No generally you dont, but most addons made the last few months are made to work whit version 1.08 or higher. So i can recomend upgrading to that patch.
If you have troubles activating your addons you should go to armaholic(dot)com and search for 'modfolder method'(whit out the ')

Ive never played it whit lower patch than 1.08, so i can recomend 1.08 or the beta patch 1.09.
