I'm pretty sure Buffy the movie wasn't an instant hit... it sucked. I'm not trying to diss Joss because I absolutely love him, but he said himself he was so disappointed about the way it turned out. Besides, you could tell the actors didn't treat it seriously. It was awful. The series, however... AMAZING.
This whole video is 5min, 24 seconds long and yet the intro is 35 seconds. How about tightening up that intro into a more web-friendly 20 seconds? On another note, nice job getting Joss on this one! He is awesome.
@flicklefish The 5 min, 24 second video you watched is actually a promo trailer for the one hour interview I did with Joss. f you'd like to see the whole interview you can find it at thewriteenvironment website
Yes and no. While the dolls themselves reset, I think the interesting parts of the story will come from the supporting staff as well as the story arc about the dolls recollecting their past engagements.
Topher, DeWitt, Boyd, Dr. Saunders and to a much lesser extent Ballard are the characters that won't be reseting every week.
I don't think he ment the "resent button" from Dollhouse, he meant "reset shows." Those shows where everything is back to normal in the end of every episode, and theres no real continuation story. Like some sit-coms for example :) Dollhouse has a overlaying storyline, since she's trying to find her identity.
omg that book in the background that says "WEAPONS"...
I think a friend of mine actually had that book! It's actually really helpful for people who run RPG campaigns cause it's got a huge history of historical melee weapons from around the world.
I actually thought of that book a lot when I watched Buffy cause the melee weapons they used I'd already seen in that book before. :D
I agree with Joss, don't get me wrong, I love sit coms such as "Cheers", "How I Met Your Mother", and "Friends". However, the reason I think Joss' series along with series' like "Smallville" and other seralized television connects with people is because it is about human experience, learning, growth, and change. If television series were turned into audiobooks for Microsoft Zunes and Apple iPods. Sitcoms would be listed as memoirs. And seralized TV would be listed under fiction/non-fiction.
Joss always inspires me with his take on the creative process. Dollhouse hasn't been shown here in Oz yet, may have to resort to more nefarious ways to get it...

Me too, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life like a lot of sixteen, seventeen year olds do. I'm still not completely sure. But I do know I want to work in television. And create my own television series. If I do that my dream will come true.

I think a buffy movie or spike spin off would be successfull spike is by far one of the more popular and interesting characters in the series.

it is strange when you think that joss hates the reset button, but that is what the whole concept of dollhouse essentially is..
evesapple 2 years ago
I think it's a common trope that you take what you most hate, and try to work through it, and somehow overcome it.

Joss Whedon is the Master of Character Development. He's rigt characters should grow and change and learn over time like normal people.

Joss Whedon, the man who made me want to be a filmmaker. Great video, and great insight into Joss, my biggest idol. Can't wait for more.
