Tracks 6 (Always Malaise) and 10 (The Undoing) are the darkest on that album and in my opinion the most beautiful and emotional. Great work - thx Interpol!
this song is ok, I don't think its better than older songs like "Say hello to the angels", or anything from Antics. Lots of the new stuff has a build up that is just too slow for my taste.
Out of all the tracks on s/t Malaise was the one that took the longest to click for me but when Sam's drumming kicks in at around 3.01 that was it perfection...They have to play this live at some point if for no other reason than to hear Sam tearing it apart
This song sounds like it was made for like a haunted mansion mystery movie trailer.. Especially the end.. Amazing song saw these guy twice this California tour this month and October 10, freaking amazing some of the best concerts i've ever been to other then the strokes and the Walkmen.
I love the ending, it really is magical. It begins so bleak and desperate but then the hopeful line at the end 'I want to shine all day' is just wonderful. The music is perfectly structured as always. This one took a while to grow on me but it's more than worth the effort. So many gorgeous layers in one song....
@AtlantistoInterzone agree on every word. Multilayered exotic sadness. too suffocating in parts on this album. But their sound is idealistic and it continues that way
this is one of the best songs of the album....but for me...i think that summer well is the best by far...success, barricade, summer well, memory serves, always malaise (the man i am), lights, try it on...they're all great!!! : )
Interpol has stolen my heart, cus I'm in love with their music. Each song is a juxtaposed piece of art, each part of every song is so beautifully put together...
All that you've known Be as it may All that you've shown Reaching and tried all day (Coming out of the ways) Wanna try all day (Appearing out of the shade) All that I know Is you'll be okay Follow your soul And it tells you to fly away (Coming out of the ways) I wanna fly all day (Appearing out of the shade) All that you've known Be as it may All that you've shown Reach in and tried all day (Coming out of the ways) I wanna shine all day (Appearing out of the shade)
Always Always, release me lover I want to give you the face to face Always I want to live some more I relax in a certain way I control what I can That's the man I am (Appearing out of the shade) Ow Well it pains me to say And I do what I can (Coming out of the ways) That's the man I am (Appearing out of the shade) That's the man I am Coming out of the ways Appearing out of the shade
Always, you need me lover For all ways, release me lover I want to give you the lowdown I want to give you the face to face Always, is all I can give Isn't quite what you take me for I will act in a certain way I control what I can That's the man I am But it pains me to say That I do what I can That's the man I am (Appearing out of the shade)
Their albums tend to get better after each listen. That's what makes Interpol so great. I started off listening to just two songs on repeat and now it's expanded to four or five tracks. However, I'm not a fan of what they've done to Paul's voice. =\
@francbecerra I agree. I prefer Paul's older vocals. However, what's ironic is that live he still can sound like he used to, even on these new songs or older songs so I'm not sure if he's just prefers this sound.

This album is a masterpiece. It's a grower and, I guess, it's not for the casual music fan as it's not something most can just pick up and understand off the bat. One thing I've noticed about this album that separates it from their other albums is the amount of juxtaposition. A lot going on in each song but it's pieced together so well, and so subtly, that it works beautifully. They've done a fantastic job on this.
@TheJaniejane Same here. At first I would just listen to certain songs, then I'd expand on it . . . took me a few months to realize what they really made. It's a perfect album. It will be hard for some people to put the time into though.
I swear this is the most bizarre experience I've had trying to get into an album.
It's like, I can't stop listening to the thing, it's like crack, but I've listened to it all the way through 3 times after buying it yesterday at 4 oclock and parts of it in addition to that and so far it's made me fall asleep twice but It's so damn addicting at the same time...... I don't think an albums done this before, What the hell?
@d3p3ch3mod3 I'm having almost exactly the same experience. The difference being: It didn't surprise me. Same thing happened with the first two albums. I expect the album to stay happily on repeat for somewhere in between of a week and two months. ♥
It is so strange hearing all these mixed reviews. I happen to be obsessed with the entire album already. I guess you guys haven't listened to it enough. It gets better every time I hear it! : )
@scatzercoman Depends on what you mean by boring. The whole song is beautiful I reckon.. Yes, it's really dark, but that's what I actually prefer. Personally I prefer the beginning :)

I LOVE Interpol, but I`m not brainwashed. I think this song is weak, Paul sounds too butthurt and annoying in this song. I prefer "All of the Ways"
