  • i have a staywell, first i got the stupid infr staywell, STAY WELL AWAY from it, it is terrible, and complete waist of money, they should be shut down! The problem is 2 fold, 1. the stupid flashing sensor thing on the cat colar is so weak, it breaks, or falls off after 5 months, and it like 25 quid for a new one. It does not always open the door. Then second issue, is that just about any tom cat and simply push through the door. So i am not sure to try Cat Mate or Pet Porte.

  • That is awesome. I just ordered one of these, and I hope it works as well for me as it did for you. I'm using it for feeding boxes for two indoor cats with separate diet needs. I tried the Pet Safe door with the magnet collar tag, and my bully cat barged right through it in under ten seconds.

  • Is that a PetPorte?

  • No, it is a Cat Mate Elite Super Selective.

I did try the Pet Porte first, but was very disappointed with the design of the catch. I could push it open with much less force than the staywell flap. This cat would have been straight through, so I sent it back to the manufacturer for a refund.

  • It is strong once fitted. It is impossible to push open once in the door.

  • Sorry but fitting it wouldn't make a difference, the frame is very strong and doesn't need the door to reinforce it.

The weak point is the latch which only overlaps the flap by ~2 mm not enough.

I realise you're trying to make a living selling these things, but don't make exagerated claims.

  • Pet Porte will keep other cats out. Perhaps MANYEYZ you didn't install it or you didn't install it correctly. It is much better and safer to have a collarless cat flap that works using your cats pre-existing microchip implant.

  • I didn't need to install the Petporte as I could tell it wasn't strong enough. I could push it open with my finger with less force that it took to push open my Staywell flap.

It will stop some cats, just not a determined cat.

The cat in your video doesn't seam to push that hard, is it an invading cat or just your cat with the flap locked?

The problem is unless you catch a cat inside your house you might never know you are feeding a visitor.

I will stay with my Cat Mate Elite flap thanks.

  • You keep repeating yourself but that's not true. You can't push the PetPorte open with your finger - not when it's installed in the door at any rate.

  • which cat flap is the one in the vid cause we have the same problem with a stray cat (not bob geldolf) trying to get in as well, it just brute forces its way through the staywell one we have at present

  • The one in the video is the Pet-Mate Elite Super selctive.

It's been in and working for almost a year now with no problems. A collar is still needed but the key is a lot lighter than the staywell infrared key, as there are no batteries.

I looked at quite a few cat flaps after the problems with the staywell, this one is definetly the strongest.

Hope it can solve your problem too.

  • Yup, those cats go straight for the big screens!

  • The collarless idea is good, if your cat does't like collars.

But I bought a Petporte and sent it straight back for a refund. As it was much easier to force open than the staywell flap I was having problems with, the cat in the video would have been straight through it.

I felt Petporte had focused only on the collarless features of the design, the locking mechanism was very poor.

  • Pet Porte is better because it works without a collar.
