Our dog will howl just like that when his beloved person leaves, even if others are in his company. We have a dog that is loyal to just one person, our mother, and if she leaves, he will go and sit by the door, and cry for our Mom to come back home. I feel sorry, not I pity people who think he is just howling, but then, not everyones IQ goes beyond the double digits.

You can't just expect your dog to be happy alone. You need to train it! He has to get used to it bit by bit. Leaving him alone without training it is cruel and stupid. Every dog can stay alone for varying lengths of time if you train them!

oh my poor baby.... if he ever has to be alone, play Bach or Beethoven. Any of the classics. It really soothes their souls under separation anxiety. Also you can buy Bach's Rescue Remedy in a health food store which helps anxiety attacks.

all dogs can be trained. My dad is trained to be able to be left alone. We did it when he was younger. We tell him good bye and he some how undersatnds we are leaving. But if we don't say good bye and he suddenly realizes no one is home that is when he howls. He is calling us home, as long as he knows. He;s ok. you just gotta train them
