not start to tear up...he was such an amazing player, maybe not the most skill, but his work ethic and leadership cant be matched and will most likely never be.
Great Video...your videos finally start doing justice toStevie Y... he doesnt get near enough credit for all he did...he was the greastest player ive ever seen, not because of his numbers but his leadership....
such a great video, hes been my idol my whole life i wore 19 my whole life hockey and baseball. I was born in 85 many young kids dont remember mr. yzerman being a goal scorer, but i do, this video means a lot to me, thanks for psoting it
Some of these clips were taken from an old music video montage from Channel 50 way back in the day to the tune "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits. I used to have it on VHS and most of the highlights from that vid are in this video.
like i said before on the other video..the best hockey player to ever put on the letter "C". a true legend and a hero. thanks for all the great years and memories.
steve yzerman was simply the best, no question. he had so many amazing players by his side. only yzerman deserves to be called "THE" capitain. they should retire his jersey not only from the team, but from the league.
What I think venzetti8 mean't when he said that Yzerman didn't have the players with him, was when he was putting up big points early in his career when Detroit was a terrible team and he was playing with scrubs. Certainly the later Detroit teams were some of the best ever, but that was after he had changed his game to a more defensive one and saw his point totals drop. Note: I am not saying he was as good as Gretzky, that is simply not the case, but his arguement is infact true.
yeah i agree that yzerman was one of the best players ever but to be honest he did have a lot of good players by him like jarhead said. but yes he is still a god i miss the good old days with osgood, federov, shanahan, etc... ahhh good times
Didn't have the players by his side? Yea your right I suppose Fedorov, Lidstrom, Shanahan, Coffey, Primeau, Hull, Larionov, and Chelios were all just dead weight. O and not to mention even Pavs and Zetts later.
Yzerman was good as Gretzky, maybe even better. Yzerman didnt have the players by his side that Gretzky had. Yzerman is the best and will always be the best

@YzermanFan19- Um? A video that gets us pumped up? Why would you want THAT? Yzerman retiring is a sad thing. I think he/she made an -excellent- song choice.
Wow. Great video. I'm looking forward to seeing more in the future. Yzerman is the man. I hope the NHL honors his career properly at the begining of this upcoming season.

My top 5 goals in this vid:
5. A little outside inside move that catches the Flyers D-man in a crossover allowing Stevie to walk in (3:11).
4. Stops on a dime, Blake goes flying by, and Stevie wrists one past Stauber (3:24).
3. He cuts in, causes some Flyers to run into each other before deking the goalie (4:03).
2. He treats the Blackhawks like pylons and roofs it over Panger (2:41).
1. He's in mid-air with his feet pointed towards the net, and wrists it over Barrasso's shoulder (2:20).
