  • damn it i wish i was aloud to upload my high schools production of this.....

out witch had so much anger

  • The choreography is kinda weird.

  • Your Fault is kinda choppy and slow but their vocals are very good, especially the Witch

  • The scream is supposed to be her screaming splat. Other wise, the lyric becomes, "Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch. And the gloom, and the doom, and the boom AHHHHH." Not really the dramatic effect that was intended.

  • The actual vocals were pretty good, but tempo and energy is key to convey the tension and anxiety Sondheim had intended for "Your Fault". This one had neither. And, while she sounds nice, I'm not sure if the witch really understands what she's saying in "Last Midnight"... She just doesn't have the right emotions shining through: vocally or physically.

  • Well..I don't understand why their all wearing old time village clothing and the Witch is wearing a sleeveless moderntime dress. I mean She could at least have a cloak?

I also agree with the lack of Tempo and energy.

I mean is it sad that my High School is doing this show and we are much much better? I will agree I liked the Witches voice but thats it..

  • The funny thing is that Little Red Riding Hood was the one who was quickest to place the blame, and yet she freaked out the most when they blamed her.

  • tempo?

  • I've seen better highschool productions...

  • Agh...I had to stop listening as soon as the witch started singing. The pace and tempo are just all off (especially since I was JUST listening to the Bernedette Peters version), and there's no urgency.

  • this version is decent, but for this song to be as good as it can be, it needs to be faster. it kills the song at this speed

  • what is Cinderella wearing?

  • We just did this at my high school, and we took these songs a lot faster... Really good other than that

  • my school just did this and i think we did it better. Sadly. But this was still a good version

  • Why are they just standing around..?

  • so my highschool just did this i was in it .. and they did your fault at the speed that we FIRST did it to learn it ..... and the witch ...has a beautiful voice but ... she just doesnt have the anger

  • i agree with hillparkjess, her voice is very pretty but it seems shes forgetting or not knowing exactly what her words mean.

  • they all sound amazing but none of them had energy.....they need 2 b in the story a bit more.

  • The Baker and Witch both had a good voice, but they all seemed like they had trouble with the song's rhythm

  • eww

  • Can't compare to the original Broadway cast. The Witch was alright. The other four should keep in mind that McDonald's is still hiring but unfortunately they can't stand around on the job there either.

    I love you.

    Best comment EVER.

  • im sorry im sure this is good but im stuck on the original broadway production and i dont think anyone should be allowd to redo it because its a discrace to remeake a song of bernadette peters there is no way anyone could ven come close to comparing to her performance good voice though

  • She was good but if we never allowed anyone to remake it then that would be horrible; the theatre is full of different renditions of characters that makes it so beautiful

  • i think it was pretty good but your fault was really slow.

  • there's not much in the set.

  • Okay, now to sum up everything now that I've actually watched it all. Gah, internet is slow... -_- Lol.

Anyway, yeah, Baker is eh...just the nature of his voice. Um, the Witch has a GREAT voice, just too much action, some of it illegit and unnecessary (like the sack being thrown was weird). And the others need a little less standing and a little MORE action.

Last Midnight was taken at a perfect tempo though! But the scream was kinda lame. But she's winded. I know. I really liked the Witch. =D

  • when she sings last midnight the guys shouldnt have there backs to the audience

  • It's actually really okay. It is the Witch's song after all, and the attention is on her. It would look akward if they were the other way too, cuz their reaction to this song is to be looked down upon. It's very satirical, and the Baker, Little Red, Jack, and Cinderella need to be that way because it's more natural for the audience.

    You get me?? =]

  • there's like no action

  • I think the slowness makes the banter easier to get through... that song's pretty murder.

  • im sorry.. but this was bad.

  • Yeah. Definitley. "Your Fault" is not supposed to be slow. It's supposed to be a very fast-paced song. The baker was bad too.

  • Oy vey, it;s so slow! But, I think "Last Midngiht" was well done.

  • i agree with the pace

    but the witch was great

its okay to sing nice lol

but yeah her non verbals could be better thats all :)

  • i agree it needs to be sped up. it's supposed to be like ASDGADUSGAHDFGADURG%^#%^&%^&$

  • this song is too big for her. she sounds winded. she doesn't have the right idea of the character.

  • NO!!!!

iF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST, YOU ARE LOST!

Lol, just wanted to say that Last Midnight is a huge amount of energy. We're doing it at school. Our Witch gets tired, Bernadette Peters (OBC) gets tired, they ALL get tired!

But yes, Your Fault is painfully slow. We've been through that at a few rehearsals, lol.

xD ...Now to actually watch this.

  • This is pretty heinous

  • Ahhhh!! Speed it up speed it up! This needs to be chaos

  • i think they could have done something more active with the blocking in the first part. the music moves, and so should the people.(just a thought, no offense, anyone agree?)

  • "your fault" is so slow!

    im just saying

  • this witch is trying to hard to sing pretty. its not supposed to be pretty. its supposed to be rough and angry. this witch is great dont get me wrong. but she's not the best.

  • I was in a production of into the woods and not to brag but they suck

  • now, theres no need to insult anyone's performance. especially an amateur performance (not a slam on quality, but unless it is a paid performance, it is considered amateur and college, i beleive is still amateur.)

  • agreed, tempo should be faster and people should be moving around more--it's way to stationary.

i wish the witch had a cape, and was a more believable wicked...nice voice though

  • Sondheim's alma mater really needs to do his artistic vision justice and pick-up the effin tempo.

