The reason that Sam prefers brunettes now is that Jessica was blonde, and they remind him of her. It was either Kripke or Sera Gamble who said so.

i think the show in general is, and tries to stay original, its refreshing to see some heroines, or rather main, strong, female characters that arent just blonde one dimensional characters (not saying all blondes are airheads, most girls in my family are blonde either naturally or chemically, but rather that a weak love interest tends to be blonde)
