  • Yeah, live band, ad-libs, no-autotune... makes you realize what a bunch of awful talentless cunts most modern pop singers are.

  • Good Gosh Almighty!!!!

  • Get down, Gaylord Birch. Nice

  • 17 people probably like justin bieber's crap

  • so pretty.

  • Gaylord gittin down wit his fonky bad self on a round badge Gretsch kit WITH A 14x18" bass drum with the front head removed! Which sister is the lead singer in this song?

  • @DrumTchr thats Anita, the 2nd oldest, shes really belting it starting about 5:00.

  • @bendbenn THANKS! I appreciate it. :-)

  • This is nice because, this perfomance is before Bonnie (in green) fell out with her sisters... usually you only see three sisters.

  • this is stupid

  • the first 6:57 is the best.

  • ...and shortly after this, the late Gaylord Birch was with the funkiest band in the land Graham Central Station. His solo's with GCS in the 70's were incredible, especially in those large 20k+ size arenas.

  • oh yeah, and I do believe I gotta take this time right here and say.... JUUUUUUUNE!!! (and on this one especially, lord help me, the brilliant amazing fantastic ANITA !!!)

  • lol i didnt know marvin gaye could play the drums! lol or is that eddie kendricks?? lol naw im j/k.. this dude is funky!! and then pointer sisters are jammin!!!

  • @muzikman183 Marvin's first gig with Motown was a studio drummer and his 1st tune that he's heard on is:

"Please Mr. Postman" by the Marvellettes...He was a member of the legendary "The Funk Brothers"

  • i didnt marvin gaye could play the drums.. or was it eddie kendricks? lol. j/k this kat is funy as hell!.. and the pointer sister are throwin down!

  • @muzikman183 that's gaylord birch on drums.

  • I always loved "The Pointer Sisters" with them cat eyes. Anita Pointer was the most attractive of them all to me and my crush on her is still on high after 37 years. In the words of the great proverbial Gucci Mane "I think I luv ha." Her soul just turns me on!!! Next in line would be Ruth, super fine and cool as hell with that deep but femanine sultry voice and gagnsta bitch swagga! Then that sexy but confused June. Bonnie looked too much like a kitten and I can't imagine me fucking a kitten.

  • @magnumpush nice comment until ya got to Bonnie ... but she prolly wudn't want yor @ss eithyer. (haha)

  • @bendbenn I am totally O.K with that though. lol..

  • @magnumpush

    Let's keep it civil!

  • Is this concert available on DVD?

  • Doesn't get any better than this!!!!!

  • I just found out about Gaylord Birch, via an interview with Lenny White & Mike Clark. Gaylord is funk in this clip. I wonder if he's on SoulDrummers . com

  • Im sorry but this ain't nuthin but FUNKY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @philburrell HA HA HA.....I HEARD THAT, BRUTHA!!!!!!

  • daaaaaaamn,that BACKBEAT!!!!!

  • ...the brother ain't nuthing but the TRUTH, the ladys are no less than DIVAlicious..

"Gotta Chick on the Side" is one of the funkiest grooves you will ever hear. These ladies can not be touched in their genre...."EnVogue" came close but these ladyies did it all, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Rock and COUNTRY......they are the total package.....rest in peace my sister........

  • wow he IS the funky drummer!

    and great vocal performance.

    thanks for sahring.

  • Because no one would make that assumption. Because your name doesn't have the word gay in it.

  • There are drummers and there are drummers!........... This guy is the real deal!

  • @madjack1950 : AMEN (R.I.P. Mr. Birch)!!!!

  • ...I found this video by chance- and wooowh- it is a highlight, a rare treasure in soul- funky popular music... amazing energy, incredible singers performance- pointer sisters at their best... respect... you can make it!!!

  • hahah hes called gaylord

  • Gaylord also played Graham Central Station for a few years...great drummer...

  • i always thought that Bonnie was the prettiest one, but as she aged she became lest attractive and Anita and Ruth become more attractive.

  • @barbarasboi dat is my mother yo is talking about

  • @barbarasboi thats kinda mean?!?

  • @mickeyrouke Im sorry man :-(, I really wasn't tryn to be mean. I guess some lifestyles effect people in different ways as they age. It just dosn't seem like she aged as well as the others. But its just my opinion on her outer appereance. not sayin she's an ugly person or she looks ugly now. But i will say she was the finest sister when they were young...FINE! but my bad..Im not tryin to offend anybody.

