This has nothing to do with the Christian religion. NDE's are reported from people of all different religious and culture backgrounds. My father's best friend fell through thin ice about 10 years ago, died, and was resuscitated in the hospital. Remember, these are "near death" experiences, meaning that they were not really dead. Your brain is responsible for the light, the flashing of your life, etc. People are quick to assign this activity to something spiritual yet it is all just physical reaction to trauma. I wonder what causes the perception of a light at the end of a tunnel that is so commonly described by survivors of near death experiences. I am sure the pleasant imagery is similar to dreams or hallucinations conjured by an oxygen starved brain, but the light would only be pleasant to someone expecting it as a sign of eternal bliss. It would be interesting to know if it is experienced by those with no exposure to religions that use this imagery. Then again, perhaps it too is neurological.
