I lived in East Africa (Zanzibar) for a while and had an amazing experience with a fruit bat. I was avoiding the mid-day sun in my kibanda ( beach hut made of makuti leaves and bamboo), and a fruit bat came in and perched from one of the beams for five minutes I'll never forget.