  • i love the drummer he is tight,in the 70s they the pointers were funky but in the 80s went soft like lionel ritchie when he went solo

  • I thought it said Gaylord Bitch lawl

  • Just Real GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Music. We all love you ladys....... and miss you!!!

  • These ladys spent 10 k on out fits in 1982 before knoxville concert.worth every penny and then some!!mucho fine

  • AWESOME !

  • "How can you just sit there?" she sings near the end... Quite! The audience look like they're listening to some other gig! OMG the girls are singing their hearts out and pumping out a funk that's SO infectious...you have no choice but to dance to it...and yet...this audience is...well...nuff said. One of the best dance tunes of all time...It takes possession of your feet and then your very soul and you just HAVE to dance! Thank you Pointer Sisters and thank you for posting this.

  • soooooo fantastic, thx so much for posting it!!!

  • Anita's freestyling on this is TOO HOT!!! Such an incredible performance of this gem!

  • That is some bad ass funky stuff right there partner.

  • Does anyone have the song that one of the Pointer's did with Earl Thomas Conley? It would be very greatly appreciated. thanx.

  • man i luu dis song!!! ~~eleven goin on twelve

  • Super Funky !!

  • This should have been President Obama's theme song!

  • right on!

  • @vidann1

Totally would have been sweet at the inauguration if that drum beat came in and the pointer sisters sang this while Obama strolled about

  • @vidann1 he he he.. where do you think he got the slogan... he he he. he prolly was inspired by this song. Proves he has great taste.

  • I looooooove the Pointer Sisters!!

That track just put a good kick start on my day. Thanks. It's a piece of American movement that the world digs.

    -Dave@Woodpile

  • The pointer sisters... very good took the church theme to another level... go girls

  • lol i thought the title was Gaylord Bitch

  • @ahhbloobla worst name everrr!

  • GAYLORD<3

  • this is EASY among one of the best live performances ever!! that drum break solo was dope aas fuck!

  • One of the most amazing moments in music I've ever seen/heard.... that's real soul! Is it Ruth who does the lead vocal?

  • No, Anita. Ruth is the tall one with the amazing deeper voice.

  • The video should have full 5 stars rating ... c'mon people? I had original vinyl album this song was on, and now have it on CD also. Love to blast it out my car speakers, people must think I'm nuts, which probably I am when playing this song. (big smile)

  • Great video that drummer kicks ass

  • (sad refers to below comments) ... but the video is great!

  • you twat

  • You're as racist as the people you condemn. If you look at the world as a whole, you'll find people have been assholes to each other for centuries and we all, no matter what color we are, have it coming to us for the things we have done.

  • Work on your own spelling and punctation.

  • sad

  • Big mouths

  • WORD

  • OBAMA((((((Yes we Can Can))))

  • Wow, I love it. This was the first song I remember hearing from the Pointer sisters and after all these years seeing it performed live. I would not want this song used for anybody's political campaign ... would be even worse than commercializing it.

  • I remember them on Sesame sreet them an stevie Wonder.. Lots of Hip acts in the early 70's on that show-- the kids would __ rock out!

  • Nothing like the sistahs!

  • I always loved the Pointer Sisters (fav song Jada). Wouldn't "Yes we can, can" make a great campaign song for Obama?

  • I never before realized how loaded with racial harmony 70's music was. I'm thinking of The Impressions here with My Country, etc. it still resonates today.

  • a sick drum feel on this one here. damn. & a big eff of to the name haters-you'd think people intelligent enough to log on would have better sense than johndeere...whatah8rfk.

  • still missin' you JUNE POINTER !!!

  • First of all the name gaylord is just fine. Second he is (was) my uncle and third he was one of the top drummers of his time. So dont disrespect people like that 8020johndeereseries. People like you is why our country is so screwed up.

  • one of the best drummers ever to be recorded and many all over the world respect him - just read some of the words people of all types have written on here, esp on other pointer sisters videos, people asking who the brilliant drummer is. a name is a name. respect from the UK to this very fine drummer.

  • I know John Deere--sounds pretty redneck

    (((Obama)) YES we Can Can!!!!!!

  • I would hate to be named gaylord

  • i love them so talented great voices and energy ! and live as well

  • Vote for change...Yes we can!! Obama 08!

  • whoever has them singing this song on soul train can you bring it back ....love that ...it was smooth

  • I remember those headphones.

