"Phystar beleve's that no Operating System should be exclusive to an elite demographic" The problem with that is you can not licence Mac OS X, The Hardware is the licence and Phystar broke that, Crappy support and crappy hardware, Did you update it ... oh snap it no longer works.
Phystar put their noses into Apples Business and got their arse handed to them, If you can not afford a Mac Get a windows machine, Windows 7 is very good, But now their gone, who are you going to go to for support?
@JBLanteigne How do you stop someone from maintaining tight control on the things they make and sell? (I assume that's the definition of "monopoly" that you're using).
Yeah that's pretty much what I meant by monopoly.
By today's standard, I'm not surprised that Apple wins but if you took the same situation with bread and toasters (bread being the OS and the toaster being the hardware) no way that radical means like apple's behaviour would stand. (You can't use our bread unless you use it in our toasters) Because os x works on any pc as well as any bread slice work in any toasters.
Yeah. Apple is a total monopoly with less than 10% of the computing market. The iPhone is the top selling cell phone in the US, with only 3% share of the market. With the iPod, however, Apple does have a monopolistic share of the market at well over 70%. Yet this dominance was despite the iPod being one of the most expensive MP3 players on the market, late to the game, and Apple couldn't even use any existing influence as leverage.
funny thing about apple is that they want to be able to run windows on a mac with bootcamp, but not run os x on a pc. they just want to get the money from systems they make that way they control the whole thing pc people don't care about mac hardware we just want the software.
Amazing prices for a computer running OS X along with customer support. But i highly doubt they would win the case cos Apple's Software Licensing Agreement (SLA) quite clearly states that the user cannot modify the software to run on a non-Apple system. Id personally stick with the company that made the software to make my hardware. its good apple is letting people upgrade some aspects of their computers. the iMac has extra ram and hard-drive slots under the chin of the computer
They didn't. They just got a Summary Judgement in California saying what they did was illegal and against the DMCA. They're about to get shafted by the full weight of the legal system and Apple's lawyers.
I've had nothing but solid performance from my machine, and Psystar has been very helpful when I've had questions. I have multiple friends who have had bad experiences with Apple. Psystar, in my experience, rocks!
Psystar is a fucking cheap as company. If they do win there court case then more and more companies will start building computers that run Mac OS X and no one will buy from Apple therefore apple will loose TONS and TONS of money and all the different computer hardware will create tons of problems. People will blame Apple for these problems. Turning Apple into another Microsoft, or a Failed Microsoft. Apple is a hardware company NOT a software company like MIcrosoft.
Dude, STFU you fanboy. People are tired of paying a premium because it has an Apple logo and being ripped off. Apple makes their money off of hardware, not software. The same hardware that costs significantly less than what they charge us, the consumers.
Hahaha no im not. Because i dont like the fact that Psystar is illegaly selling systems with Mac OS X on it ? If you dont Want to pay more for mac os x, then DONT.
If you want to use their OS so much then pony up the money they ask for it, otherwise stop complaining. You don't get "the same hardware", you get better. It's engineerd better and designed specifically for the machine at hand apart from the CPU and stuff. The motherboard, venting, airflow, PSU's and so on are all designed by Apple for each machine so they work as well as they possibly can. When other companies try to match their build quality they fail at price and cost more than a Mac, like HP
Question: Have you ever used a Hackintosh/Psystar machine?
Secondly, you sound like you've never built a computer in your life with the argument of motherboard, venting, airflow, etc. I can build nearly the exact same machine, if not better. Who gives a shit about HP, Dell or any other company. Custom machines are the best available option and I guarantee I could make a better computer running OS X with faster specs.
"When other companies try to match their build quality they fail at price and cost more than a Mac, like HP"
If you're referring to the HP Envy 15, I hope you'll find that it has far better specifications than the entry level 15" MBP you seem to be comparing it to.
The i7 720QM is easily comparable to the T9900 upgrade due to turbo mode and of course, the greater number of cores.
And the Radeon 4830 kills both the 9400 and 9600M GTs.

Psystar just lost their case against apple...
looks like people are still too dumb to do anything to stop apple's monopoly..
apple has to be the most ironic company ever, take a look at their ad in 1984 and what they're doing today...

No, you could not be more wrong. All components are generic like HP or Dell, just because Apple CLAIM it to be better does not make it so...
If I wanted quality components I'd pick them from companies like Asus or EVGA for a Hackintosh.
