Bananas are actually very healthy for horses. Most fruits are good for them, just be sure to remove pits. Seeds are fine. They can eat grapes, plums (remove pits), peaches (remove pits), apricots (remove pits) and many vegetables. Obviously in moderation! Oh, and a very healthy way to aid in weight gain is BOSS (Black Oil Sunflower Seeds). About 1 cup per day or whenever possible in their supplements is very healthy as well as high in Phosphorous-a healthy mineral. Enjoy!
@elinheartstristin "Equally toxic are cherry (black cherry, chokecherry, and fire cherry) peach and plum trees, all members of the Prunus species. These leaves also produce cyanide when wilted, affecting horses within a few hours of ingestion." This I found from a few accredited and non-accredited sites. You can also look up a list of toxic plants in your average horse info book.
@elinheartstristin "Animals are commonly found dead due to rapidity of cyanide’s effects. When observed, signs may include excitement, general muscle tremors, dyspnea, salivation, defecation, urination followed by clonic convulsions and death"
That's from ingesting a significant amount of toxin. : "Cyanide is lethal at dosages of 0.5 to 3 mg/kg b.w. Ingestion of 100 g of wild cherry leaves with ~ 200 mg CN per 100 grams would be lethal to a 100 lb. animal"
@elinheartstristin no prob. In the south the choke cherries are all over the place, and we recently chopped down and got rid of the ones near our horse pastures. The leaves have a teardrop shape and the stems of the leaves are tinted cherry red.

is there any fruit tht is bad for a horse?
lol
cuz ive seen a bunch of vids with all these diff fruits....
i mean as long as the fruit doesnt hav seeds....?
BurnBaby105 3 years ago
Most fruits are very healthy for horses, just no pits. Bananas especially are very healthy due to the potassium; it helps them with electrolytes.
FRENCHI1102 3 years ago
@BurnBaby105 cherries are very poisonous to them. The american cherry trees in particular are very bad. Even small bits could kill them.

@theKrystalcharm what is in the cherries that makes them die? it would be helpful to know this please answer.
