That being said, computer technology advances so fast every year that computers often become obsolete very quickly. sorry im not a fanboy of any console but your wrong there. Sony is the owner of blu ray and they put the highest spec blu ray reader in the ps3. Ps3 slim being the best reader at the moment. I have a recent standalone alone blu ray player thats 6 months old and i must say the ps3 reads them far more quicker.

*sigh* 1080p (the 'full HD' resolution) is a measy 1920×1080 image. you can get this resolution on nearly any monitor you can buy that's less than a year old. a pc with a 'mainstream' video card can play blu-ray movies and a high-end pc is much more powerfull than a ps3.

then again to some games are all about the looks. nothing else. that's why most console games are simple, linear, and ultimately booring.

I'm not trying to say that one platform is better than another, but trying to say that a blu-ray drive is better than a PC is ridiculous.

Instead of having your optical drive with inferior speeds, you can use a hard drive which reaches burst speeds that are much higher than that of a blu-ray drive (SSD or not). Blu-ray isn't more speed, it's more storage. But a hard drive has more storange than a blu-ray disc anyway.

Also, a PS3 plays games at 720p with little AA/AF. PC's go WAY above that.

@ bhebe, the PS3 renders at 720p and below and the upscaled it to 1080p. Also, while a PS3 can't play at 1920x1080, modern gaming machines can play at 7680x1600, which is about 7 times above 1080p. Also, please keep in mind a blu-ray drive has nothing over a hard drive. In fact, the extra space on a blu-ray drive results in much lower burst speeds when compared to an SSD or even a regular SATA drive.

Games are meant to be viewed up close to take in all your surroundings. An average TV gamer sits 3-6 feet away from the TV so designers don't have to worry about the detail they put into it, but the computer gamer sits 8-14 inches from the screen so designers put a considerable amount of more detail in the PC games.

But, Ubisoft got their shit together and took what was good about the first, improved on it, and then fixed all the problems (first and foremost the mission structure) and added new features. The story for AC2 is well worth the cliff hanger ending of the first as well. "a working concept than a finished game."