  • they were great b 4 they got of mixed up with white folk, and that sound racist, but richard perry ruined them with that disco crap

  • whenever you say that four grown women who were more than capable of making their own decisions messed up because of someone else, you take their power from them. It is probably truer to say they listen the wrong person, but in the end it was their decision.

So don't blame someone else no matter what their color. People get to make their own decisions.

  • you have never been in the music business i take it ? and you've never been black either or r you one of those uncle tom's that holla's every time the man says so ? the faggot ruined them, in fact he ruined Martha Reeves as well, and Diana Ross didn't fare to well either with him, only Barbra S. got away unscathed, but then she's white and jewish and so is he. ppl should sticl with their own kind until there is eqaulity.

  • why reply to a hater like u ... Pointer sisters ruined u say? maybe you must have missed the decade of the 80s ... they somehow managed to have quite a few major hit songs.

  • The enemy is hate.

  • Perfect. Yes we can. This song is so timeless and The Pointer Sisters tear it up. And that drum solo with a little beat box. I know we can work it out.

  • Love it. I always prefer the studio versions better, but this is pretty decent indeed. Great song. Thanks for posting.

  • Excellent!

  • Do you have/can you post the rest of this segment with the Pointer Sisters????

  • I have always loved the Pointer Sisters!

  • my father was gaylord and he in my mind was the best

  • I guess upright bass, keys, vocal harmony and guitar can't be heard by Celie71's stupid ass! Some comments aren't worth posting stupid!

  • No offense (and It's hardly worth mentioning but i'm a bass player) it's not an upright bass. It's the classic 70's thump of an electric Precision bass. I don't see or hear a guitar either. Amazing 3 piece band.

  • Celie71- You are ignorant.

  • get over urself. it was a joke. some of my best friends are of the brown persuasion. Oh wait a minute! i am too! LOL! some people are so uptight. anywho...i sooo love the pointer sisters. was devastated that one of them passed away. i remember when they were in the movie Car Wash.

  • This isn't 1950 so you can leave your "coloreds" and "sure do" and whatever howdy-doo talk at the door. Some perverts trolling this Internet world and they just need to shut up and get their parents to pay some attention to them cause they sure aren't getting enough of it.

  • Class, talent, style, beauty. What's not to love?

  • Yes We Can Can! GO OBAMA IN 08!!!

  • Great song........good song for any walk of life!

  • Wonder if Obama was listening to them when he was 13. I never heard this one; did like the group; lived in an area with poor radio reception that played mainly what is now called "classic rock". Yes, we can, can. I like it.

  • I agree! Obama's campaign should use this song! Yes We Can!!!

  • This would be perfect for the Obama campaign! YES WE CAN!

  • Question: Which one is leading this song????

  • Anita. the best 1 in my opinion.

  • Anita was the oldest sister and the strongest singer

  • No. Wrong. Anita is the second to eldest.

  • No it goes Ruth b.1946, Anita b.1948, Bonie b.1950 or '51, and June b. 1953...Yourwelcome :)

  • All four of them sistas are hellafied. And June could've rocked the lead on this as well as Anita

  • Barack Obama should use this song as one of his campaign songs.........Yes We Can, Can.

  • Man this sho is funky!!!!!!!!! Damn, is it just me but I think the singers of yesterday we just so much better..These gals really work it, and having seen them from back in the day, they just do it great and look that way at the same time..Remember when good lookin' women would wear a flower in their hair? Wow, thanks for posting this..Brings back a lot of really good memories..

  • man i love the baseline on this song.

  • Great!

  • shit, damn, motherfucker...

  • == WARNING == Ol' Head Statement:

There is something to be said for a group that can harmonize with a band & look good doing it. Ask any of today's girl group's to do this.

    Rock on, Pointers!

  • Great performance from a dynamic group. Wish I knew how to remix songs on youtube because the Pointer Sisters debut hit "Yes We Can Can" is the perfect theme song for Barack Obamas campaign for the Presidency. Hope to hear these dynamic sisters perform it at Obama's inauguration.

  • I agree, I was thinking the same thing. And even to use it now. This song came to me when I thought about Obama and I did a search to find it. Maybe some one with the skills can do it before tueday and send it to them to post. Perfect song...I always loved the Pointer Sisters.

  • So right! I had the privilege this weekend of hearing the song's composer, the great Allen Toussaint, perform it for a rapt audience. It hit me like a thunderbolt that "Yes We Can Can" perfectly captures the positive and unifying message of Sen. Obama's presidential campaign. (By the way, YWCC features prominently in a new documentary called "Young@Heart.") Grassroots supporters, let's spread the word--and the song!

