I was told that if I was asked how to check the indicators are working then I shouldn't just use the hazard warning lights. That might show that the lights are working but it doesn't show that the indicators are working.
There is a difference between checking the indicators (that is the lights themselves) and the indicator 'switch'. The check you describe will ensure the operation of the indicator switch but this is not a requirement of the test. The only requirement is to check that the inidicators, i.e. the lights, are working. This can be done by using the hazard warning light switch. The check you suggest is equally valid but you will need to check the left side and then the right side. Thanks, Bob
Hi there, thanks for the comment it was good of you to take the time to leave it. Can you let me know what you found inaccurate about this video? As to my voice...well, these videos were never meant to be Hollywood productions just simple helps for people who need it. Take care I hope your driving test goes well. Bob
Hi, thanks for getting back to me. The DSA website has a link to the Q & A and you will see that it is not unusual to switch on the ignition to check the horn (and other equipment). The horn is not to be USED on road in the context of warning other users however the "Driving" manual does not prohibit the CHECKING of the horn on road. You must however take care not to alarm or annoy any other road users. Examiners are, however, required to have this "show me" question take place off road. Bob
Sorry I should have said "The horn is not to be USED 'while stationary' on the road..." and "does not prohibit the CHECKING the horn 'while stationary' on the road...".
A very helpful video, as my instructor doesn't bother with show me, tell me. So i thought i would find help myself. My test is in just over 2 weeks i hope i do it first time, any information/advice please let me know...
Thanks very much Bob, like tezamistic i was also dreading this part of the test (i am using a peugeot 207) but now i feel every confident! my test is in early april... i have even added this to my playlist so i dont lose it...
thanks this is very useful, although i drive a different car the handbrake testing etc. is very useful. i have my test tmoro and am dreading this part of test
Correct me if I'm forgetting the provisions of the Road Traffic Act, but isn't an offence to use your horn in a stationary vehicle?

when testing the horn you should be off road and correct me if im wrong but most cars dont require the ignition to be on to operate it
