I have to admit, Jarvis cocker and Pulp still have a unique place in British rock. My heart still belongs to the Stone Roses but Pulp and Jarvis is still stands strong to this day, like Louise and Sleeper.
Youll never fail like the common people. Youll never watch your lives slide out of view and then you dance and drink and screw because theres nothing else to dooooooooo
Brit pop at it finest I often wonder why they werent a much bigger success than they were..
There is nothing wrong with common people silly! Way to miss the point GPOLE GIRL. He is talking working class- not those with money-the rich, the celebrities, the millionaires, the fortunate few and the stupid young brats that walk around believing themselves celebrities, imitating vacous senseless grins and dressing up to look "cool"- is all this too wordy? did I loose you- I tried not to use too many big words there...
whats wrong with common people dance, drink screw!!!!! sounds like fun and sorry i am common i like sex, pool, fags with is cigs,i like to screw,FUCK,MAKE LOVE,WHATS SOO BAD ABOUT THAT,BUT I DONT HAVE ROACHES AND I AM NOT POOR>>>>>MAYBE SINGLE AND PRETTY BUT SORRY PULP DONT HAVE ROACHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@georgeannpolishgirl It's an ironic celebration of working-class alienation, and the pathetic attempts of the bougeosie who the working-class as 'cool' and more 'genuine' to pretend they've ever struggled in their cosseted little lives.
That was awesome. I first heard that song via the video and I was mesmerised. Hell that man was HOT and definately in his prime in those days. He continues to be one of my heroes! Hail Jarvis!
Brits continue to create unique quality because this culture not the same money based culture as USA. Jarvis would have had to get a haircut and a job in the USA.
@mabrady163 Becuase the UK has always had a strong indie movement where artists are cultivate. Artists like Bobbie Gillespie (Primal Scream) and Jarvis Cocker had been around since the early 80s, but made their mark in the 90s, thanks to record companies that looked beyond the charts and focused on merit.
because u americans wrongly think ur 80s was rubbish, but in fact American Underground scene was so influential that i cant believe u guys just ignore them and get the conclusion that 80s should be hated.
@defaultoasis This song came out in 1994,so why the 80's chat? I agree. I am american and I hate american radio because it doesn't take risks...ever. It is so sterile and boring, that I NEVER listen to it.I also hate the fact that great american bands have to cross the pond to find an audience. Black Kids come to mind...
Robson & Jerome kept Pulp off the top spot but i thought it might have been Oasis's 'Some Might Say' would have kept Common People off the top spot and but it was Robson & Jerome's 'Unchained Melody' kept Jarvis Cocker off the top spot.
word up! i thought TOTP was always lip-synched/mimed to playback. this is the first time i believe i've seen a clip where the musicians on totp weren't lipsynching/mimming