That said, I saw a production of WOODS at Williams about a decade ago by their "Cap and Bells" company and it was simply awful with their gender-bending witch who was portrayed by some guy. So perhaps this is a step-up.

  • Lucille Ball Little Theatre in Jamestown, NY just announced that they will be adding Into the Woods to their 2009-2009 season.

Is there anyone out there that has played the part of the witch that could share any comments with me? I think that I would really like to audition for the witch, but I do not have any professional voice training.

  • witch awesome voice but no action. i play this part and im practically running around stage at everyone during "last midnight."

  • you need 2 do it faster and show more emotion im jack in the play and me and every1 else is running around blaming ppl its like our favorite song 2 do

  • wow way to slow!

  • Yeah. I agree. I was in this show a couple of years ago and we did this song soooooooooooooooooo much faster

  • really where and who did u play

  • It was in a children's community theatre in North Carolina. I played Jack. Which is kind of cool seeing as how that's my actual name. lol. Were you in it or did you just see it?

  • i just saw it when it came to my town once but i would LOVE to be in it

  • Wow. Was it a professional version?

  • i agree with that person the tempo is too slow but the jack sounds ALOT like the real one in the production! the bakers voice is kinda low though for the actual baker....still awesome!

  • wow tempo down alot bad

  • too bad you made the song way too slow

  • i think the way this witch did last midnight wasn't that intense. i always saw it as her losing her mind, going crazy, having a mental break down. I always thought she was not really talking to them but more to herself about how her life had been, and this witch really to me wasn't intense enough.

your fault needed to be WAY faster, i think they might have slowed it down for people to understand.

  • One of my favorite parts of "Last Midnight" is the huge belt factor at the end. This just didn't have that at all.

  • The point of this song is to be really wordy. IT NEEDS THE SPEED! They probably had trouble understanding them when they went fast but that is a skill you need to learn. You need to learn how to use diction and sing fast...The set and blocking was...well it stunk...I think even if you didn't have a set you could make to movement better. This song needs a lot more to it.

  • As it has been stated, "Your Fault" is far too slow. I've seen high school performances of "Your Fault" that are faster and sound better than that of this college. The staging of both songs is completely unimpressive, with everyone just standing there. As another note, the timing of the Witch's throwing of the beans is off time musically.

  • Ok that needed to be so much faster. It's difficult to sing and play but if you're working with a talented group it isn't exactly a stretch. On top of that what was with the staging? There really wasn't anything going on. Very anti-climactic ending too. Honestly an explosion, fog, strobe light ANYTHING would be better than just... a blackout.

  • yea i think the voices were ok but it REALLY needed to be faster. i mean if they memorized it they should have been able to speed it uo anyways.

  • This... really needs to be much faster. I appreciate the fact that this would be a very hard song to do quickly, but if it's going to be slowed down, the dynamics need to be much bigger. This was good... for amatures(sp)...

  • to tell you the truth, it wasn't good.

  • At this point in the play, everyone is supposed to be panicking. This slow tempo completely makes the song lose its paranoid mood. Good singers, sure, but the song obviously isn't about singing--they actors on any of the three cast recordings are speaking/shouting many of the lines.

    Last Midnight is good, though.

  • ummm i can see why it needs to be slow but i'm falling asleep here good vocals

but what was the director thinking with the blocking?

  • Lethargic. With an upbeat song such as "Your Fault", albeit slowed down, it needs a LOT of movement. The actors aren't really doing anything but standing there. Visually unappealing. Nice singing. I like the witch's voice. Red's is a little sharp, I think.

It's a hard play to pull off, but it can definitely be done better than this. The set is boring too. Maybe I'm just spoiled to the original Broadway version :P

  • Hm. Kind of... wooden. Lacking energy. And tempo. Good singers, though.

  • I was Jack in this play

  • Oops, not in this production, but in another one, just to be clear.

  • I'm sorry, but this wasn't really all that great. I was in a high school production of this and it was much better... and we kept the music to the original. There were some mess-ups and I didn't really believe the characters... they were just singing and moving kinda like robots in the sense that nothing was really natural.

  • that was awesome XD

  • I really liked it!! Yes it is a little bit slowed down but overall its still done very nicely!!

  • I like last midnight! (your fault is also verry good) It's only to bad that the song is slowed down...

  • I'm not a big fan of how slow this tempo is for 'Your Fault'

  • i love this show... great vocals... too bad the song is slowed down - it loses some of its insanity that way.

  • Who ever plaed the witch has a nice voice- well everyone actually had a nice voice

  • I played Little Red Riding Hood in our performance of Into The Woods and can therefore tell that this is immensely slowed down. You could have been tighter between cues and been sharper saying the words. I agree with LukeWehner, the staging of Last Midnight just does not work.

You Fault is a hard song to perform, I know that just as much as anyone else. With a lot of work on it though, it can be a really cool song and easy to do quickly.

  • The Witch just isn't up to it, and the staging of last midnight isn't working...

  • i agree totallyy

  • You guys could have used a little more practice. Over all, very good characterizations, but for Sondheim you all needed a bit more music rehearsal!

  • Oh god I love to sing this song.. It seems a bit slower than usual, and the Witch is a bit harder to hear when she sings the higher notes, but beautiful job none the less!

    <3

  • lol...its slowed down

  • i love this song
