Ok people. Gauss cannons and coil guns are the same thing.

do u need to use magnet wire to make a coil gun or can u just use copper wire or normal metal wire

Well it has to be a coil which means the wire has to be insulated.And copper is best because it has lower resistivity.

well if the wire touches anywhere it won't work because it's going to be a short circuit. You're better off using insulated wire because you can make the coil tighter without worrying about a short circuit.

Its not a gauss gun its a coil gun.

A gauss gun is a gun that fires by magnetic acceleration.

Coil guns fire because of an electro magnetic field being generated by a coil.

THEY USE A COIL!

(Unless it's one of those that uses magnets. Which are quite weak.)

A gauss gun has magnets that accelerate eachouther.

electronic where i am heading is that a coil gun's work by modifying properties of a coil by running electricity threw it to create a EM field.

Gauss guns are just using the properties of magnets to accelerate.

They are close and many people say they are both the same, but they are not the same.

Im gonna have to agree with raptor Using coil's is magnetic acceleration u add enough it turns into particle acceleration. its how they made the LHC ;)

The shape of the magnetic field being created has a different shape.

The round ones that look like flux trapping effects are Coil guns.

Gauss guns are like a straight line of transfered magnetism.

Thats what i'm getting at, because obviously the coil guns create some form of magnetic pull to throw bullets.

I need some advise from expirienced person like you(I suppose)!

I'm planing to use the Ignition Coil from the car that will produce and release 20-to-40 KV in very short period of time.

What do you think about it? Will it work on such a device with high voltage instead the capacitors?

Ha ha! That's awesome. I want to make one now. I took a disposable camera apart once and didn't realize the capacitor still had a charge, that wasn't the best time I've had.
