It is utter genius of you to combine Ravel and Raskin! both pieces do indeed have an affinity for each other--what a great creative idea!! Thank you so much!
Oh could you please tell me how to get this music? I would love to put this on my iPod! I adore this type of music! please tell me where you got this breathtaking piece.
Loved the film and the song. I am "spoiled" by hearing the Charlie Parker rendition. No matter how good the original was Bird added a whole other level of beauty.
The theater posters, in my opinion are cheesy, cheap art that is supposed to appear "sensational" but is really nowhere near as visually intriguing as the stills which make up the bulk of the video.
How embarrassing - of COURSE it's Ravel - I'm ashamed and though I'm sure puritans would gas, Debussy and Ravel often get mixed up as they have a lot in common. Thank you for getting back to me about it - I still think that it's VERY clever of you!
@suzyqplacet Don't shame yourself, no !!! At first time, I thunk too the elements was " Claude Debussy " . But them I saw the comment of someone about Maurice Ravel's piece . The fauno and the silfide's affair. It's good to be near who knows better than me.
The main theme from 'Laura' with some stills from the movies, music composed by my teacher at UCLA David Raksin; who had a great influence on me, RIP David, you are sorely missed...Combined with elements of Maurice Ravel's 'Daphne et Chloe'....two master orchestrators combined in elegance in perpetuity.....with love, your student, Rhondda Nunes
No, actually, it is not a copy. This particular rendition of it, however, combines the two. If you heard the original version of the film score you would know this; sorry, I forgot to include this information in the description bar.
Que peliculas las de antes, en blanco y negro, que calidad y yo la recuerdo desde muy niño la musica y a esa linda mujer que se convirtio en mi amor platónico. Gracias oldmoviemusic
The time of unforgettable american contributions to culture and art... I must admit, that - even with the distance from europe - I cannot help me but to gnsback's comment sad but true. Would these masterpieces be more popular, or at least better known, around here in europe, it would be the deathblow to any form of antiamerican culture-chauvinism.
Does this sound like Ravel's "Daphnis And Chloe" to anyone else? lol It's still beautiful music. It well deserves its place on the AFI top ten scores of all time!
The opening is a straight quote from "Daphnis and Chloe" by Maurice Ravel. Raksin's own melody emerges subtly from this opening. A beautiful piece of work by both composers!
I don't know about CD, but you can get the mp3 from a site called SadSteve....just type in 'theme from laura' at the top, or 'david raksin laura' etc, and you should find this mp3, which you can then downlaod...(it'll make more sense when you're on the site)...If you have any problems, just post another comment with your question! :)
Watch themovie, "Somewhere in Tine" with Jane Seymour if you want a similar theme of the man falling in love with the image of the woman. Much sadder than this, but beautful music and beautiful movie.
This is terrific music! This particular arrangement is very special since the theme song is cleverly meshed with the classical tune "Levé du Jour" by Ravel.
The music was beautiful. The actor Dana Andrews had a brother who used to be the principal of my high school years ago. I guess that I need to see this movie too.

Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney are both divine in this film. It doesn't get much better than "Laura" as far as classic films are concerned. I love it!

A little Debussy never did any harm but at least give him credit, no? If you did this mix yourself it's absolutely brilliant though.

@suzyqplacet
This is actually mixed with Maurice Ravel's piece Daphnis e Chloe, not Debussy. But thank you.

I think one of the most beautifull tunes of all time.
A real classic and will still be around around for a 1000 years..
Real class never goes out of style....

Sends a chill up the spine every time it breaks into the main theme. Reminds me of a wave swelling up and crashing on to a beach. Remarkable.