  • I've heard that this song is actually a cover. Allen Toussaint wrote and composed the song with an obscure soul singer Lee Dorsey. He does this song in 2 parts, you can find it on iTunes. I have to say, I'm victim to the funk so I prefer this version, but Lee has some gems of his own worthy of a listen.

  • yes, yes, and yes...

  • and yes

  • Lee Dorsey is only obscure if you are of a certain age...many of us know and remember lee Dorsey as an excellent singer. Not everybody wants or gets to be a star!

  • Now THAT is some funky shit.

  • You said it. They were ALL singing every bit of that song! They've been through a lot, but it looks like Bonnie's back now ...

  • It really is wonderful to see these great performances and hear these songs again! I'm wondering if anyone has the clip of "How Long (Betcha Got A Chick On the Side)" which they performed on the Carol Burnett show just before the Steppin' album was released (circa 1975). On that same show I think they also did the Duke Ellington medley. Would love to see those again!

  • Oh, yes...by all means! I remember the Burnett show well! And, wasn't the "Steppin'" album the same one that featured "Save the Bones for Henry Jones"?

  • I had the privildge of seeing Gaylord Birch playing in Chattanooga on the Cold Blood "Thriller" tour in 1972..at the time he was the best drummer I had ever seen...omg he was tight. Great tone. RIP and hats off..

  • This is performing. You cant even tell there is a audience and they still gave it 110%. God bless the Pointer Sisters and Gaylord Birch

  • This is funky drumming..listen..and shut up!

  • THIS IS THE POINTER SISTERS !!!! Mr. Birch keeping it tight, and no where is Richard Perry in sight

thank you jesus for that brief period when it was the pointers without Perry

  • Gaylord was an awesome drummer and awesome person, a real gentleman, i got to know him in the 80's and he also played with Santana, Jerry Garcia, and then wanted to become a master at jazz and started playing with all the top jazz musicians in the bay area.. it was so sad, he died too early of cancer...

  • These chicks are bad ... they can sing anything! I miss June!

  • John Loughman, thank you for making my world a funkier place...Gaylord Birch...bad ass

  • The Drummer is Gaylord Birch my uncle who passed in 96. Miss you Uncle Gaylord

  • These girls are the real deal. Love the guy clapping at the end.

  • tsk..tsk..tsk...People don't know good music still. Shame...the Pointers were in the music business for so long since the early 70s. At least, give the girls credit. They could sing for sure and not be trashy like today's music.

  • bom da dee bom bom yeah!!! Lovin' it, Didn't realise there was 4 of them at one time???

  • love these gals, thanks for posting this.

  • good grief, you cant beat the 70s music man, the pointer sisters were and still is one of my favourite groups from the 70s and 80s, they are astounding. the whole band was so together. the drummer Gaylord Birch was so fun to watch and impressive, in addition to his work with the pointer sisters, i love his drum grooves on the Santana album ( festival ) from 1977, just fun and modern for its time. thanks for the clip.

  • the Drummer is or should i say was my uncle. He passed in 1996. He gave me my first pair of drum sticks

  • the sisters at their best.

  • LOVE this song; always been a fan or theirs. Thanks for posting it! (Great lyrics, especially for today's world..)

  • goosebumps

  • find it odd that i listen to black/death metal and still quite appreciate this lol (: lots of techic on the drummer (: smooth voices ^_^ ah, well, started to like softer music after getting together with my gf, wonder if it has any connection? :O

    ah, well, great upload :)!

  • wonderful I remember their first appearance on the 'Helen Ready' show, Bonnie wanted something for herself, but her solo Career fizzled out, there was bad feeling between Bonnie and Ruth and Anita, she wasnt even allowed to sit in the familys Limousine at June's funeral

  • how did u find tht out

  • THE R JAMMIN

  • ESTUVE BUSCANDO UNA CANCION QUE DICE EN LA LETRA "ELLAS TRABAJAN POR EL DINERO" (EN INGLES.

y si alguien sabe quien canta SOMETHIN GO, es una canciòn de los 70, una amiga me dijo que era de WE ALL TOGETHER, pero no la he encontrado. mil gracias

  • It seems strange that Bonnie Pointer would never returned even when her solo career fizzled out. She surely could have step in after June passed. I wonder is their hard feeling between them after she left the group
