My son had friends at that camp. (They were lucky. They all survived.) The kids weren't extremists. They weren't there to be brainwashed. It's a normal part of our political life.

I know people in the AUF (Youth Labour Party) and while some of them are young and idealistic none of them are communist. All I know is that his motives for saying such a thing, although without tact concerning the horrible circumstance, would be his stance against the idea of parties. This stems from his following of Washington. Even so there is another man he follows that he mentions more often - that is Martin Luther King. Although difficult to sum up in this restricted platform, I see MLK in Glenn.
Maybe. I'm not altogether convinced that Mr. Beck is actually hostile to parties. He seemed positively delighted when the Tea Party began to assemble, and while it may have begun as a grassroots movement (many claim it was artificial, which may be partly true) these days it has fully integrated into the Republican Party. I don't recall that Mr. Beck has expressed displeasure at this fact, and I believe he still continues to cite the Tea Party as the "voice of America".

I recognize that this may be partly the consequence of his passion for politics, but when you have a position as a major public outlet for news commentary you are duty-bound (in my view) to quell passion and stick firmly to reason and fact. That's my position.

Well, here's the thing about that. The United States operates on an entirely different electoral system and espouses Presidentialism instead of Parliamentarism. What this ultimately leads to is a two-party system. Two-party systems tend to create a pair of nigh indistinguishable "catch-all" parties that try to grab every moderate voter they can.
Most Americans, by virtue of a culture venerating wealth, don't like Socialism. So the moderates to be grabbed aren't center-left.

Yeah, the USA (I think you'll find) operates on a system which at first glance is nothing short of insanity come alive. Lawmaking is intentionally inefficient, it purposefully gives excessive representation to states with popular minorities in an entire house of its legislature, unlike most European countries it has a very strong, independent judicial branch with the power of constitutional review, and a whole host of other issues. But there's a method to the madness.
Being a Social Democrat, I don't particularly like the sort of policies that Mr. Beck would favor. But then, I suppose it's best to have a balance to prevent radicalism from setting in, and that means having a few Liberal (in the European sense) parties around. After all, get too far to the Left and the Statist Communists start getting powerful. Parties like Die Linke and Enhedslisten, given too much clout, could get dangerous if their Communists gained control.

About Glenn Beck, I have seen enough of his shows to know where he stands. This had nothing to do with political bias. He would have made the same judgmental mistake no matter what party had a political camp.

@SocialistCatgirl I have not seen Beck give a denouncement of his comments concerning the political youth camps. All I know is that his motives for saying such a thing, although without tact concerning the horrible circumstance, would be his stance against the idea of parties. This stems from his following of Washington. Even so there is another man he follows that he mentions more often - that is Martin Luther King. Although difficult to sum up in this restricted platform, I see MLK in Glenn.

Maybe. I'm not altogether convinced that Mr. Beck is actually hostile to parties. He seemed positively delighted when the Tea Party began to assemble, and while it may have begun as a grassroots movement (many claim it was artificial, which may be partly true) these days it has fully integrated into the Republican Party. I don't recall that Mr. Beck has expressed displeasure at this fact, and I believe he still continues to cite the Tea Party as the "voice of America".

He has said that if the Tea Party ever begin lobbying or I guess coagulating as a political body it would not be any better than big government. Regardless of whether Mr. Beck has actually expressed displeasure at the Tea Party's integration into the Republican Party, I've found that whether he intends to or not he makes incisive, often illogical arguments. I recognize that this may be partly the consequence of his passion for politics, but when you have a position as a major public outlet for news commentary you are duty-bound (in my view) to quell passion and stick firmly to reason and fact. That's my position.

So maybe I've had Glenn Beck all wrong. Maybe he's not this sneaky, deceptive fear-monger who feeds off of hysteria for ratings' sake. Maybe he's a genuinely passionate Libertarian who just happens to very often let his tongue slip away from rational argumentation and speak from a radical, emotionally driven position.
But I get upset when he compares my political positions to cancer, to Nazism, and as the road to Stalinism. That's factually inaccurate, and hurtful.

In my personal view I think Norway functions well as a socialist country because we have a balance between several parties. Well, here's the thing about that. The United States operates on an entirely different electoral system and espouses Presidentialism instead of Parliamentarism. What this ultimately leads to is a two-party system. Two-party systems tend to create a pair of nigh indistinguishable "catch-all" parties that try to grab every moderate voter they can.
Most Americans, by virtue of a culture venerating wealth, don't like Socialism. So the moderates to be grabbed aren't center-left.

Yeah, the USA (I think you'll find) operates on a system which at first glance is nothing short of insanity come alive. Lawmaking is intentionally inefficient, it purposefully gives excessive representation to states with popular minorities in an entire house of its legislature, unlike most European countries it has a very strong, independent judicial branch with the power of constitutional review, and a whole host of other issues. But there's a method to the madness.

Being a Social Democrat, I don't particularly like the sort of policies that Mr. Beck would favor. But then, I suppose it's best to have a balance to prevent radicalism from setting in, and that means having a few Liberal (in the European sense) parties around. After all, get too far to the Left and the Statist Communists start getting powerful. Parties like Die Linke and Enhedslisten, given too much clout, could get dangerous if their Communists gained control.

The killer had two weapons. So it's being said that he was alone, based on ballistic evidence. Of course: Did he ever fire his glock? Witnesses have reported another shooter, shots heard from two different directions, etc. What will come of this isn't easy to tell. But it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Breivik thought his actions would start a war. His face when he gets out of isolation to see what has happened, that he is labeled a sick twisted person by all sides, the image of a Norwegian bishop and a Muslim Imam hugging, the gathering of Norwegians and people of all nationalities in the streets all over the country and across the world; That face would be priceless.

How so? The AUF is the youth organisation of the ruling labour party, AP.
Our labour party has good relations with both the palestinians and the israeli.
The vast majority of Norwegians, and all our political parties are opposed to all forms of discrimination, this includes antisemetism.
The seminars were not anti semetic. Any expression of antisemitism from a member of the AUF would, and will, lead to immediate expulsion.
